Appearance

Ani are bipedal creatures with resemblance to rabbits/hares. Their primary colors consist of white, beige, yellow, and orange, with the main body being mostly white. They have a rabbit-like head and beige markings around their eyes, cheeks, and atop their nose. Ani's long, floppy beige ears end in tufts of fur and extend down to their heels. Atop their heads are tufts of white fur, and beige fur in front of the ear canal. Ani have a beige underbelly that fades to a lighter tone going down. Exposed on their chest is a sparkly orange glass orb with a smaller solid yellow orb in the center. Between their shoulder blades are 3 pairs of long, thin yellow and orange fin-like protrusions, with each pair decreasing in size going down. Both arms and legs end with beige colored paws, and each has four fingers, three toes, and sharp goldish claws. An orb protrudes from the palm of their hands, like the one on the chest. They also have a long tail with a furry tip and long fur at the base of the tail. Additionally, Ani have a floating orb enveloped in fiery particles that is usually seen on top of their heads.

Abilities

Burrower (4)
Burrower is an active ability that allows the user to place up to 4 (or a specific creature limit) burrows anywhere on the map and use burrows created by other players. If a user places more entrances than the maximum allowed, the oldest burrow and exit will be replaced. A user cannot place a burrow entrance inside its own burrow or inside someone else's burrow. There is a 3 second cooldown between entering and exiting burrows, excluding entering a burrow after its initial placement.
Healing Hunter (65)
Healing Hunter is a toggleable active ability that allows the user to deal melee hits that replenish the target's HP when hitting. This ability also allows the healer to toggle between melee heal mode and regular attack mode, where the healer's bites deal melee damage instead. It also prevents bleed and poison-booster plushies from giving extra offensive bleed or poison when hitting under healing mode. If a creature with this ability is on healing mode, they are surrounded by a pink hollow sphere with pink cross particles.
Speed Steal
Speed Steal is an active ability that provides a speed boost to the user while giving 4 stacks of Stolen Speed Status to nearby creatures.
Bleed Attack (-0.5)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (-1.0)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Necropoison (0.50)
Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
Burn Attack (-1)
Burn Attack is an ability that offensively deals burn when biting. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Corrosion Attack (-0.5)
Corrosion Attack/Corrosion Bite is an ability that offensively deals Corrosion when biting. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Defensive Burn (1.5)
Burn touch/Defensive burn is an ability that deals burn to the opposing creature when being bitten. Stacks with itself.
Disease Attack (-0.5)
Disease Attack is a passive ability where the user inflicts a specific amount of Disease status on any creature it bites. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Frostbite Attack (-0.5)
Frostbite Attack is an ability that offensively deals frostbite when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Guilt
Guilt/Defensive Guilt is a passive ability that halves the amount of damage taken upon being bitten.
Injury Attack (-0.5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.
Necropoison Attack (-0.5)
Necropoison Attack is a passive ability that allows the user to deal Necropoison Status to any creature it bites. It stacks with itself but does not get worse over time. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Poison Attack (-0.5)
Poison Attack is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to another creature upon biting them. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery is a passive ability that boosts HP regeneration when the user's health is below 40%. The lower the health, the higher the HP regeneration boost.
Soft Landing (0.65)
Soft Landing is a passive ability that allows the user to fall more slowly, depending on each creature's specific stat number. It works when walking off cliffs/falling, detaching, darting, or jumping. It is cancellable by pressing (Space on PC or or B on Xbox).

Behavior

  • Ani's personality is very gentle and energetic, and they never have feelings of malice or hatred.
  • They are incredibly altruistic and will give to others for no obvious benefit to themselves. However, they can feel skepticism and distrust, which improves their chances at survival and encourages them to prefer healing friendly creatures rather than anything potentially hostile.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Ani had a pure origin that originally made them totally incapable of feeling skepticism nor distrust, and those were given in their transferal from Eyzira to Sonaria.
  • Their visual appearance does not reflect their gentle nature; on the contrary, from appearance alone, they look almost tribal or even barbaric.
  • Their six fin-like protrusions from their shoulder blades vibrate as a means of visual communication of emotion or danger.

Trivia

  • The Ani was created by Eti/Xan_TheDragon, with Sonaria's rendition being drawn by 0Neoki0 and modeled by JaxonBirb. Their appearance was lightly inspired by that of Spirits from the Ori game franchise, something retained over the 6 years of their existence in writing. Their design has undergone very little change since their initial creation for Lands of Eyzira. In the original concept, male Ani had distinctive glassy horns protruding from their head made of a raw, unknown type of energy almost resembling solid light. These horns pulsated calmly with a strange pattern etched into the surface. Males also had a gruffer facial structure that looked perpetually angry, even though they were just as friendly as females. They also had three discrete arrow-shaped markings under each eye. In contrast, female Ani had very streamlined bodies in their original concept, being roughly 90% of the weight of males on average. Their back fins tended to be very slightly smaller, and their tails less fin-like in favor of a more graceful, uniform shape. Females also have a thin, curled line marking under each eye rather than the three arrows. Eti created a specification document that loosely goes over making OCs in response to the number of requests for permission to do so. This document can be found on his website: Eti the Spirit :: Random Bits and Pieces ▶︎ The Ani The Ani has extensive backing lore because they were originally a core component of Eti's unreleased MMORPG Lands of Eyzira. In their original lore, the Ani were creatures designed to bridge the gap between the pure/perfect afterlife and the impure real world, being the only creatures capable of such a feat. They were present in an end-game area intended for maximum-rank players. The strange pillars seen in their home realm are compared to a material from the MMORPG WildStar known as Exanite. The texture on the pillar in Sonaria, as their teaser, uses a texture derived from that of Exanite. A unique quirk about them was that they could focus and redirect light, hence the volumetric glow above their tops. The now-removed pillar easter egg played sounds from Exanite crystals when players stood around it. The pillar can still be seen in this experience. Their name is both the singular and plural form ("Anis" is not correct). It is generally more correct to refer to them as The Ani rather than just by name, Ani.
  • In Legacy, the male/female signifying features (flame/light streak) do not show in the customizer, nor do the orbs. This is intentional, as the orbs are not part of the creature itself and are instead an item given to them. The flame or light streak comes from the creature's internal energy, so its color is not able to be changed. This was also intentional from a mechanical perspective, namely, to discourage extremely odd color palettes due to them not matching the general aesthetic of the orbs and flame/streak. The orbs and Restoration Beam on Eti's personal Ani appear blue instead of gold, making it one-of-a-kind.
  • Legacy Ani is the first species to have physics-based objects (the orbs) that are not part of the rig itself. However, in Recode its model no longer has the orbs or the Restoration Beam.
  • Ani is also the first species to receive bright white-gold blood - the Aereis's shade is far more yellow. Due to this, when dying on Legacy, the Ani drops a white-gold carcass.
  • Ani was the first species to have negative damage during Legacy, making it quite literally "un-hurt" their target with its melee attack (Lmb on PC or on Mobile). Additionally, in Legacy they were the first species rendered completely incapable of dealing direct damage in any way. Most notably, any items that modify the damage, ability, or breath of the Ani are overridden and instead have no effect. However, this has since been changed in Recode, as now all healers gained the ability to switch between healing mode and hurting mode.
  • While normally unobtainable by ordinary players, players with god mode enabled in Legacy have their health bar shown as cyan with "UNLIMITED HEALTH" shown above the bar in place of the status effects. This can be seen on any creature with god mode enabled, but Eti's personal Ani was the first to be seen publicly. Additionally, a Unique Variant, Athulyth, owned by Eti, shows a golden bar with "THE GILDED ONE" above it as a reference to the character that created the Ani in their original lore headcanon.
  • Ani lost its developer creature condition and became a Robux Shop creature on October 28th, 2022. Before that, the species was formerly available in the Tikit Shop.
