Mobs are the creatures in minecraft. They're able to move and interact on their own, though the input of a player could change their behavior. We generally divide all the mobs into 4 categories, passive, neutral, hostile (aggressive) and boss mobs. Nether portals are used to gain travel to and from the Nether and are build using obsidian. A minimum of 10 obsidian blocks are required to build it, though most people use 14 as it looks better.

Minecraft Abandoned Mineshafts

Abandoned mineshafts are underground structures, which are randomly generated in the Overworld. They are enormous and their structure makes it very easy to get lost in them. This includes long corridors, different height levels, and many identical-looking paths.

Minecraft Zombie Pigmen

Zombie pigmen, often just refered to as pigmen, are the most common mobs in the Nether. They can often be heard from far away due to their loud grunts and growls.

Minecraft Villagers

Villagers, squidwards, testificates or one of the many other nicknames that have been given to this odd looking mob, are the inhabitants of the randomly generated villages you can find around minecraft.

Minecraft Squid

Squid are the only water dwelling mob in minecraft and can spawn in any large enough body of water, in any biome, in any light level and on any game difficulty level. However, only between height levels 45 and 62. It's not uncommon to find a squid in your pool or pond.

Minecrafrt Snow Golems

Snow golems or snowmen, are player-created mobs, which are made by stacking 2 snow blocks and placing a pumpkin on top if it. The pumpkin has to be placed last for it to work. A jack-o-lanter also works, but this doesn't change the appearance of the golem. They cannot be created using pistons, as pumpkins cannot be pushed by them.

Minecraft Spiders

Spiders are one of the most agile mobs in minecraft and can often wait for a player before ambushing them. They're one of the wider sized mobs in minecraft. They're 2 blocks wide and long, and 1 block tall.

Minecraft Wolves

Wolves, are neutral mobs, which would be tamed by the player. They're unique to (pine) forest and taiga biomes and are usually found in groups of 3.

Minecraft Slimes

Slimes are green, gelatinous blocks that come in 3 sizes, large, medium and tiny. Unlike most hostile mobs, slimes can spawn in any light level.

Minecraft Pigs

Pigs are passive mobs found throughout the Overworld, though they only spawn in light levels of 9 and higher.

Minecraft Sheep

Sheep are passive mobs fround throughout the Overworld, though they can only spawn on grass and only in light of level 9 or higher. Killing a sheep will cause it to drop 1 piece of wool and experience orbs worth a total of 1-3 experience points, however, shear a sheep will give you 1-3 pieces of wool. Once sheared the sheep will (eventually) eat grass and regain its wool, so you can shear it again. Sheep are most likely the only mob you don't want to kill, as they could be worth more to you alive.

Minecraft Silverfish

Silverfish are small, hostile mobs that look more like a strange caterpillar than a fish. They drop nothing when they're killed, which just makes them more annoying to deal with.

Minecraft Skeletons

Skeletons were the first projectile firing mobs added to minecraft. With their bow and arrow they can put up a good fight, though they generally shouldn't be too difficult to deal with.

Minecraft Ocelots

The ocelot or jungle cat, is a passive mob unique to the jungle biomes. These shy cats roam the jungles and can be hard to tame. Their speed and the thick jungle foliage make it hard to chase them while they slip through gaps and hide behind bushes or trees.

Minecraft Mooshrooms

A mooshroom is a rare type of cow that only spawns in mushroom biomes. They're red and white, with red mushrooms growing on their backs.

Minecraft Iron Golems

Iron golems are large, strong robot-like monsters, which resemble the villagers. Their purpose is to defend the villagers from any hostile mob, this includes the player if the player attacks any of the villagers.

Minecraft Magma Cubes

Magma cubes are basically the slimes of the Nether, but they differ from slimes in several ways. Besides their obvious difference in appearance, magma slimes also move differently. Instead of hopping like slimes, magma cubes separate into 8 different layers when they jump to move forward, somewhat resembling a spring.

Minecraft Enderman

The enderman, perhaps the most feared mob in minecraft since its release. With it's ability to teleport far away from the player and teleporting back in the blink of an eye, together with their strong attack and high health, the enderman is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Minecraft Ghasts

The high pitched cries of the ghasts are often the first thing you hear when you enter the Nether. These white, floating, jellyfish-like creatures can be a real pain to deal with.

Minecraft Creepers

By far the most dreaded and hated monster in minecraft. The creeper has caused more destruction and anger than any other mob in minecraft. Creepers are unique in the way they attack. Unlike all other mobs, the creeper doesn't attack you with anything. It will try to get close to you and explodes.

Minecraft Chickens

Chickens are one of the more useful passive mobs in the game, due to their low health, decent spawn rates and good drops. Chickens drop 0-2 feathers and 1 raw chicken when they're killed. They will also drop experience orbs, granting the player 1-3 experience points. Like other meat dropping mobs, their meat is cooked if they die by fire.

Minecraft Cows

Cows are by far the best passive animal to hunt for survival, especially in the early stages of the game.

Minecraft Blazes

Blazes are flying pillars of smoke, surrounded by 12 rods that rotate around their 'body'. They also have a yellow face, which is pretty much a recolored 'Steve'. When a blaze dies, it'll drop 0-1 blaze rod, but only if it's killed by a player. It also drops 10 experience points.

Minecraft Cave Spiders

Cave spiders are similar to normal spiders, but smaller and blue-ish grey in color. In addition to their small size, which allows them to pass through any gap that's half a block high and 1 block wide, the attack of a cave spider will also poison you, though this does not happen on easy difficulty.

Minecraft Ender Dragon

The Ender dragon is the first and currently only boss monster and dragon in minecraft. It lives in the End, along with many Endermen.

Minecraft Potion of Slowness

A potion of slowness will decrease your movement speed to that of sneaking. There are 2 types of potions of weakness. A 90 second version and a 4 minute version.

Minecraft Feathers

Feathers are obtained by killing chickens and are used to create arrows and book and quills. A chicken only drops 0-2 feathers, which makes gathering feathers in large quantities a bit tricky.

Minecraft Red Apple

Red apples are obtained by destroying oak leaves, which have a small chance of dropping apples. Decaying oak leaves can also drop apples, the chance of an apple dropping is the same for both decaying and destroyed leaves. Apples can also be found in chests in villages and strongholds.

Minecraft Arrows

Arrows are used as ammunition for bows and dispensers, however, bows can only shoot arrows, dispensers can shoot anything. Arrows can be crafted by the player by combining flint, a stick and a feather. They're also dropped by skeletons. Skeletons also shoot arrows, but those arrows cannot be picked up.

Minecraft Awkward Potion

Awkward potions are water bottles with a nether wart added to them. It forms the base of all potions, with the exception of potions of weakness. Secondary ingredients can be added to this potion to create potions with an actual effect.

Minecraft Axes

Axes are used to chop wooden items faster than by hand. They're not a requirement to use in game, but crafting in axe is definitely advised to speed things up a bit. Axes are crafted by the player using 2 sticks and either 3 planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, gold ingots or diamonds. Stone and wooden axes can be found in the bonus chest, which will save you a few minutes when you start a game.

Minecraft Steak (cooked beef)

Steak is obtained by cooking raw beef or by killing cows and mooshrooms with fire. They'll always drop 1-3 pieces of cooked or uncooked meat. Steaks restore 4 hunger bar slots and 12.8 hunger saturation, this makes beef the best food item in game, together with pork. Mushroom stew also restores 4 hunger bar slots, but only restores 9.6 hunger saturation. However, steaks are easier to farm in larger quantities than porkchops, as cows will drop 1-3 pieces of meat, while pigs only drop 0-2.

Minecraft Bowls

Bowls are created using planks and are currently only used to make mushroom stew. Mushroom stew can be made by either combining a bowl, a red mushroom and a brown mushroom in a crafting interface or by "milking" a mooshroom with the bowl.

Minecraft Beef (raw)

Beef is obtained by killing cows and mooshrooms, which drop 1-3 pieces of beef. If the cow or mooshroom dies by fire it'll drop cooked beef (steak). Raw beef will restore your hunger bar by 1.5 slots and your hunger saturation by 1.8. This means it's almost always better to cook your beef as cooked beef (steak) will restore 4 hunger bar slots and 12.8 hunger saturation. But if you're starving and there's no furnace around, eating raw beef is perfectly safe. It will not give you food poisoning.

Minecraft Blaze Powder

Blaze powder is obtained by crafting it with blaze rods. Each rod will create 2 powders. Blaze rods are dropped by blazes, found in Nether fortresses. Blaze powder is used to create eye of enders, magma cream and fire charges. Blaze powder also used in brewing to create a potion of strength or a potion of weakness.

Minecraft Blaze Rods

Blaze rods are dropped by blazes, found only in Nether fortresses. They're used to craft brewing stands and blaze powder. Blaze powder is used in brewing, as well as a component of eyes of ender, magma cream and fire charges. They can be used as a reasonably efficient fuel in furnaces. They last 120 seconds, though compared to coal, which lasts 80 seconds, are a little less efficient, as coal is generally more widely available and easier to get.

Minecraft Bone Meal

Bone meal is crafted from bones, which are dropped by skeletons. Bone meal is used to dye sheep and white wool white, though dying white wool white is, of course, pointless. Bone meal is also used as instant fertilizer. By right clicking most plants while holding bone meal, the plant will instantly grow to its final stage.

Minecraft Bones

Bones are dropped by skeletons and can be used in their raw state to tame Wolves. However, bones can be turned into Bone Meal which can be used as a fertilizer and as a dye.

Book and Quill

Minecraft Armor

Armor offers extra survivability in the form of armor points, which are shown in a separate bar above the health bar. Each armor point offers 8% damage reduction, up to a total of 80% damage reduction. There are 4 pieces of armor: Chestplate, legs, boots and helmets. Pumpkins can also be worn as a helmet, but they offer no damage reduction.

Minecraft Books

Books are crafted using 3 pieces of paper, but they can also be found in villages and strongholds, by destroying the bookshelves. Books are used to create bookshelves, book and quils and enchantment tables. Blaze powder also used in brewing to create a potion of strength or a potion of weakness.

Minecraft Boats

Boats are the fastest way to travel across water. They float and glide easily with the currents, though a player is also able to control it. By right clicking a boat the player will enter or exit the boat. Once the player is in the boat, the boat can be controlled by using the same movement controls as you use to walk.

Minecraft Bottle O'Enchanting

The bottle o’enchanting is a special splash potion which will unleash 3-11 experience points when broken. It can only be obtained in creative mode or through the use of mods. It’s impossible to brew the bottle o’enchanting. The bottle o’enchanting is mainly used in custom adventure maps as a way to grant experience without the need of killing large amounts of mobs.

Minecraft Bow

Bows are used to fire arrows from a great distance, which is perfect to deal with difficult mobs from a distance, like creepers and cave spiders. Bows are created using 3 sticks and 3 pieces of string. String is often harder to obtain early in game as it's dropped by spiders and dropped when cobwebs are broken.

Minecraft Bread

Bread is created from wheat and is one of the easier food items to farm fast and in large quantities. It can also be found in chests in dungeons, abandoned mineshafts and strongholds, as well as in the bonus chest.

Minecraft Bricks

Bricks are created by cooking clay in a furnace. Their only current purpose is to create brick blocks, a decorative building block.

Minecraft Buckets

Buckets are metal containers which can be used to hold lava, milk and water. A bucket is created using 3 iron ingots, but they can also be found in dungeon chests.

Minecraft Cactus Green

Cactus green is created by cooking cacti in a furnace. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool dark green.

Minecraft Charcoal

Charcoal is obtained by burning wood in a furnace, each piece of wood will yield only 1 lump of charcoal. Charcoal can be used for everything coal can be used for, which makes it a great alternative for coal in the early parts of the game. Despite having the same properties as coal and looking exactly the same, charcoal and coal cannot be stacked.

Minecraft Cyan Dye

Cyan dye is created by combining bone meal and lapis lazuli in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks light blue.

Minecraft Chicken (cooked)

Cooked chicken is obtained by cooking raw chicken in a furnace or by killing chickens with fire. A chicken will always drop 1 raw or cooked chicken.

Minecraft Chicken (raw)

Raw chicken is obtained by killing chickens, though killing them with fire will cause them to drop cooked chicken. Chickens will only drop 1 raw chicken upon death, but this is a guaranteed drop.

Minecraft Clay Balls

Clay balls can be obtained by digging a clay block, which is most commonly found underwater near the edges if land or in rivers and swamp biomes. A shovel is the best tool to harvest clay and each clay block will drop 4 clay balls. Clay balls are most commonly used to create bricks, but they can also be turned back into a clay block.

Minecraft Clock

Clocks are round objects that tell the time by showing the position of the sun and the moon. The sun and moon are displayed in the inner section of the clock and half of it is hidden to represent the horizon.

Minecraft Cocoa Beans

Cocoa beans are found in dungeon chests, but in the next update they can also be found in bonus chests and it'll be possible to grow them on jungle trees. They will also be random drop from jungle leaves when they decay or when they're destroyed. Cocoa beans are used to create cookies and it can be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks brown.

Minecraft Cocoa Plants

Cocoa plants are found on the logs of the small jungle trees, though only on naturally generated trees. Player grown trees will never generate cocoa plants. Cocoa plants will drop cocoa beans when they're destroyed, which can then be replanted on jungle logs.

Minecraft Compass

A compass is a handy tool that always points to your original spawn point, as long as the player is in the Overworld. A compass will not work in the End or the Nether, it will spin around randomly and becomes completely useless as a navigational tool. Like using a compass in the real world will tell you your location relative to magnetic north, the compass in minecraft will tell you your position relative to your spawn point.

Minecraft Dandelion Yellow

Dandelion yellow is created by crafting it from dandelions in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks yellow.

Minecraft Diamonds

Diamonds are obtained by mining diamond ore, but can also be found in chests in villages, strongholds and abandoned mineshafts. An iron or diamond pickaxe is required to mine diamond ore. They are one of the rarest items in minecraft, as diamond ore can only be found in the bottom 17 layers of the map.

Minecraft Wool Dyes

Dyes are used to colour wool blocks and wool on sheep, which can then be sheared off. The sheep will keep its colour forever or untill the player dyes it white again. Note that only white wool can be dyed in all colours, the other colours can not be turned into other colour. However, all sheep can be dyed in other colours.

Minecraft Eggs

Eggs are laid by chickens every 5-10 minutes. They can be used to create cakes but are also a fun projectile "weapon" By right-clicking while holding an egg, you will shoot the egg towards where you're aiming and the egg will break upon impact.

Minecraft Ender Pearl

Ender pearls are dropped by killing Endermen, though it's not a guaranteed drop. They're used to create eyes of Ender, which allows you to both find and activate the End portal.

Minecraft Eye of Ender

Eyes of Ender are created by combining an ender pearl with blaze podwder in a crafting interface. They are used to find and activate End portals.

Minecraft Fermented Spider Eye

Fermented spider eyes are created by combining sugar, a brown mushroom and a spider eye in any crafting interface. The positions of the items don't matter, so you can create them in your inventory's crafting interface.

Minecraft Iron Ingots

Iron ingots are obtained by smelting iron ore, killing iron golems and zombies, though it's a rare drop from zombies. They can also be found in chests in dungeons, strongholds, villages and abandoned mineshafts. Iron ingots are used to create a large variety of items, ranging from armour and tools to rails and pistons.

Minecraft Fire Charge

Fire charges are used as ammunition for dispensers, though they can also be used to set fire to blocks in the same way as flint and steel. They are created using gunpowder, blaze powder and coal or charcoal. This means fire charges are not usually obtained early in game as blaze powder requires access to the Nether.

Minecraft Fish (raw)

Raw fish is obtained by fishing in any water with a fishing rod, which means it's always availalbe as long as you have a fishing rod. A fishing rod requires 2 pieces of string, so it's often not available early in game. But keeping a fishing rod on you during your journey could provide you with some quick food, especially if you keep a water bucket with you, as fish can even be caught in a single block of water.

Minecraft Fish (cooked)

Cooked fish is obtained by cooking raw fish, which can be obtained by fishing with a fishing rod in any body of water, including just 1 block of water.

Minecraft Fishing Rod

Fishing rods are used to catch fish and are the only way to obtain fish in game. They're created using 2 pieces of string and 3 sticks, which means it's often not aquired early in game. A fishing rod has a durability of 65 uses, though some actions cause extra durability damage.

Minecraft Flint

Flint is obtained by digging up gravel, but is only dropped in 10% of the harvests. The other 90% will result in a gravel block. Flint is used to create arrows and flint and steel.

Minecraft Potion of Strength

A potion of strength will increase the damage you do to any mob or player and is one of the most used potions on pvp servers. There are 3 types of potions of strength, a 3 minute version, an 8 minute version and a 90 second version called potion of strength II.

Minecraft Flint and Steel

Flint and Steel is used to set fire to blocks, which is required to activate a Nether portal. It also allows you to activate TNT without the use of redstone power.

Minecraft Glowstone Dust

Glowstone dust is obtained by breaking glowstone blocks. Each block will drop 2-4 pieces of glowstone. Nothing is required to break these blocks and nothing will speed up this process.

Minecraft Gold Ingots

Gold ingots are obtained by either smelting gold ore, crafting 9 gold nuggets into a gold ingot or by killing zombie pigmen, though it's a rare drop. It can also be found in chests in dungeons, strongholds, villages and abandoned mineshafts.

Minecraft Gold Nugget

Gold nuggets are obtained by killing zombie pigman, though it's not a guaranteed drop, and by turning a gold ingot into 9 nuggets. They are used to create gold ingots, golden apples, and glistering melons, an ingredient for brewing.

Minecraft Golden Apple

Goldens apples are obtained by either crafting them using red apples and 8 gold nuggets, or by finding them in chests in dungeons and strongholds. They are unique as a food because they restore both your hunger bar and your health bar.

Minecraft Gray Dye

Gray dye is created by combining bonemeal with an ink sac in any crafting interface. It can then be used to paint sheep and white wool blocks gray. It can also be used to create light gray dye by combining it with bone meal.

Minecraft Gunpowder

Gunpowder is obtained by killing creepers and ghasts, but it can also be found in chests in dungeons. It is used to create TNT, fire charges and splash potions, by simply adding them to potions in a brewing stand.

Minecraft Hoe

A hoe is used to till grass and dirt blocks and turn it into farmland. It is crafted using 2 sticks and either 2 planks, cobblestone, iron ingots, gold ingots or diamonds. Unlike pickaxes and axes, hoes cannot be found in chests.

Minecraft Ink Sacs

Ink sacs are obtained by killing squids, which will drop 1-3 ink sacs. They are used to create book and quils and can be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks black. Ink sacs can also be used to create gray and light gray dye by combining it with 1 or 2 bonemeals.

Minecraft Lava bucket

Lava buckets are obtained by filling a bucket with lava, which is done by right-clicking a lava source block. Clicking flowing lava will not fill the bucket. Lava buckets can be used in various ways, though most players only use them as a weapon or to create traps.

Minecraft Leather

Leather is obtained by killing cows and mooshrooms, which both drop 0-2 pieces of leather. It is currently only used to create leather armour, which is the weakest type of armour.

Minecraft Lapis Lazuli

Lapis lazuli is obtained by mining lapis lazuli ore, which will yield 4-8 lapis shards. It can also be obtained by smelting a lapis lazuli ore block, but this requires a silk touch enchanted pickaxe and is a complete waste, as simply mining it will yield much more shards.

Minecraft Light Gray Dye

Light Gray Dye is created by either combining gray dye with bone meal or an ink sac with 2 bone meals in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks light gray.

Minecraft Magma Cream

Magma cream is created by combining a slimeball and blaze powder in any crafting interface. It is also dropped by magma cubes.

Minecraft Map

Maps are a great way to map out an area and its most prominent features. They are created using 8 pieces of paper and a compass.

Minecraft Melon Slices

Melon slices are obtained by breaking melon blocks, which are grown from melon seeds. A melon block will drop 3-7 melon slices. They are used to create more melon seeds, melon blocks, and glistering melons, as well as a source of food.

Minecraft Melon Seeds

Melon seeds can only be obtained by crafting a melon slice into melon seeds, harvesting a melon stalk or by finding the melon seeds in chests in abandoned mineshafts.

Minecraft Milk

Milk is obtained by right clicking a cow while holding an empty bucket. While milk is edible, it doesn't restore your hunger or health bar. Instead, milk will stop any effects on the player, like potion effects and food poisoning. Both negative and positive effects of potions will be cancelled.

Minecraft Lime Dye

Lime dye is created by combining cactus green and bone meal in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks lime.

Minecraft Magenta Dye

Magenta dye is created by combining either purple and pink dye or lapis lazuli, bone meal and 2 rose reds or pink dye, rose red and lapis lazuli in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks magenta.

Minecraft Mundane Potion

Mundane potions are glass water bottles with a secondary ingredient added to them. This is a mistake some players make, as this step can only lead to potions of weakness.

Minecraft Mushroom Stew

Mushroom stew is created by combining a red mushroom, a brown mushroom and a bowl in any crafting interface. This means you can also craft mushroom stew in your inventory's crafting interface while you're traveling. Mushroom stew can also be obtained by right clicking a mooshroom while holding a bowl.

Minecraft Music Discs

Music discs are rare items which will play a song when they're used on jukeboxes. There are currently 10 discs which you can obtain in game and an 11th disc which can only be obtained in creative mode or by using mods.

Minecraft Paintings

Paintings are decorational items which can be placed on the sides of most blocks. There are currently 26 paintings in various sizes, most of these are based on original paintings by Kristoffer Zetterstrand. However, the minecraft versions have been lowered in resolution to fit in minecraft.

Minecraft Minecarts

Minecarts are vehicles that can be ridden when they're placed on rails. While it's possible to ride minecarts when they drive off of the rails, the speed at which they move is very slow.

Minecraft Minecarts with Chest

Minecarts with chests allow you to store and transport goods in a mobile chest. They're mainly used by people digging far underground, as you can simply use a powered minecart to push a long train of minecarts with chests up to the surface without having to go there yourself.

Minecraft Powered Minecarts

Powered minecarts are used to push other minecarts at a constant speed of about 3,5 blocks per second. They require a piece of charcoal or coal to be powered, which will last for 3 minutes. It's possible to keep adding (char)coal, which will add 3 minutes to the time it's powered per coal or charcoal piece.

Minecraft Orange Dye

Orange dye is created by combining rose red and dandelion yellow in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks orange.

Minecraft Paper

Paper is created from sugar cane, which can be found on grass, dirt and san blocks directly next to water in any biome, though it often breaks in snow biomes when the water freezes.

Minecraft Porkchop (raw)

Porkchop is obtained by killing pigs, though killing pigs with fire will cause them to drop cooked porkchops. A pig will drop 0-2 cooked or uncooked porkchops depending on how it died.

Minecraft Pink Dye

Pink dye is created by combining rose red and bone meal in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks pink. It can also be used to create magenta dye by combining it with purple dye in any crafting interface.

Minecraft Porkchop (cooked)

Cooked porkchop is obtained by cooking raw porkchops or by killing pigs with fire. Pigs will drop 0-2 pieces of cooked or uncooked porkchops, depending on how they died.

Minecraft Potion of Fire Resistance

A potion of fire resistance will allow you to walk through fire and swim through lava without getting hurt. This potion is used a lot on pvp servers as players usually carry a lava bucket to try to burn a player. There are 2 types of potions of fire resistance, a 3 minute version and an 8 minute version.

Minecraft Potion of Harming

A potion of harming will instantly damage the player. Unlike potions of poison, a potion of harming can kill the player. There are 2 types of potions of harming: potion of harming and potion of harming II. Potion of harming will cause 1.5 hearts of damage and potion of harming II will cause 3 hearts of damage.

Minecraft Potion of Healing

A potion of healing will instantly heal you, which is great as a last resort or to quickly heal up between battles, but drinking a potion will leave you open to attacks. There are 2 types of potions of healing: potion of healing and potion of healing II. Potion of healing will heal 3 hearts, potion of healing II will heal 6 hearts.

Minecraft Potion of Poison

A potion of poison will, of course, poison the player and cause damage over time untill the player reaches half a heart of health. The effect of the potion will remain untill its time runs out, so when the player gains health the poison will take effect again, untill the player reaches half a heart again.

Minecraft Potion of Regeneration

Potions of regeneration will regenerate your health over time. They're a great way to save yourself in a battle, which is why they're widely used on pvp servers. There are 3 types of potions of regenration, a 45 second version, a 2 minute version and a 22 second version called potion of regeneration II.

Minecraft Potion of Swiftness

Potions of swiftness increase the movement of a player for a time, which can greatly increase the travel time and speed without depleting your hunger bar faster than normal. It also allows you to jump further due to your speed.

Minecraft Potion of Weakness

Potions of weakness will reduce your damage output. A potion of weakness and a potion of strength will cancel out part of their effects, depending on the strength of the potions.

Minecraft Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds can only be obtained by crafting a pumpkin into seeds, by harvesting a pumpkin stalk or by finding the seeds in chests in abandoned mineshafts. Unlike melons, pumpkins can sometimes be found in small patches in any land biome.

Minecraft Rotten flesh

Rotten flesh is obtained by killing zombies and zombie pigmen. It can be eaten and will restore 2 hunger bar slots and 0.8 hunger satisfaction. There's an 80% chance you'll get food poisoning, which will deplete your hunger bar (by 2 bars) and hunger satisfaction. However, food poisoning doesn't stack, so you can eat several pieces of rotten meat to compensate for the loss of food poisoning.

Minecraft Saddle

Saddles can be placed on pigs which allows you to ride the pig, much like a minecart. However, the movement of pigs cannot be controlled which makes them rather useless as a means of transportation.

Minecraft Seeds

Seeds are obtained by either destroying wheat, tall grass or ferns. Wheat in it's last growth stage will drop the most seeds (0-3), while the others growth stages, as well as tall grass and ferns, only have a chance of dropping 1. Seeds are used to farm wheat, which is used to make food and breed animals.

Minecraft Shears

Shears are great for harvesting certain blocks which could otherwise not be obtained. They are used to shear sheep, which will drop 1-3 wool blocks instead of just 1 from being killed. Blocks of wool are also broken faster with shears, so getting rid of a wool floor is best done with shears.

Minecraft Slimeballs

Slimeballs are dropped by slimes, which makes slimeballs one of the rarest items in game. They used to create sticky pistons and magma cream, an ingredient for brewing.

Minecraft Spades

Spades are used to increase the speed at which you can dig up blocks like grass, sand and snow. They are created using 2 sticks and either 1 wooden plank, cobblestone, iron ingot, gold ingot or diamond. Zombies will also sometimes drop iron spades.

Minecraft Spawn Eggs

Spawn eggs are creative mode only items which allow a player to spawn in almost any mob by right clicking a block while holding the egg. Spawn eggs cannot be thrown, though the can be placed in dispensers which will drop the eggs rather than shoot them.

Minecraft Spider Eyes

Spider eyes are obtained by killing spiders and cave spiders, but the spiders have to be killed by the player for the eyes to drop. They can be used as food, as an ingredient for brewing and they can be crafted into fermented spider eyes, which is also an ingredient for brewing.

Minecraft Purple Dye

Purple dye is created by combining rose red and lapis lazuli in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks purple. It can also be used to create magenta dye by combining it with pink dye in any crafting interface.

Minecraft Rose Red

Rose red is created by crafting it using roses in any crafting interface. It can then be used to dye sheep and white wool blocks red. Rose red can also be used to create orange, pink and purple dye by combining it with bone meal, dandelion yellow or lapis lazuli in any crafting interface.

Minecraft Splash Mundane Potion

Splash mundane potions are mundane potions with gunpowder added to them. Like its normal counter part, this splash potion can only be turned in a splash potion of weakness. To create a splash potion of weakness from a splash mundane potion, you have to add a fermented spider eye. It's not possible to create a splash mundane potion by adding redstone to a water bottle and then adding gunpowder to this potion.

Minecraft Splash Potion of Fire Resistance

A splash potion of fire resistance will allow you to walk through fire and swim through lava without getting hurt. It's the same as it's normal counter part, but throwable.

Minecraft Strongholds

Strongholds are large, underground structures and can be seen as a long abandoned castle. The stronghold contains many different rooms, ranging from simple empty rooms, to prisons and libraries. The stronghold also contains an End portal, which is guarded by a silver fish spawner. These silverfish will enter cobblestone, stone and all stone brick blocks around them. Those stones will release the silverfish when broken, which may then call all the other silverfish in the surrounding area, which could lead to a large swarm of these silverfish you'll have to deal with.

Minecraft Wheat

Wheat only occurs naturally in villages, which can easily be stolen, but will not regrow. Wheat can also be grown by a player by planting seeds on farmland. Seeds are easily obtainable. You could either destroy tall grass, which has a chance of dropping seeds or you could harvest wheat, which drops seeds in any stage. But, wheat will only drop wheat when harvested in it's final stage, it can also drop more seeds in this stage, up to 3 per wheat.

Minecraft Saplings

There are 4 types of saplings, oak, birch, pine and jungle. Saplings are a rare drop from destroyed or decayed leaf blocks. The leaf blocks will only drop from leaves of the corresponding tree.

Minecraft Sugar Cane

Sugar cane can be found in every biome, but can only be found on dirt, grass or sand which is directly next to water.This means it's rarely found in snow biomes, as water is often frozen here, which causes the sugar cane to pop out of the ground.

Minecraft Soulsand

Soul sand is a type of sand only found in the Nether. It has a unique ability that causes players and mobs to sink slightly when they walk on it. It will also slow players and mobs down.

Minecraft Portal Block

Portal blocks are created when a Nether portal is activated. Any player standing in it for long enough will be teleported to and from the Nether. Portal blocks cannot be obtained in survival mode, but it is possible to get them in creative mode. To get the portal block, point towards one and click your mouse's scroll button.

Minecraft Obsidian

Obisidian can often be found deep underground, as it's created when water hits a lava source block. If water hits a lava flow, that lava will turn into cobblestone. Obisidian occurs naturally in the End, in which it's created as huge pillars with Ender crystals on top of it. Obsidian can also be found in chests in the blacksmiths of villages.

Minecraft Netherrack

Netherrack makes up most of the Nether and is quite fragile. It only requires a wooden pickaxe to mine and is mined very fast. A diamond pickaxe will mine it almost instantly, but so will stone and iron pickaxes, which are recommended over diamond pickaxes to avoid wasting all its durability.

Minecraft Nether Warts

Nether warts grow naturally inside Nether fortresses. They're always found in 2 small patches on either side of stairs. They can only be placed on soul sand and will only grow in the Nether, though they can be planted in the Overworld and the End.

Minecraft Mycelium

Mecylium is a block unique to the rare mushroom biomes and behaves a lot like grass blocks. Harvesting mycelium is impossible, unless you have a silk touch enchantment. Shovels will dig up mycelium the fastest, resulting in a dirt block. Unlike grass, mycelium cannot be turned into farmland.

Minecraft Monster Spawners

Monster spawners are found in dungeons, strongholds, abandoned mineshafts and nether fortresses. Monster spawners will also appear in peaceful mode, but they will not spawn any mobs, though sometimes a small puff of smoke can be seen when a monster was suposed to spawn. They cannot be picked up when mined, even if you use the silk touch enchantment, so you'll have to use a mod, codes or a map editor to get mob spawners. However, you can click a spawner with your scroll button in creative mode, which will replace the current hotbar item with a mob spawner.

Minecraft Lily Pads

Lily pads are unique to swamp biomes, but can be found in abundance. They grow on top of water blocks and flowing water blocks. They can be walked on, which can be useful to quickly cross rivers without having to build a bridge. Lily pads can be harvested by destroying them with anything, they're always instantly destroyed, even when you use your hands. They can then be placed by the player, but only on water and flowing water. The direction the lily pad faces depends on the block it's placed on (the coordinates), this cannot be changed, no matter how many times you replace it.

Minecraft Lapis Lazuli Ore

Lapis lazuli ore is one of the harder to find ores, it's often found while looking for diamonds. Many players mistake lapis lazuli ore for diamond ore at first glance, which has dissapointed and annoyed them many times over. Lapis lazuli can be found in the bottom 30 layers, with the exception of the bottom 2 bedrock layers, but is annoyingly more common below layer 17, which is where diamond ore can be found.

Minecraft Iron Ore

Iron ore is the most common ore after coal. It can be found at all altitudes below sea level. Due to the large amounts of iron ore available, iron ore is often ignored by players once they've gathered a few stacks. Mining iron ore effectively requires at least a stone pickaxe. Any other tool will simply destroy the block.

Minecraft Huge Mushroom

Huge brown mushrooms are basically large, 7x7, platforms without corners, made out of huge brown mushroom blocks on top of a stalk, which varies between 5, 6 and 7 blocks in height. Huge brown mushrooms are often used to create platforms, sometimes on top of each other. They offer a safe hiding space, if you manage to get on top of it and they're used to farm brown mushrooms.

Minecraft Gold Ore

Gold ore is relatively rare to find and can only be found in the bottom 32 layers, with the exception of the bottom 2 bedrock layers. Unlike most other ore blocks, mining gold ore will yield the ore block itself. This block can then be smelted into a golden ingot. Gold ore can be found in veins of 1-9 blocks, though sometimes several veins can be directly next to each other, making it look like a bigger vein. A vein of 1 block is unusual and is the result of a landmark, like a cavern or dungeon, being generated in place of the other ore blocks.

Minecraft Glowstone

Glowstone is a block only found in the Nether, where it can be found in groups of about 10-25, though larger and smaller is possible. Glowstone always emits a light of light level 15, which is 1 higher than that of torches. Glowstone can be broken with anything and will drop 2-4 pieces of glowstone dust.

Minecraft End Stone

End stone makes up the surface of the island in the End and supports both the player and the endermen, who'd otherwise fall into the void. End stone requires at least a wooden pickaxe to be mined without destroying the block, though a diamond pickaxe is advised for its speed.

Minecraft End Portal Frame

End portal frames make up the End portal and only occur naturally in the last room of Strongholds. They cannot be obtained in survival mode. In creative mode they can only be obtained by clicking on a portal frame with the scroll button of your mouse, which replaces the current selected item on your hotbar. This is a terribly slow method of getting it, as you first have to find it. Using mods provides a much faster method to get them.

Minecraft End Portal Block

End portal blocks are created when an End portal is activated. Any player standing in it will be teleported immediately to the End, there is no waiting time like in Nether portals.

Minecraft Enchantment Tables

Enchantment tables allow you to use your xp levels to add a special ability to your weapons, tools and armour. Enchanted items have a glowing effect around them, similar to that of a golden apple or splash potion.

Minecraft Dragon Egg

The dragon egg is an item dropped by the Ender Dragon.This means there's only 1 egg per map, unless you use mods or codes. Once the Ender dragon is defeated, it slowly starts to disolve in the air after which it explodes into 20.000 xp worth of orbs. On the ground beneath it, a portal is created with the Egg on top of a pilar in the middle. Like most other blocks, dragon eggs will be destroyed if an Ender dragon flies through it, though this could only happen if you spawn in more dragons.

Minecraft Diamond Ore

Diamond ore is the rarest and most sought after ore in minecraft, only found in the bottom 17 layers, with the exception of the bottom bedrock layers. Diamond ore can be found in veins of 1-10 blocks, but a vein of just 1 block is quite unusual and is only created when an adjacent diamond ore is removed when a landmark, like a cavern or abandoned mineshaft, is generated in its place. Diamond ore can only be mined with an iron or diamond pickaxe, using anything else will simply destroy the block and won't drop a diamond.

Minecraft Cactus

Cacti can be found in abundance in desert biomes, but they sometimes spawn on beaches. They grow up to 3 blocks high, though their size can be increased by placing more cactus blocks on top of it. Cactus blocks will harm players and mobs that come into contact with it, dealing half a heart of damage, every half a second. This makes it very useful for traps, however, cacti can destroy any dropped item that touches it, so careful planning is key when you're after resources.

Minecraft Brewing Stand

Brewing stands are obviously used in brewing and allow up to 3 potions to be made or altered at once. Brewing stands are created using 3 cobblestone blocks and a blaze rod, making it one of the harder to obtain blocks in game. To break the brewing stand without destroying it, a pickaxe has to be used.

Minecraft Pumpkins

Pumpkins can be found in small groups in most biomes. They do not spread like mushrooms, making their numbers quite limited. A pumpkin can be grown from pumpkin seeds, aquired from either harvesting mature pumpkin stalks, crafting pumpkins into seeds or from chests in abandoned mineshafts. Destroying mature pumpkin stalks can drop up to 3 pumpkin seeds, earlier stages have a chance to drop a seed, but it's usually better to wait. A pumpkin will always be carved, even if it's grown yourself.

Minecraft Melons

Melons can be grown from melon seeds, found in chests in abandoned mineshafts, but don't otherwise occur in minecraft. Destroying mature melon stalks will drop up to 3 melon seeds, earlier stages have a chance to drop a seed, but it's usually better to wait. Harvesting a melon block will splice it into 3-7 melon slices, which can be used to either create new seeds, create a melon block (requires 9 slices) or they can be eaten, restoring 1 food bar per slice.

Minecraft Stairs

Stairs allow a player to go up or down a block without having to jump, making the transition between elevations much smoother. There are 5 types of stairs, stone brick, brick, nether brick, cobblestone, and wood. Wooden stairs can be created with all 4 colored planks in any combination, none of them will have any effect on the outcome, however.

Minecraft Decorated Stone Bricks

Decorated stone bricks are a variant of the normal stone bricks, but they're currently unavailable in survival. The other 3 types of stone brick are used in strongholds, but the decorated stone brick was never used. The only way to obtain them is by using creative mode or mods. Like the other stone bricks, decorated stone bricks can be used to create stone brick slabs and stairs.

Minecraft Netherbrick Stairs

Netherbrick stairs are part of Nether fortresses in which they're only used as stairs, despite their decorative potential. They can easily be mined with a pickaxe. Diamond pickaxes are recommended for their speed, as even an iron pickaxe will take a while to break this block. Netherbrick stairs can also be created by using 6 netherbricks.

Minecraft Nether Brick

Nether brick is the main block used in Nether fortresses and can only be obtained by mining them with a pickaxe. A minimum of a wooden pickaxe is required. Diamond pickaxes are recommended for their speed, as even an iron pickaxe will take a while to break this block. Like other stone blocks, nether brick has a blast resistance of 30, which means they cannot be destroyed by the ghast's fireballs.

Minecraft Redstone Dust

Redstone dust can be placed on the ground to create a redstone wire which can transfer power from any power supplier, like levers and pressure plate. Redstone is also used as an ingredient in brewing. Adding redstone to an existing potion will increase the duration of the potion's effect. Redstone is also used in various crafting recipes, found at the bottom of this article.

Minecraft Redstone Torches

Redstone torches are a potentially infinite source of power, which can be used to power mechanisms. They're created with redstone dust and a stick, though unlike normal torches, only 1 redstone torch is crafted per stick and redstone dust. Redstone torches emit a dim, red light. Its light level is 7, which means it will not melt ice and snow, but will allow monsters to spawn. Redstone torches are often only used for their light as decoration, rather than genuine light.

Minecraft Torches

Torches are the main source of light in dark places and at night. They emit a light of level 14, which is 1 level below sunlight. Torches can be found in abandoned mineshafts, villages and strongholds. They're also created as part of the portal spawned when the Ender dragon dies. Torches are created using sticks and coal or charcoal, each set will create 4 torches. Torches can then be used with pumpkins to create jack-o-lanterns.

Minecraft Crafting Tables

Crafting tables are a must have in minecraft. It allows you to create blocks and items beyond those you can create with the 2x2 crafting grid in your inventory. Crafting tables are created with 4 planks, any color and any combination can be used. They can also be found in villages. They can be broken by hand, but axes are faster.

Minecraft Cauldrons

Cauldrons are a great decoration block, though they can be used in brewing. They can be filled using a bucket of water, which can then be used to fill 3 bottles of water. This is a rather inefficient method however, as simply clicking a water source block with empty bottles allows for an infinite number of bottles to be filled.

Minecraft Beds

Beds are, of course, used to sleep in. They can only be slept in at night and will wake you up again in the morning. This is a great way to safely skip the night. If you go to sleep while it's raining or snowing, the rain or snow will have stopped in the morning.

Minecraft Wooden Planks

There are 4 differently coloured planks, each belonging to a different tree type. It is obtained by either crafting it from a log, which can be found in almost any biome. It can also be found in abandoned mine shafts, villages and stronghold, though these planks are always oak. Wooden planks are mainly used to build with, due to its abundance and renewability.

Minecraft Slabs

Slabs are half blocks, created by 3 of their corresponding normal blocks. There are 6 types of slabs, stone, cobblestone, sandstone, stone brick, brick and wood. The wood versions come in 4 colours, depending on the colour of the wooden planks used to create it. There is one more slab, but it can only be obtained through inventory edits. It looks like the stone brick slabs without the dark grey lines on the sides. None of the slabs are flammable.

Minecraft Jack-o-lanterns

Jack-o-lanterns are pumpkins that emit light and are created by placing a pumpkin above a torch in a crafting interface. They're not found naturally in minecraft. Jack-o-lanterns emit a light level of 15 from all sides, so the face side cane asily be hidden. This makes them a lot more versatile than torches, as torches emit a light level of 14, and torches can break very easily.

Minecraft Iron Bars

Iron bars serve both as fences and as a type if window, usually prison bars. Iron bars can be found in villages and strongholds, but can also crafted by players using 6 iron ingots. Iron bars behave just like glass panes. If an iron bar is placed without any other block next to it, the bars will look like a cross.

Minecraft Brick Block

Brick is one of the lesser used blocks in minecraft and doesn't occur naturally anywhere. It's made with 4 clay bricks, which makes it a little harder to find than most blocks. Brick can be used to create brick slabs and stairs. A pickaxe has to be used to recover this block, using anything else will destroy it, along with the 4 clay bricks used to create it.

Minecraft Wood

Wood, or logs, can be found as 4 different types, birch, oak, pine and jungle wood. Each are different in colour and will produce different coloured wooden planks. Wood can be found in every biome, with the exception of desert biomes, but are significantly harder to find in tundra and plains biomes.

Minecraft Wool

Wool is a block obtained by shearing sheep. Sheep are naturally either white, brown, black, light gray, gray or pink, though white is the most common colour. But, wool can be painted into other colours, there are 16 different colours, including white. It's possible to paint the sheep, making the coloured wool renewable, however, it's only possible to paint white wool blocks. Coloured wool cannot be changed back to white. However, it is possible to dye sheep white again by using bonemeal on them.

Minecraft Flowers

Flowers can be found on dirt and grass blocks all over minecraft, including in snow biomes, just like tall grass and ferns. Flowers cannot be farmed in the way you'd farm wheat or mushrooms. The only way to create more flowers is by using bonemeal on grass, which will grow both types of flowers and a lot of tall grass on and around that block.

Minecraft Stone

Stone, which is often referred to as default stone, smooth stone, natural stone, and normal stone, is the most occurring block, besides air, in the minecraft world. Stone can be found naturally in all levels in which blocks are spawned. It is often at least 4-6 layers deep, covered by sand, dirt and/or grass, but the exposed rock is quite common in the form of cliffs, basins, and mountain sides.

Minecraft Mossy Stone Brick

Mossy stone bricks are a different type of stone bricks, found only in strongholds. They cannot be crafted. They serve no real purpose besides their aesthetics.

Minecraft Leaf Blocks

Leaves are obviously part of trees, as well as bushes in jungle biomes. There are 4 different types of leave, each belonging to a corresponding type of tree. Besides the different leaf types, the colours can also change depending on the biome they're in. This is due to the colour filters and will not affect the leaves when harvested. This often leads to multi coloured trees on the borders of different biomes.

Minecraft Stone Bricks

Stone bricks are part of Strongholds and only found naturally in these structures. Unlike all its counterparts, these blocks can be crafted by placing 4 stone blocks in a square in any crafting interface. They can be mined with any pickaxe. Mining it with anything else will destroy the block.

Minecraft Zombies

Zombies are one of the easiest mobs to kill and defend yourself against in minecraft. They closely resemble the default player skin, though, of course, dead and rotten.

Minecraft Glistering Melon

Glistering melons are created by combining a gold nugget with a melon slice in any crafting interface. They cannot be eaten, but are used to create potions of healing or a potion of weakness.

Minecraft Ghast Tear

Ghast tears are dropped by killing ghasts and are used to create potions of regeneration in brewing. They will only drop 1 tear, but it's not a guaranteed drop.

Minecraft Glass Bottle

Glass bottles are used in brewing and serve as a first step to creating a potion. They have to be filled with water by right clicking either a water source block or a cauldron with water. Note that glass bottles can stack, but water bottles can't.

Minecraft Water

Water makes up a large part of the map in the Overworld and can be found in every biome on almost all altitudes. In addition to lakes, rivers, oceans and other natural landmarks, water can also be found in desert wells and village wells. Water cannot be found in the Nether or the End. Placing it in the end will simply evaporate it.

Minecraft Vines

Vines grow naturally on trees in swamp and jungle biomes. They can also be found in caves and small ravines, usually in jungle biomes. Vines will continue to grow untill they're blocked by another block. Vines can also grow on the sides of other blocks, which are then climbable, like ladders, but don't have a collision box that allows you to stand on them.

Minecraft Trapdoors

Trapdoors are 1 block wide, horizontal doors which can be attached to the side of blocks. They're often used to cover ladder holes. Trapdoors can be powered with redstone, though this is quite uncommon as simply clicking them is often easier and way more compact.

Minecraft Tall Grass

Tall grass can be found on grass blocks in every land biome, except in deserts and snow biomes. Tall grass can be placed on dirt and farmland. It's widely available and serves as the main method to get wheat seeds, which are obtained by destroying the block with anything. It's only other purpose is its aesthetics, though most players only use flowers as decorative gardens.

Minecraft Sponge

Sponges were once part of the game and had the ability to absorb water within 5 blocks from it, in all directions. They were implemented to stop the flow of water, which didn't have the limited flow properties it has today. The sponges ability to absorb water were often used to clear large parts of a lake, which made it very easy to build an underwater base. Removing the sponges would let the water flow again.

Minecraft Snow Blocks

Snow blocks don't occur naturally in the world, but are created by placing 4 snowballs in a square shape in any crafting interface.

Minecraft Smooth Sandstone

Smooth stand is a different variant of sandstone, without the cracked surface normal sandstone hs. Smooth sandstone can be created by placing 4 pieces of any type of sandstone in a 2x2 square shape, in any crafting interface.

Minecraft Signs

Signs allow you to write short messages, instructions or rules on them. Due to the small space, several signs are often used to write longer messages. Signs are created using 6 wooden planks and a stick. You can use any combination of wood colours, though this will not change the result, signs will always look the same. Signs can be broken without the use of tools, but axes are much faster.

Minecraft Sandstone

Sandstone is found in desert biomes, usually in the 1-3 layers under the sand layers. Sandstone is also used for desert wells, which are random wells found in desert biomes. To obtain a sandstone block, a pickaxe has to be used. Destroying it with anything else will completely destroy the block.

Minecraft Sand

Sand covers almost everything in desert biomes, but is also used for beaches. Sand is usually 3-4 layers thick and often supported by 1-3 layers of sandstone. Harvesting sand will always drop a sand block. Shovels are the fastest tool, but even using your hands is quite fast. Diamond shovels are often considered a waste, especially when a player doesn't have many diamonds to spare. Iron shovels are very fast and more easily available. Sand can be smelted into glass blocks and is used to create sandstone and TNT. Sandstone cannot be turned into sand.

Minecraft Redstone Repeaters

Redstone repeaters can extend a power supply beyond 15 blocks, as well as add a delay and act as a one way circuit (diode). A repeater can only receive power from 1 side, which it then repeats and sends out of the 'front'. The repeating process is basically a recharging mechanism. Redstone power can only travel up to 15 blocks away from its source. Repeaters will act as a redstone source when it receives power, sending a fresh power supply out of the other end which can travel another 15 blocks.

Minecraft Redstone Ore

Redstone ore is quite rare, found only in the bottom 16 layers of the map, with the exception of the bottom 2 bedrock layers. When anything falls or moves on Redstone ore, with the exception of dropped items, or when a player clicks on it, the Redstone ore will emit a dim light for a short time. Players sometimes use this in adventure maps, in which players have to find their way through a dark room, with their only light source being these blocks.

Minecraft Redstone lamps

Redstone lamps are basically a togglable glowstone block which only emits light when powered. When powered it gives off light at light level 15, the same as glowstone and 1 higher than torches. Redstone lamps are created using 4 pieces of redstone and a glowstone block. They can be broken very quickly without any tools and will always drop a lamp.

Minecraft Rails

Rails are blocks on which minecarts can travel, which could greatly decrease travel time if used well. Rails can be found in large number in abandoned mineshafts, but they can also be created with 6 iron ingots and a stick, which will create 16 rails. There are 2 other types of rails, detector rails and powered rails, each have their own function.

Minecraft Pressure Plates

Pressure plates are switches activated when a certain weight is put on it. The pressure plate will then send power to the blocks under and next to it, which will activate anything it's connected to, for as long as the plate is pushed down. Pressure plates are often used to open iron doors, however, mobs can activate the plates as well, which could welcome unwanted guests into your house.

Minecraft Powered rails

Powered rails will slow down or speed up all minecart types that ride over it. If the rails are powered, it will speed up the minecart, if it's turned off, it will slow the minecart down. Powered rails are crafted using 6 gold ingots, a stick and a piece of redstone dust.

Minecraft Pistons

Pistons are blocks with an extendable arm, which is either retracted or extended. A piston arm will extend when it receives power, either trough redstone power or other switches, which will cause the arm to push most blocks in front of it away. The sticky piston is like the normal piston, but it will pull blocks when it retracts. Note that this only happens when it retracts, the blocks aren't actually attached to it, so it will not keep sand and gravel floating above air.

Minecraft Note Blocks

Note blocks play a single note when they're clicked or activated by red power or other switches. This note can be changed by the player. Right clicking it will change the pitch. You can change it up to 2 octaves (24 clicks) after which it'll reset itself.

Minecraft Netherbrick Fences

Netherbrick fences are part of Nether fortresses in which they're used as gates and long window bars. They can easily be mined with any pickaxe. Diamond pickaxes are recommended for their speed, as even an iron pickaxe will take a while to break this block. Netherbrick fences can also be created by using 6 netherbricks, which create 6 fences.

Minecraft Mossy Cobblestone

Mossy cobblestone is a variety of cobblestone. As the name implies, mossy cobblestone is cobblestone with moss growing on it. This stone can only be found in dungeons, making it quite rare and difficult to find.

Minecraft Levers

Levers are a type of switch that will either turn something on or off and will continue to do so untill toggled again. Pulling a lever will cause it to send a constant pulse through the block it's attached to. Levers are created using a stick and cobblestone.

Minecraft Lava

Lava is the most dangerous and probably most hated block in minecraft, and one of the leading causes of death and frustration. Lava occurs mostly underground in the Overworld, but can also be found on and above the surface in the form of pools and lava falls. It can also be found in blacksmith houses in villages. Lava is found everywhere in the Nether, both as massive pools and large lava falls flowing from even the ceilings.

Minecraft Ladders

Ladders are used to climb blocks vertically without having to jump. They can be found in Strongholds and villages, but they can also be created using 7 sticks. They can easily be broken without any tools, though removing the block they're attached to will cause them to drop as well, which can often be faster than breaking the ladder.

Minecraft Jukebox

Jukeboxes are used to play music discs obtained through chests in dungeons or by getting a skeleton to kill a creeper. There are 11 different music discs, though only 1 can be played at a time. Jukeboxes are created using 8 planks and a diamond.

Minecraft Ice

Ice is created in any snow biome, but only on exposed water. Trees or other blocks haning above water will prevent it from turning into ice. Any exposed water in snow biomes will eventually turn into ice, this process happens faster when it snows.

Minecraft Gravel

Gravel is found naturally both in the Overworld and the Nether. In the Overworld, gravel is usually found underground, near beaches and in caves, as well as in villages, in which it's used as roads. In the Nether, gravel is usually found in small patches, often exposed on the surface.

Minecraft Grass Blocks

Grass blocks cover almost all the land in all land biomes, with the exception of deserts. The colour of the grass block will depend on the biome it's placed in and cannot be changed. When grass is covered with snow, the grass texture on this block will be white.

Minecraft Glass Panes

Glass panes are thin sheets of glass. They can be created with normal glass, but can also be found in villages. However, they cannot be picked up, even when using a tool with the silk touch enchantment. If a glass pane is placed on its own, without any other blocks next to it, the glass pane will look like a cross.

Minecraft Glass

Glass is a transparent, decorational block. Glass allows light to shine through, which makes it useful as windows, greenhouses and various decorational purposes, like safe lava flows. Glass is crafted by smelting sand in a furnace, it cannot be found naturally in game. It's impossible to harvest glass blocks, unless you use a tool with the silk touch enchantment.

Minecraft Gears

Gears were once part of the game code and available through inventory edits. They had no use and were indestructible. They could only be placed on the sides of blocks, but were quite buggy as they weren't meant to be used yet.

Minecraft Locked Chests

These chests were once part of the game and were used as an April fools joke. The chests would lure players towards it, especially at night as it emits a light level of 15, 1 higher than that of torches. When a player tried to open the chest, a message would pop up which would lead them to a temporary story which "sold" fake items. There were 8 fake items you could "buy", ranging from a simple crate key of $3 to a "Response from Support" costing $494.

Minecraft Fire

Fire is an animated block and can only be found naturally in the Nether. Fire can also be created when a player uses flint and steel or a fire charge, when lava or fire burns surrounding flammable objects, when lightning strikes, when Blazes attack and when an explosion occurs, like the attack of a Ghast or an exploding bed.

Minecraft Fern

Ferns spawn on grass block, but can only be found in jungle biomes. Destroying ferns will sometimes drop seeds. These blocks are not solid, so players and mobs can walk through them. They serve no use, other than their aesthetics. They can be harvested by using shears on them.

Minecraft Fences

Fences form a great border, both as a defence and as decoration. They look and act as a 1 block high block, but are counted as 1.5 block high when a player or mob comes into contact with it, which makes it impossible for players and most mobs to jump over it. Spiders can climb over fences and ghasts and blazes will simply fly over them. Projectile firing mobs and players can shoot over them, so you're not completely safe.

Minecraft Fence Gates

Fence gates are small doors, usually used in combination with fences, allowing easy access to the other side of fences without having to place a big door next to it. Fences can be activated with redstone or other switches, or by simply clicking on it, like you would on a wooden door. A powered fence gate will open, when the power is turned off, the gate will close again.

Minecraft Farmland

Farmland is obviously used to plant seeds on. Currently there are only 3 types of seeds, normal (wheat), pumpkin and melon seeds.

Minecraft Doors

Doors are openable blocks which allow you to prevent mobs from entering your base, while still allowing you to go in and out. There are 2 types of doors, wooden and iron. Besides crafting them, wooden doors can be found in villages and both wooden and iron doors can be found in strongholds. Your position matters when placing doors. They're always placed facing you and they're always in a closed position.

Minecraft Dispensers

Dispensers are blocks which will drop or shoot an item when it receives power. It will only shoot once per power input, so a repeating input will have to be created to make it shoot more than once without the player's input. Dispensers are created using 7 cobblestone, 1 redstone dust and 1 bow, but any durability loss on the bow will make the bow unusable for dispenser creation. Even though enchanted bows can be used, the dispenser will not take over this enchantment, so you'll only waste your enchantment.

Minecraft Dirt Slabs

Dirt slabs were the first version of slabs and were only used in a testing phase of minecraft. The test failed as the dirt slabs replaced every dirt block, which, of course, made the world look horrible. It's unclear if these blocks were ever fixed and if they'll ever be implemented in the future.

Minecraft Dirt Blocks

Dirt can be obtained by digging up either dirt, grass, mycelium or farmland. Though using a tool with the silk touch enchantment will give you grass and mycelium instead of dirt. Using a shovel is the fastest way of harvesting dirt, though due to the speed of even stone shovels, using a diamond shovel is often considered a waste, especially when you're low on diamonds.

Minecraft Detector Rails

blocks under and next to it. This is very useful to create redstone clocks and allow for some form of randomization by making various tracks overlap into each other. They can also be used to permanently activate something by making a minecart stop on top of it. This is sometimes used in adventure maps, in which the tracks lead to the next part of the map and opens a door once the minecart reaches the end of the tracks. Detector rails can be combined with powered rails to speed up minecarts without having to use redstone torches to permanently power the tracks.

Minecraft Dead Bush

Dead bushes are found in desert biomes and sometimes in swamp biomes. They have no use, other than their aesthetics. They can be harvested by using shears, making them available to players who want to use it as decoration, but they can only be placed on sand blocks. Water will destroy these completely. Dead bushes are often used by players who try to make buildings look old and weathered, or by trying to make land look dry and infertile.

Minecraft Furnace

Furnaces are used to cook food and smelt ores, minerals and some other blocks, like sand. They're crafted with 8 cobblestone, but they can also be found in villages. Furnaces are also used to create automatic minecarts. A pickaxe is required to break the block without completely destroying it.

Minecraft Block of Diamond

Blocks of diamond are created by placing 9 diamonds in a 3x3 square on a crafting table. They have no current crafting use, other than being able to be turned back into 9 diamonds. Blocks of diamond are often only used as decoration and to show off a player's wealth on multiplayer servers.

Minecraft Cracked Stone Bricks

These blocks are a variant of the normal stone brick, but cannot be crafted. They're only found in strongholds, making them one of the rarest blocks in minecraft. Cracked stone bricks are often used in combination with normal stone bricks and mossy stone bricks to create beautiful looking ruins and tombs. Cracked stone bricks can be used to craft stone brick slabs and stone brick stairs, these will not have a cracked texture.

Minecraft Cobwebs

Cobweb can be found in abandoned mineshafts and strongholds, and has the unique ability of slowing down anything that falls or moves through it, without damaging them. Including dropped items. The only exception to this are both spider types, which can move freely through the cobwebs and fired arrows. Fire charges will turn into fire upon impact with cobwebs. Cobwebs can be destroyed with anything, though swords and shears are the fastest tool. Water, lava and pistons will destroy the cobweb as well.

Minecraft Cobblestone

Cobblestone is 'created' when normal stone and cobblestone are mined or when water flows on top of flowing lava. It can also be found in dungeons, villages and strongholds. This makes cobblestone often an early indicator of underground dungeons and strongholds. Due to the sheer amount of available stone, cobblestone is often the most used block by any player without creative mode or inventory edits.

Minecraft Coal Ore

Coal ore is the most common type of ore available in minecraft. It can be found anywhere on the map, at almost all altitudes. It's the only ore type that can be found above sea level. Coal ore can often be seen in exposed mountain sides, which is often the first place players look when starting a new map.

Minecraft Clay Block Wiki Guide

Clay is usually found under water, which can make harvesting a hassle, especially when it's quite deep. Clay can sometimes be found on dry land, but looking for it on land isn't advised. Clay is almost always fully or partially surrounded by sand, which makes it a little easier to spot it.

Minecraft Chiseled Sandstone Wiki Guide

Chiseled sandstone is a variant of normal sandstone. It appears to have a creeper face on it, along with several other shapes under that. It can be crafted by placing 2 sandstone slabs on top of each other in any crafting interface. Decorated sandstone can be used to craft smooth sandstone.

Minecraft Chests Wiki Guide

Chests are the main way to store items, allowing up to 27 stacks of items to be stored inside it. Other methods of storage are, of course, a player's inventory, as well as the limited spots inside furnaces and dispensers. Chests can be found in abandoned mineshafts, strongholds, villages and dungeons and can contain all sorts of loot. Saddles and melon seeds can only be obtained through naturally spawned chests. Minecraft Buttons Wiki Guide

Cake is the only food type that can be placed as a block. It can only be eaten by right-clicking it after placing it, it's impossible to eat it while it's in your hand, like other food. Cake can be eaten up to 6 times. Each time a small slice is removed which heals 1 food bar.
