Appearance

The Axothan is a Leviathan-like creature with colors and patterns resembling that of a beautiful night sky. It has two big horns which jut from its head, as well as one small horn on the tip of its snout. Sprouting from each side of its head are four feathery appendages that bear a resemblance to the gills of an axolotl. In its jaw are small, white teeth and a dark-blue tongue. The Axothan has a feathery dorsal fin, as well as 2 pairs of flippers towards the front of its body. Its front pair of flippers are larger than the back pair, but both are almost wing-like in appearance in that they appear feathery towards the tip but transition to a more solid design as they meet the side of the body. Along the section that connects the body to the tail are more feathery decorations which cover the intersection. Its tail ends with a feathery, fan-like structure.

**Males**: Males have double spikes on their chins and a row of spikes on their tails.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Invisibility
Invisibility is an active ability that makes the user invisible to other players when toggled. Invisibility allows the user to walk and swim cloaked as long as they don't bite, use any active ability, sprint, ambush, or jump/fly/glide. While active it does not hide the creature from being spotted by scent. Additionally, invisibility has a 30 second cooldown after being activated; however, deactivating the ability does not modify the cooldown.
Bleed Attack (2.5)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.25)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Frostbite (0.25)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Injury Attack (2.5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery is a passive ability that boosts HP regeneration when the user's health is below 40%. The lower the health, the higher the HP regeneration boost.

Trivia

  • Original and redesigned concepts by @Linhmeomeo on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The Axothan was inspired by an axolotl and a Leviathan. The name "Axothan" may be a portmanteau of the words 'axolotl' and 'Leviathan'. The Axothan re-design was inspired by the original Axothan (as well as its original inspirations: axolotls and Leviathans), galaxy/constellation themes, and the Tidal Jewel by Arukanoda on Deviantart.
  • Modeled by Erythia.
  • Axothan was one of the few playable creatures in the game's Alpha stages.
  • Some of its pre-remodel animations were broken. They were fixed by replacing them with the new remodel animations. The original model for Axothan did not have a melee attack animation using main attack controls (Lmb on PC or on Mobile) or rolling animation using rolling controls (Holding N on PC). In its redesign, it was temporarily missing a melee attack animation and later received it, but it is still missing the rolling animation. Even if a creature does not have a particular animation, it can still execute actions such as attacking and rolling. However, the bite animation was so broken on the original model that Axothan normally couldn't even bite until something else dealt damage to it.
  • Axothan used to be one of the most popular underwater creatures during Beta.
  • Axothan is the first fully-aquatic creature to receive Invisibility.
