Appearance

Galeostra is a six-limbed gastropod creature with a very strong resemblance to its inspiration, the Glaucus atlanticus. As such, it has six main "leg" appendages, from which multiple cerata and fingerlike appendages stem, and smaller versions of these tendrils protruding from the snout and tail. Unlike its inspiration, its longest tendrils do not protrude from the extremities, but from the shoulders and base of the tail. Its ventral area and tail are not only coated with a slime-like effect, created by reversing visible faces on some parts, but are also decorated with a dotted-star bioluminescence.

Galeostra has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Reflect
Reflect is an active ability. Upon initial use, it will grant the user 2 stacks of Reflect Status. It has a cooldown of 45 seconds.
Block Bleed (0.75)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Poison (0.75)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Defensive Poison (3)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.

Behavior

  • Galeostra are neutral creatures and couldn't care less about the shoals of fish they attract with their flickering lights.
  • Galeostra are not great parents and often lose their babies while traveling. Despite this, many of the babies end up making it to adulthood.
  • Galeostra are surprisingly good at breaching and are often mistaken for shooting stars. They can flicker their lights in patterns and even communicate with each other using this method.
  • The second Galeostra are born they start eating a wide variety of poisonous flora, even though it provides little to no sustenance for them.
  • They like to wander the twilight zone of Sonaria's oceans in search of some of their favorite food.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Despite being photovores (Only lore-wise, in-game mechanics they are herbivores), Galeostra actually eat a lot of plant life; it is unknown why they do this.
  • Galeostra are like oobleck: hit them hard and it's like hitting a wall, but just tap them and they're squishy.
  • Galeostra are surprisingly good at breaching and are often mistaken for shooting stars. They can flicker their lights in patterns and even communicate with each other using this method.
  • The reason Galeostra eats a wide variety of poisonous flora is to gain near immunity to poison and become poisonous themselves. A favorite food of Galeostra is an extremely poisonous twilight mushroom found in the twilight zone of Sonaria's oceans. This mushroom can even affect the color of some Galeostra, turning them purple or pink.

Trivia

  • Concept by Xhosa_Onkai in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The Galeostra was inspired by the blue glaucus and stars. This inspiration can be seen not only in its design, but in its lore and stats as well, since the blue glaucus is also poisonous to touch.
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb. Wolfragon had begun modeling the Galeostra long before it was properly unveiled, but this older model was scrapped.
  • Animations by Rook (mishazhirov).
  • Galeostra was said to come out on October 14th, 2022, but due to how long it would take to get everything ready, the developers pushed its release date to October 15th, along with the Bazelii.
  • The Galeostra has dark blue blood in Legacy. Due to this, when killed on Legacy, the Galeostra drops a blue carcass. This is an actual color in some Earth creatures, from those that use hemocyanin, a blue oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrate's blood.
