Appearance

The Bolatra is a quadrupedal creature that combines the features of a Hydra and mushroom, specifically the inky cap. Its default colors include different shades of purple, white, and black, with the main body being white. It possesses three heads, with the middle head being the largest; each head lacks eyes, and its cranium takes the shape of a sharp, wavy-edged mushroom's cap that drips tar-like, inky substances. The creature has serrated teeth, with the middle head having a split upper jaw. Its long, thin necks are subtly studded with four fungi-like structures colored purple underneath, resembling gills. Additional fungi structures can be seen on its chest, thighs, and the base of the tail, some of which have purple coloring on top. Its necks also bear wavy, fur-like structures, similar to the head caps, on the lower necks, back, and wrists/ankles of its dominant limbs, with the largest structure located at the base of the neck. The Bolatra has six limbs: two long front limbs with three toes/fingers, a shorter pair of theropod-like arms with four fingers, and thin back limbs with anisodactyl feet. Each limb ends in long, sickle-shaped claws. Additionally, the creature's long front limbs have a mushroom's cap on the elbows, and has black inky forearms. The Bolatra also has a black underside on the lower torso and a long, black inky tail with four mushroom's caps at the tail's end.

Bolatra has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Poison Area
Poison Area/Area Poison is an active ability that inflicts 5 stacks (15 seconds) of the Poison Status to all nearby creatures within 100 studs, excluding the user, with a 90 second cooldown.
Totem (Poison)
Totem is an active ability that allows an adult creature to drop a "lamp" totem, which stays for 2 minutes. It will affect any user in range with a lingering effect of stacking 1 extra of the Poison status per second until they are out of range. These totems can be destroyed if hit enough times.
Block Bleed (1.00)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (-0.25)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Disease (0.30)
Disease Block/Block Disease is a passive ability that grants the user partial resistance to getting the Disease status from attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 Disease per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Disease, then the receiver gets only 2 of 6 stacks. If a creature's Block Disease is 100%, then they are immune to Disease inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages.
Block Necropoison (1.00)
Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
Block Poison (1.00)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Climber
Climber is a passive ability that allows the user to walk on walls and ceilings. To detach from a wall, press the Space on PC. On Mobile, press the dedicated Detach button, or, if the creature has Jump, press the jump button.
Corrosion Attack (1)
Corrosion Attack/Corrosion Bite is an ability that offensively deals Corrosion when biting. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Defensive Disease (2)
Defensive Disease is a passive ability where the user defensively inflicts a specific amount of Disease status on an attacker upon getting bitten.
Defensive Necropoison (2)
Defensive Necropoison is a passive ability that makes the user deal Necropoison Status to an attacker upon being bitten. It stacks with itself, but does not get worse over time.
Defensive Poison (3)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery is a passive ability that boosts HP regeneration when the user's health is below 40%. The lower the health, the higher the HP regeneration boost.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Bolatras are colonial, parasitic organisms that live off of controlling the body of their victims. The tar-like substance their body gives off contain their spores and if it gets into a creatures' stomach, lungs or bloodstream it will allow for new Bolatras to develop, which take over the host.
  • Bolatras have a short lifespan of only about 6 months to 2 years, as the body of their host deteriorates over time. The smaller the host is, the quicker it falls apart. Due to this, Bolatras take any chances they can get in order to infect other creatures and show great aggression towards anything moving.
  • The Bolatra in game is an infected teen Varskela.
  • Bolatras can only develop in healthy hosts. Weak or sick creatures usually die from Bolatra infections.
  • Bolatras can only infect creatures that are in their tier range. This also includes the juvenile and teen forms of larger tier creatures. This is because larger creatures are capable of fighting off the fungal infection with minimal symptoms.
  • Like most fungus-like organisms, Bolatras do not have a clear binary gender.
  • All Bolatras are capable of infecting other creatures, by spreading their spores through Conidium Conidiogenesis.

Trivia

  • Concept by Renoray/Renorayz in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by inky cap mushrooms, Hydras, and zombies from The Last of Us. Bolatra's name is based on the Romanian word "boală", which means disease, and bolete, which is a type of mushroom.
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • Animated by Mukudori and Zyraphes.
  • Bolatra is the 4th creature to possess 3 heads, the other 3 being Ahri'Tahmuk, Cavengauu, and Sylvesqual.
  • Bolatra is the 3rd creature to have a mushroom-based designs incorporated into it, the other 2 being Shro and Arkmetta. Interestingly, Bolatra and Arkmetta has dark skin-color shooms, as they are both inspired by the inky cap mushrooms, while Shro has the in-game currency color and model ones.
  • The Bolatra was given a slight model change only a day before release. This change made its cranial area significantly smaller.
