Appearance

The Chamei looks like a cross between an amphibian and a fish. It has two pairs of short, blunt legs and a smooth, slightly rotund body. Its most prominent feature is a pair of wide pectoral fins that allow it to swim quickly in the water, similar to a manta ray, or eagle ray; followed by two smaller ones near the end of the former, partially overlapping them during movement. Unlike the original design, the Chamei sports a long, thin tail with several rudder fins, three pairs located on bilateral symmetry at the sides of the tail base, and a three-rudder fin halfway through with three dorsoventral pairs of spiked fins following it. A small spike is also visible at the end of the tail, giving it a forked-like appearance. The Chamei also presents small facial tendrils that may have bioluminescent spots that may function as sensory organs. Finally its mouth presents two very small cephalic lobes to the sides.

**Males**: Males have no additional features.

Abilities

Fortify
Fortify is an active ability with a 90-second cooldown that wipes almost all status effects deemed as negative, excluding thirst, hunger, plushie-derived effects, and weather effects. It will also wipe beneficial status effects if they contain at least one debuff. It grants a short immunity to all status effects gained after being activated, and increases weight by 5% for a short period according to the stack number (3, in this case).
Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Healing Pulse
Healing Pulse is an active ability that applies a small hit-point healing buff, as well as the Healing Ailment to creatures around the user and and the user themselves for 12 seconds. When used, a spark explosion effect appears from the user. Has a 90 second cooldown.
Block Bleed (0.70)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.25)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Broodwatcher
Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows users to assist in the gestation of other players' eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
Defensive Necropoison (0.5)
Defensive Necropoison is a passive ability that makes the user deal Necropoison Status to an attacker upon being bitten. It stacks with itself, but does not get worse over time.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Trivia

  • Designed and modeled by malarkeii. Inspired by "a whale stingray combo but just phat." (Quoted by the concept creator malarkeii.)
  • While the original Chamei had six (6) legs in total, it is not capable of using them to walk on land. Its size and weight are too much for its legs to handle.
  • As of a much older statement around 2021, a remodel was planned to come along, but naturally, this have gone outdated. However, on August 5th, 2024, a new remodel was announced and was added to the game. The old design of the creature was possibly going to be renamed as "Cham-Cham". However, this did not happen.
  • Redesign concept by Undeary.
  • Redesign modeled by Exell_Ex.
  • Redesign rigged by Mezzioli.
  • Some players have nicknamed it "Sea Pancake" or just "Pancake".
  • Chamei's calls are composed of whale like sounds, and some have the sound designer's own vocalizations, which can best be described as "purring".
