Appearance

The Flipli is a small, round creature resembling a non-translucent water flea. Its default colors include blues and pinks, with the main body being mostly dark navy blue on top and pink underneath that fades into purple. It has two round blue eyes, a protruding snout, two pairs of whisker-like appendages, and a third pair of longer appendages ending in small bulbs, with another long pair above each eye. Bioluminescent dots are arranged in six vertical lines under its body, starting as light blue and fading into purple, capable of switching up to three colors when moving, in an up-down, front-back change wave pattern. Its back features thick swirly markings that begin as purple on top of its head and transition to a light blue swirl at each side of its body. Purple square-shaped markings are seen near the head and below the swirls, and rectangle-shaped markings lower down its back. The Flipli has three pairs of dark navy blue limbs situated lower down its body, each with three bioluminescent dots; the first pair has three light blue stubs for fingers, while the other pairs resemble flippers with a structure, similar in appearance to the fingers, at the ends. Additionally, its body ends in a short, narrow tail-like tip.

Abilities

Dazzling Flash
Dazzling Flash is an active ability that generates a quick white flash and causes nearby creatures to experience confusion, tunnel vision, and blurred vision. It has a 70 second cooldown.
Latch (1)
Latch is an active ability that allows the user to latch onto higher-tiered creatures. Creatures that the user has latched into cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the latched creature can struggle by pressing any button and will release such creature from the latch. The user can unlatch at any moment by pressing the same button used to latch in the first place.
Block Bleed (0.50)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Frostbite (0.10)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Defensive Paralyze (1)
Defensive Paralyze/Defensive Paralysis is a passive ability that deals paralysis to an attacker upon a user with this ability being attacked.
Defensive Poison (2)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Guilt
Guilt/Defensive Guilt is a passive ability that halves the amount of damage taken upon being bitten.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Behavior

  • They can be found in deep ocean waters, and tropical coral reefs! They can also be seen swimming around larger creatures!
  • Flipli are pretty clueless, but like having fun and being silly! They can be found munching on tiny plants and algae, pecking at corals, and picking at detritus/marine snow. Some larger creatures come up to them to be cleaned and are gently pecked at to get rid of mites, parasites, algae, and more! They love rolling and tumbling around underwater, and are all around very cute! They can clean their whiskers similar to shrimp/some bugs, where they grab them and gently nibble on them.
  • They use their lights to communicate through flashing and patterns! They do also chirp and meep. Perhaps this would be used to get the attention of others, or a form of play.
  • They have a hard shell, with very squishy insides. Their tummy has a sturdy enough surface to keep it's shape when out of the water.
  • They can sometimes be seen rolling around on beaches as another form of play, and maybe come across food to peck at.
  • Male Flipli have a little bit of "fur" on their back that the female rubs their eggs into so they can be carried around on the male until they hatch.
  • They have little grabby hands! two fingers and one thumb, they can pick up tiny little things like pebbles, coral, or even smaller flipli.

Trivia

  • Concept by CatasticalCalamity. Inspired by water fleas, shrimp, comb jellies, and a bit of seal.[1]
  • Model by MidnightAJC8308.
  • Rig by ThunderBoo666.
  • Animated by Minisode1_BlueHour and SleepyNorsil.
  • Probably due to its hitbox shape and size and walk animation, Flipli can climb surfaces much better than any other creature excluding those with actual Climber ability, behaving almost like "legacy" climbing, where as long as there was not a ≥90 degree step nor any special slippery blocks, someone skilled enough could climb a surface.
  • Flipli's calls contain the sounds of a squeaky lid being turned.
