Appearance

The Kavouradis is a massive, eight-limbed creature that resembles a crab. Its upper shell features jagged, backwards facing ridges that give the creature a spiky appearance. Its tail is similarly spiny, resembling that of a lobster or other long-tailed crustaceans. Kavouradis' four backmost limbs are akin to that of a typical crustacean's and feature tall, sharp spurs that face directly upwards when standing. Its second-to-frontmost pair of limbs are far bulkier, appearing more like the forelimbs of a vertebrate than that of an arthropod. These limbs end in "hands", each of which has three digits with short claws. Kavouradis exclusively uses these hands for locomotion, walking on its knuckles. This set of legs also features thick carapace armor, lined with hair-like bristles. Its smallest limbs are positioned near its mouth and end in small claws (or pinchers), the left one being noticeably larger than the right. Its mandibles open horizontally to reveal a mouth full of short, sharp teeth. Above its mouth and just below its upper shell are a single pair of narrow eyes. Flames hover above all four of its hindleg spurs and both of its claws.

Kavouradis has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.90)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (0.50)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Injury (0.80)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Injury Attack (3.5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Volcanic
Volcanic is a passive ability that grants users the ability to walk in lava without getting hurt or suffering status debuffs. During Famine and Drought, it additionally grants a 50% health regeneration boost and 25% thirst and hunger rate reduction. Volcanic does not protect a creature from Shadow Isle's corrupted lava.
Wing Shredder (1)
Wing Shredder is a passive ability that allows the user to offensively deal the Shredded Wings status to a creature they bite..

Behavior

  • As babies they will play above volcanic vents and get pushed up by the hot water.
  • Kavouradis are very clean creatures, and also like shiny things.
  • Kavouradis have bad eyesight, so they use their bright colors to find each other.

Trivia

  • Concept by Shugalio_333 on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by crabs, Monster Hunter's Seltas Queen, Greek gods (mainly Hades), and Nimwit. They have one asymmetrical small arm on their underside. The name "Kavouradis" may have been referred by the word 'Κάβουρας (kavouras)', which means 'crab' in Greek language.
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • Animated by Nimwit.
  • Rigged by Wolfragon.
  • The Kavouradis is the first crab-like creature to release in Creatures of Sonaria and the third crustacean-based creature to release into the game, with the first and second being Polymonstrum and Militrua.
  • It is also the first Legacy creature registered on the game without a special blood color but with a special bone carcass color only.
  • Because it lacks a neck, Kavouradis' larger claw is treated as its head, moving with the player's camera instead of its actual face. Chat messages and health bars will appear over this claw, and it even opens when calling.
  • Players often call Kavouradis "Alien crab", "Crab", or "Kavo" for short.
  • As well as Iztajuatl, Kavouradis is the first of the limited creatures whose price got changed over once (from 5,000 upon release to 3,000, then Recode standardized its price to 2,500).
