Appearance

The Geoptxina is stout quadrupedal creature which bears a large resemblance to real life tortoises. It has a square-ish head with a sharp beak and no teeth. Its eyebrow ridge and the sides of its neck are lined with wide spikes. The Geoptxina has a uniquely shaped shell in that it creates a triangular shape when viewed from the front or a three-fourths angle. The "scutes" of its shell start from the creatures tail up to its shoulders, and they curve forward in such a way where there is an overhang on the front of each scute. Underneath each overhang is a crystalline texture, making the Geoptxina's shell resemble a geode when viewed at the right angles. The creature has a mid-sized tail, which has a heavy club on its tail tip.

**Males**: Males have spikes along the sides of their jaw.

Abilities

Dazzling Flash
Dazzling Flash is an active ability that generates a quick white flash and causes nearby creatures to experience confusion, tunnel vision, and blurred vision. It has a 70 second cooldown.
Block Bleed (0.80)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.70)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Defensive Injury (1)
Injury touch/Defensive Injury is an ability that defensively deals injury status when bitten.
Hunker (70)
Hunker is a passive ability that activates when a user with this ability strafes. While active, hunker reduces the creature's speed by 25%, damage by 50%, and reduces damage taken by a percentage based on what is listed for the creature. For example, a creature with 75 hunker will only receive 25% of damage while the ability is active.

Behavior

  • They are rather sleepy all the time, so they stay long periods of time just resting in shallow waters in summer and inside caves on winter immobile.
  • Geoptxinas store energy to walk many kilometers and never get tired.
  • Baby Geoptxinas (called pebbles) are very energetic, practicing their head-butting against bigger and taller creatures' legs. Babies are also born mature enough to be on their own, so they are independent on the get go.
  • They maintain their hearts to a slow but powerful rhythm, and their blood is mesothermic. Very adaptable to different temperatures, but prefer warmth.
  • If smaller creatures are looking for shelter, Geoptxinas don't mind having them hide in the shell as long as they are not annoying, even defending the little creatures from predators.
  • They can be rather territorial and try scaring away their own kin or anything bigger than themselves.
  • They get to live up to 300 years, and are not that smart.
  • Melons, gourds and any big, juicy fruit are their favorite meals.
  • If one were to look long enough, the geode crystals in the shell shimmer and glow with mild bioluminescence that serves to mesmerize and calm down.

Trivia

  • Concept by Skydowkat in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by tortoises, ankylosaurs, and also by Malphite from League of Legends in its early concepts. Originally its design was meant to be more cave-like, but it changed to be more based around geodes and ended up mixing the two ideas. The intent of the creature's design was to make a silly, but kind-looking tank. "Not meant to swim at all..."
  • In Legacy, the Geoptxina temporarily flashes its geode parts on use of its Dazzling Flash ability.
  • The Geoptxina's name is based off the words Geode + Petxina (the latter meaning shell in Catalan).
  • The Geoptxina was originally going to release during the second part of the LSS Event 2023, although due to issues with its model it was delayed to part 3 and substituted with the Khetheral redesign.
