Appearance

The Moemoea is an omnipedal creature that walks and stands on four legs, but runs on two. It that holds a resemblance to the Parasaurolophus. The Moemoea has an overall alien look to it with wispy crests and frills which resemble otherworldly flowers. These frills can be spotted on the head, specifically on the forehead and around the eyes. They are also found running down the back, at the base of the tail, and on the shins. Many of these frills expand into tendrils or whiskers. The neck of the Moemoea is long, and covered in a sort of armour plate, also resembling flowers. The Moemoea's back is covered in similar armour which appears more stiff and hard. The body of the Moemoea is rounded and bulky, supported by long, somewhat thin legs.

**Males**: Males have larger, brighter coloured frills on their shins.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Poison Area
Poison Area/Area Poison is an active ability that inflicts 5 stacks (15 seconds) of the Poison Status to all nearby creatures within 100 studs, excluding the user, with a 90 second cooldown.
Toxic Trap
Toxic Trap is an active ability that creates a toxic mud pile that stays for an unspecified amount of time and will slowly poison anyone who touches it (excluding the ability user).
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.25)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Frostbite (0.35)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Block Injury (0.50)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Poison (1.00)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Broodwatcher
Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows users to assist in the gestation of other players' eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
Defensive Poison (4)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Poison Attack (0.5)
Poison Attack is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to another creature upon biting them. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Behavior

  • Moemoea inhabit the rolling plains and dense woodland of Sonaria. As they travel in packs, they prefer to stick together in relatively large and open areas where there is a lot of room for escape if danger arrives.
  • Moemoea are pack creatures, moving in herds for safety and engaging in highly social lifestyle, similar to real-world elephants. Their lives are mostly spent grazing fields and forest undergrowth, as they are rather large and require a lot of sustenance to remain active.
  • They are primarily crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) creatures, and feed off of glowing plants that allow them to retain a type of bioluminescence on their outer frills.
  • At night and during the day, Moemoea migrate to dense Sonaria undergrowth to hide effectively from predators.
  • The only time these creatures become effectively "aggressive" is when their young are threatened, and the adults form into a group to protect their young. They trample their enemies and primarily rely on defensive maneuvers.
  • Moemoea are able to display their cheek frills much like a frilled lizard can, and use them as a way to ward off predators.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Moemoea are very fond of eating Mush, much to the dismay of the other creatures of Sonaria who sometimes seem to use this currency in a form of trade.
  • Any mutations seen in the original concept art are effectively canonical/lore mutations; while not appearing in-game, some Moemoea may exhibit these mutations with no boost in stats.

Trivia

  • Designed by malarkeii. Moemoea's design was heavily influenced by Parasaurolophus as well as the wings of butterflies, which is why the Moemoea is so frilly and colorful. It was created for the original fantasy approach that Agartha intended, to be whimsical and mysterious. The name "Moemoea" is one of the few names given to a creature made by malarkeii that originally had no basis in another language or meaning. That said, it may have meaning in some languages. In certain Polynesian languages, it's a word meaning "dream", or more rarely depending on context, "fantasy". It was originally planned to have physical mutations like extra teeth and other features, but for development reasons (extra hidden parts cause more lag), these weren't added to the game.
  • Modeled by Erythia.
  • Redesigned by Stood ( Stood_04 ). The redesign was inspired by Parasaurs and flowers.
  • Redesign modeled by Exell_Ex.
  • Redesign rigged by Mezzioli.
  • Redesign animated by kazooduder.
  • Moemoea was once featured on the Creatures of Sonaria thumbnail, but was later swapped out for another thumbnail.
  • The original Moemoea description referred to Sonaria as Agartha, which is Sonaria's original name back during the early stages of the game.
