Appearance

Veraiatrice is a bipedal avian creature with a very chicken-like appearance. It sports a large comb that has protruding shapes that are similar to Aloe vera, along with other similarly-shaped adornments along the tail and wings. Most of the Veraiatrice's body color is green, with that shade fading into a lighter mint color, and then to white. Some parts of the body is black, such as the wing bow; the comb, tail feathers, and wing feathers are laced with black. There are bright orange and red colors on the end of the tail and surrounding it, and the outer parts of the comb between the main points. The Veraiatrice has a sharp, curved beak and a face that is slightly horizontal in shape. Veraiatrice has large legs that are covered in feathers, as well as claws and a spur on each foot. The tongue is split in two, similar to a snake's forked tongue.

Abilities

Burrower (1)
Burrower is an active ability that allows the user to place up to 4 (or a specific creature limit) burrows anywhere on the map and use burrows created by other players. If a user places more entrances than the maximum allowed, the oldest burrow and exit will be replaced. A user cannot place a burrow entrance inside its own burrow or inside someone else's burrow. There is a 3 second cooldown between entering and exiting burrows, excluding entering a burrow after its initial placement.
Heal Aura (2.5)
Heal Aura is a toggleable active ability that performs a total % HP healing to creatures in a 175 stud range from the user, excluding the user itself. The raw amount of HP healed is different according to the creature. It has a 5-second cooldown after being toggled on but can be deactivated at any time. While active, the user emits a large green plus sign that fades in and out, and all nearby creatures will have positive healing numbers.
Thorn Trap
Thorn Trap is an active ability that allows the user to drop a trap of thorny plant growth. When a creature triggers a trap, it disappears, and they receive six stacks of Bleed/Bleed Status and two stacks of FREEZE, which temporarily immobilize the target's actions. It has a 35-second cooldown. Up to 3 thorn traps thorn traps can be placed by the same creature. If more than 3 thorn traps are placed at one time, the oldest one will despawn.
Block Bleed (1.00)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Broodwatcher
Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows users to assist in the gestation of other players' eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
Burn Attack (-4)
Burn Attack is an ability that offensively deals burn when biting. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Defensive Bleed (5)
Defensive Bleed is a passive ability where the user defensively inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on their attacker upon being bitten.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.
Pack Healer
Pack Healer is a pack-oriented passive ability. This passive ability allows the user to boost the HP regen of their fellow packmates.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery is a passive ability that boosts HP regeneration when the user's health is below 40%. The lower the health, the higher the HP regeneration boost.
Serrated Teeth
Serrated Teeth is a passive ability that offensively inflicts Deep Wounds status when biting.
Soft Landing (0.75)
Soft Landing is a passive ability that allows the user to fall more slowly, depending on each creature's specific stat number. It works when walking off cliffs/falling, detaching, darting, or jumping. It is cancellable by pressing (Space on PC or or B on Xbox).

Behavior

  • Veraiatrice have mostly chicken-like movements, and they use the spur on the back of each leg to attack for defense, similar to a chicken when they flog.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Veraiatrice naturally emit an earthy and garlicky aroma. This aroma is used to track individuals of their own species and deter other creatures from eating them.
  • The serrated leaves on the Veraiatrice's comb and tail can be cut and consumed. The taste of the leaves are bitter, though the gel inside of the leaves are used to heal burns and rashes. Veraiatrice can regenerate their leaves over time if they are cut.

Trivia

  • Concept by MacRenee in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by Aloe vera, "fowlatrice", chickens, harpy eagles, and prairie-chickens. MacRenee stated that they hoped that Veraiatrice would have northern bobwhite calls, although Veraiatrice instead got Puffwump calls.
  • Modeled by nekcihc (Fizzyton).
  • Animated by Mukudori and KaidaLynch. Most of the animations were inspired by chicken behavior, but the cower animation was inspired by the dance of a male greater prairie-chicken.
  • The Veraiatrice was originally going to be called 'Cinnatrisu' in an early concept and have a cinnamon theme, which was originally meant to be a Harvest Event creature. After the Cimidstik was chosen, the creature got a complete redesign.
