Appearance

The Nyctoxon is a front-heavy quadrupedal creature that resembles a cross between an owl and a bear. It has feathers and icy spikes that cover its body. The ice spikes form antlers on the Nyctoxon's head, a ridge down its back, as well as armor for its shoulders and legs. There also seems to be a set of four (4) non-icy spikes that stick out of the Nyctoxon alongside the icy ridge on its back. It has a beaked face, deer-like ears, and feathers that dangle from its lower jaw. It also has a short, feathered tail. It has a slight resemblance to an owl bear from the D&D games. As a juvenile, they have a third eye on their forehead, which later becomes less visible upon reaching adult stage.

Nyctoxon has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Snow Shield
The Snow Shield ability creates a large, protective dome around the user. It will only despawn once the user triggers the ability again, until the user leaves or menus, until the shield is broken via biting, or until the user dies. When the Snow Shield ability is active, the user's hunger and thirst will drain three times faster. Upon initial activation of the ability, the user will not be able to create another dome for another 5 minutes.
Bleed Attack (4)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.4)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Charge (Crush)
Charge is a passive ability that gradually fills an orange "Charge" bar (unique to creatures with this ability) while running. Once completely full, clicking (Lmb on PC or on Mobile or RT on Xbox) will apply special effects on a creature the user is hitting. If the bar is not full, charge effects may be reduced or non-existent. Current Charge types:
Defensive Frostbite (0.5)
Frostbite touch/Defensive Frostbite is an ability that defensively deals frostbite when bitten.
Frostbite Attack (0.5)
Frostbite Attack is an ability that offensively deals frostbite when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Frosty
Frosty is a passive ability that causes the user to receive +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine. Additionally, it prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.

Behavior

  • The Nyctoxon has a rivalry with the Arsonos, to the point of being its arch-nemesis, for unknown reasons.
  • Nyctoxon are smarter than Salrahn, an already intelligent species. "Salrahn are almost as smart as nycto but nycto is biggest brain" (quoted from JaxonBirb).

  • Jaxon revealed in a stream that her reasoning for choosing Nyctoxon is because she likes fluffy things, she likes ice because it relates to the snow, she loves birds, and she likes brute things because of strength. All of this was combined into Nyctoxon. The Nyctoxon is an "Owl-bear" specifically, as confirmed by Jaxon.
  • There used to be a color glitch that allowed players to make blue versions of the Nyctoxon. These "Blue Nyctoxons" were highly popular and sought after, just like pink Lures. This no longer works, as your Nyctoxon will be set to default.
  • First creature to have the Snow Shield ability
  • First creature to have the Glacier Breath ability.
  • There is a UGC item for this creature called Nyctoxon Mask, which was purchasable for 75 Robux. It was made by TamBrush, and is now offsale.
