Appearance

The Glovaucus is a quadrupedal creature with four main flipper-like appendages, the front of the two being larger than its hind flippers. Its body closely resembles that of a Blue Glaucus, having its overall shape as well as the creature's finned appendages. The Glovaucus's tail also has a finned end, resembling the aforementioned Blue Glaucus. More fin-like frills are present on its body, most noticeably in a set of three on both sides of its head. On top of its head, Glovaucus bears two sharp, triangular protrusions with thin, floating crystals behind them. On its head the Glovaucus has a row of spikes on each side, the same spikes being seen on its underside, below its neck, on its back and on the ridges of its wings. Its default palette consists of vibrant shades of orange and yellow, accompanied with darker brown and purples.

Abilities

Change Weather

Change Weather is an active ability that forces any current weather to change to a new type, including Thunderstorms. If a natural disaster is already happening, the ability cannot be activated. It can also "appear" to change the day/night cycle (in fact, it really doesn't) if it happens to be night and the ability triggers sunny weather. The ability cannot change a weather immediately after another Change Weather invocation. It can only be used by creatures with age 67 or higher and has a 600 second (10 minute) cooldown.

Harden

Harden is an active ability which decreases movement speed by 20% in trade of a 35% increase in weight and 25% increase in health regeneration. Does not affect turning rate or turning speed.

Agile Swimmer

Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.

Bleed Attack (3)

Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Block Burn (0.60)

Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.

Defensive Burn (3)

Burn touch/Defensive burn is an ability that deals burn to the opposing creature when being bitten. Stacks with itself.

Diver (2)

Diver is a passive ability that grants the user the ability to temporarily keep flying underwater for a short period of time while retaining their diving speed. The exact period of time varies per creature.

Volcanic

Volcanic is a passive ability that grants users the ability to walk in lava without getting hurt or suffering status debuffs. During Famine and Drought, it additionally grants a 50% health regeneration boost and 25% thirst and hunger rate reduction. Volcanic does not protect a creature from Shadow Isle's corrupted lava.

Behavior

Glovaucus are very aggressive towards others that are not from their species.
They prefer to swim in lava and hot springs instead of in actual water. They hunt in packs of 3.
Females of this species are known as "material gworls", as they like shiny things and will hunt creatures if they have anything shiny like crystals and gold.
Their favorite prey is Galeostra; they favor hunting them because they believe Galeostras to be inferior to them.
When a Glovaucus eats a fruit they fall asleep immediately for some reason.
They like to bully Minawiis as they love the effect of Necro Poison.

Lore (non-canon)

It is believed that these creatures are the ones responsible for volcanic eruptions, along with fire and death in Sonaria.

Trivia

Concept by Luciealthedemon in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by the blue glaucus and volcanoes. Alongside the Zwevealisk and Galeostra, Glovaucus is one of three creatures inspired by the blue glaucus. As stated by LuciealTheDemon, "this creature had to be redesigned and adjusted almost 8 times before it was accepted". Also stated by Luciealthedemon, "before the redesign their original name was Moladius! to the point we started calling him Chadius as a meme".
