Appearance

The Konomushi is a six legged, two armed creature that resembles a praying mantis with an additional pair of legs. Its pair of arms are long and heavily plated at the ends, and each have three long claws. It has wing-like fins at the base and near the end of its tail, which splits in two. A large pair of insect wings sprout from its back, with a smaller pair at the base of the aforementioned pair. The Konomushi has a long pair of antennae which sprout from a small, pointed, elongated head, whose most prominent feature is its insect-like, giant ovoid eyes. Spikes rise from its shoulders, and hexagonal symbols adorn its plates.

**Males**: Males have a small, wing-like "sail" on their backs, 4 plumage-wing-like decorations at the base of its head, with similar decorations at the tip of its antenna; and the shoulder spikes are truncated (cut).

**Females**: Females have 2 pairs of spikes on its head (one pair at the base of the antenna, the other and the biggest one behind their eyes where the upper wing-like decorations of males would go), and their shoulder spikes are pointed. On the other hand their antenna tips are decorated with three far smaller spike-like decorations each.

Abilities

Invisibility
Invisibility is an active ability that makes the user invisible to other players when toggled. Invisibility allows the user to walk and swim cloaked as long as they don't bite, use any active ability, sprint, ambush, or jump/fly/glide. While active it does not hide the creature from being spotted by scent. Additionally, invisibility has a 30 second cooldown after being activated; however, deactivating the ability does not modify the cooldown.
Spite (0.35)
Spite is an active ability that increases a user's next attack damage based on its power meter, which gradually fills once the ability is triggered and then drains to 0 if no creature is attacked by the user during this time. It also has a customizable percentage (%) of the creature's damage (the % listed is the max of said creature's Spite power). Alongside raw damage, the user inflicts double ailments on their targets. The ability has a 20-second cooldown that starts upon activation.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.4)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Climber
Climber is a passive ability that allows the user to walk on walls and ceilings. To detach from a wall, press the Space on PC. On Mobile, press the dedicated Detach button, or, if the creature has Jump, press the jump button.
First Strike (0.25)
First Strike is a passive ability that grants the user increased damage while they are above 75% health. The damage increase is depends on the creature and is reflected in its stat menu.
Injury Attack (3.5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Konomushi have two different regional variants: those in the temperate forest, and those in the dunes. While the temperate Konomushi are more frilled and fanciful, the dune variant looks much larger, harsher, and spinier.
  • Both variants are solely female and reproduce through parthenogenesis, a form of asexual reproduction. Due to this, there are no male Konomushi in existence.
  • When encountering others of their species that are different variants, they tend to fight with each other or chase the other off.

Trivia

  • Concept by torviin. The Konomushi was inspired by mantids and animals that show parthenogenesis, such as whiptails and/or many other insects. Its name is meant to be read as "コノムシ (konomushi)", which is a fictional name that derives elements from "木の葉虫 (konohamushi)", the Japanese name for leaf insects.[1] The Konomushi's name, when put in Google Translate, means "this insect". Konomushi was originally shrimp based and intended to be all-terrain, but was switched to be flier due to it not maintaining its older semi-aquatic features. It was first named Ikhegani and was intended to be Nimwit's developer creature, but was later redesigned to remove its personal developer related features.[2]
  • As an all-female species, Konomushi's in-game gender differences are meant to represent its temperate and arid regional variants.
  • In Legacy, Konomushi has turquoise blue blood when bleeding. Due to this, when killed, the Konomushi drops a turquoise carcass in Legacy. This is an actual color in some Earth creatures, from those that use hemocyanin, a blue oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrates' blood.
