Appearance

The Gorgonichus resembles a cross between a terror bird, a Dromaeosaurinae theropod, and a turkey with some vulture-like details on their neck plumage. As such, they are birds with generally muted and natural colors, typically brown, and a tail fan. The only distinctive differences are their raptor-like feet with five (5) fingers, and their mouth, which has a strange beak where its front resembles a row of retracted teeth fused together, resembling the pseudoteeth on some sea-birds. Additionally, their waddle is only present near the tip and sides of their beak. It is interesting to notice that unlike other Sonarian creatures at the moment of release, they have eyelids capable of blinking.

**Males**: Males have a pair of ram-like horns with a cuff on the left one, as well as an additional short protrusion on the top of their beaks that resembles a snood.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Spite (0.25)
Spite is an active ability that increases a user's next attack damage based on its power meter, which gradually fills once the ability is triggered and then drains to 0 if no creature is attacked by the user during this time. It also has a customizable percentage (%) of the creature's damage (the % listed is the max of said creature's Spite power). Alongside raw damage, the user inflicts double ailments on their targets. The ability has a 20-second cooldown that starts upon activation.
Block Bleed (0.10)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Injury Attack (2)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Charge (Power)
Charge is a passive ability that gradually fills an orange "Charge" bar (unique to creatures with this ability) while running. Once completely full, clicking (Lmb on PC or on Mobile or RT on Xbox) will apply special effects on a creature the user is hitting. If the bar is not full, charge effects may be reduced or non-existent. Current Charge types:
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Soft Landing (0.8)
Soft Landing is a passive ability that allows the user to fall more slowly, depending on each creature's specific stat number. It works when walking off cliffs/falling, detaching, darting, or jumping. It is cancellable by pressing (Space on PC or or B on Xbox).
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.
Wing Shredder (2)
Wing Shredder is a passive ability that allows the user to offensively deal the Shredded Wings status to a creature they bite..

Behavior

  • The Gorgonichus are comparable to very nippy chickens in their social circles, composed of packs of 4-6 with a pecking hierarchy order usually with the largest at the top. It is not uncommon for males to end up at the top just because their horns can make them appear bigger than they really are, but otherwise the gender of a Gorgonichus does not affect status. When Gorgonichus gather yearly for nesting, they usually shuffle up their groups upon leaving. Because of this, the pecking order has to be reestablished yearly, which causes lots of in-fighting.
  • Gorgonichus are vicious with little strategy or reason when it comes to hunting down creatures, not even considering status effects they may inflict, and mostly just all rush in and start going ham, overwhelming creatures with numbers. Unless threatened by a significantly larger creature, they are very stubborn and don't stand down. Despite their aggressive nature both with other creatures and each other in close quarters, Gorgonichus don't mind other groups of their species and leave them be. They frequently mistake other avian creatures as the same species.
  • Gorgonichus favor wooded biomes, but also can be found venturing in open grassy areas. They also migrate to the rockier regions of the desert annually to nest.

Trivia

  • Concept by Stood_04. Inspired by turkeys, raptors (Utahraptor to be more specific), and vaguely T-rex. Early on its design its horns used to resemble metal cornucopias that were eventually swapped to ram horns. Gorgonichus being able to fly as a joke was considered at one point, where it would have had an almost worthlessly low flight speed and a silly uncoordinated flight animation.
  • It is the first creature in-game to have eyelids, meaning it can blink. The second creature to be able to blink is Anutill, with the third being Aueko.
  • Gorgonichus is also the first non-limited, regular-time creature that switched from event-themed (has a theme related to an specific festivity event in-real-life and in-game but it is available all-year-round) to event-limited (as a Thanksgiving special); during the change between Legacy and Recode.
