Appearance

The Exotide is a tetrapodal-like creature with heavy fish-based elements, specifically from the flying fish in terms of ray-fish fin structures (with a homocercal, forked caudal fin; one well-developed pair of pectoral fins which work as wings; a smaller but developed pair of ventral fins; and two pairs of dorsal fins, with the first covering the "neck"), and the swordfish, in terms of a long, pointed bill. Additionally, it presents two pairs of axolotl-gill-like lobes stemming from the sides of the head, which seem to compliment the seven pairs of gills on its neck used for breathing; a second dorsal fin stemming from the same point as the ventral fins, being divided into three peduncules similar to the gill lobes mentioned previously; and a front pelvic fin partially mirroring the first dorsal fin. Unlike real-life swordfish, their bill is not flat, but slightly curved upwards, and seems to develop into some sort of helmet with additional, smaller and curved blades.

Exotide has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Spite (0.50)
Spite is an active ability that increases a user's next attack damage based on its power meter, which gradually fills once the ability is triggered and then drains to 0 if no creature is attacked by the user during this time. It also has a customizable percentage (%) of the creature's damage (the % listed is the max of said creature's Spite power). Alongside raw damage, the user inflicts double ailments on their targets. The ability has a 20-second cooldown that starts upon activation.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Bleed Attack (3.5)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.4)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Charge (Gore)
Charge is a passive ability that gradually fills an orange "Charge" bar (unique to creatures with this ability) while running. Once completely full, clicking (Lmb on PC or on Mobile or RT on Xbox) will apply special effects on a creature the user is hitting. If the bar is not full, charge effects may be reduced or non-existent. Current Charge types:
Diver (6)
Diver is a passive ability that grants the user the ability to temporarily keep flying underwater for a short period of time while retaining their diving speed. The exact period of time varies per creature.
First Strike (0.25)
First Strike is a passive ability that grants the user increased damage while they are above 75% health. The damage increase is depends on the creature and is reflected in its stat menu.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Behavior

  • Despite their rough and mean look, the Exotide are quite social animals and enjoy the company of their own species, even showing self-sacrificing behaviors when it comes to their loved ones.
  • Exotide have a similar intelligence level to real life dolphins and other high intelligence species, being able to experience fun and play with things like that of a dog playing with a chew toy or picking up specific things and dropping them onto creatures for fun.
  • The Exotide species is mainly made up of females who are dominant in both hierarchy and hunting.

Trivia

  • Concept by dew_theangeldragon in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by flying fish and swordfish. Exotide's name is a portmanteau of the words "exoskeleton" and "tide".[1] Lore-wise, their ancestors used to be sea-floor dwellers that would feast upon algae and kelp but due to large amounts of sea predators hunting them into lower number they had ended up striving to evolve onto land, sooner or later evolving into Exotide's current state.
  • Animations by BlckBrryJam and Rook.
  • Recode Exotide can bounce on the water when gliding into it, as can a few other semi-aquatic gliders such as Gobli. It is unknown if this is intentional.
