How The Calculator Works
Probability Models
Since the exact RNG formula is unknown, we provide three models based on community research:
- Linear (Optimistic): Luck directly multiplies your chances. 1000% luck = 11x better odds.
- Realistic: Luck is about 76% as effective as the linear model.
- Conservative: Luck is about 35% as effective as the linear model.
Time Estimates
Time estimates are calculated using geometric probability distribution:
- 50% Chance: Number of casts where you have a 50% chance of catching the fish at least once.
- 90% Chance: Number of casts where you have a 90% chance.
- 99% Chance: Number of casts where you have a 99% chance.
Formula
The number of casts needed is calculated as: N = log(1 - target%) / log(1 - probability)

- Higher luck significantly reduces catch time for rare fish.
- Casts per hour varies based on rod type and fishing spot.
- Use the Realistic model for a balanced estimate.
