Appearance

The Nimoona is small in size and has round ‘frills’ with a similar build to a leviathan, but with some mammalian features (particularly, on their snout, cranium and back-leg structure). Nimoona is very vivid, with light blues, yellows, and deep purples, dark blues, and magenta hues. The fins on the side of its head resemble multi-lobed ears or gills/plumes. Both pectoral and ventral fins look extremely developed and resemble a tetrapod's arms and legs, with the distal area sharing some similarities with flat-fingered hands; the pectoral fins having a 4-fingered hand, and the ventral fins having 8 flat-toed feet. They are mostly used for propulsion when not in a rush and for dry-land movement. Two small dorsal fins can be seen on top of the pectoral fin area and at the base of the "tail", with a ventral fin mirroring the first's position near the bottom of the tail. The large fin on the tail looks partially like a rose bud, with several circular layers, not resembling any actual vertical or horizontal fin; but being used as a horizontal fin and main method of water propulsion when in a hurry. All of these fins present various patterns and decorations.

Abilities

Egg Stealer
Egg Stealer is an active ability that allows creatures to steal eggs from the nests of other players. If a creature has this ability, eggs are also highlighted with an egg icon when scenting.
Heal Aura (0.75)
Heal Aura is a toggleable active ability that performs a total % HP healing to creatures in a 175 stud range from the user, excluding the user itself. The raw amount of HP healed is different according to the creature. It has a 5-second cooldown after being toggled on but can be deactivated at any time. While active, the user emits a large green plus sign that fades in and out, and all nearby creatures will have positive healing numbers.
Healing Hunter (60)
Healing Hunter is a toggleable active ability that allows the user to deal melee hits that replenish the target's HP when hitting. This ability also allows the healer to toggle between melee heal mode and regular attack mode, where the healer's bites deal melee damage instead. It also prevents bleed and poison-booster plushies from giving extra offensive bleed or poison when hitting under healing mode. If a creature with this ability is on healing mode, they are surrounded by a pink hollow sphere with pink cross particles.
Latch (1)
Latch is an active ability that allows the user to latch onto higher-tiered creatures. Creatures that the user has latched into cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the latched creature can struggle by pressing any button and will release such creature from the latch. The user can unlatch at any moment by pressing the same button used to latch in the first place.
Block Bleed (0.3)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Quick Recovery
Quick Recovery is a passive ability that boosts HP regeneration when the user's health is below 40%. The lower the health, the higher the HP regeneration boost.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Behavior

  • Nimoona primarily inhabit Sonaria’s dense coral reefs, seeking out warm saltwater to play in the hidey-holes of the dense ocean. Nimoona have also been observed living and adapting to all temperature zones of the Sonarian ocean; temperate, tropical, and arctic. They are one of the most widespread and clever oceanic species of Sonaria.
  • During the day Nimoona can be seen congregating in packs and breaching the ocean waves playfully much like dolphins do.
  • Nimoona are capable of sitting on land for short periods, using their front extremities to crawl to land and sit in a way similar to seals.
  • Nimoona are pack creatures, swimming together in packs with very distinct sub-groups of Nimoona who are in charge of doing different tasks for their “clan”. Some roles include gathering flora and underwater berries for their pack mates to eat; and others tend for their young. The major roles of Nimoona packs are: Leader: Senior Nimoona may eventually be chosen by the council to become the leader. Council mates: This group of Nimoona are typically comprised of senior members who make important decisions for the pack; such as movement of the pack or discourse with other clans. Seniors: These older Nimoona typically take on fledgling students to teach and mentor, training them in the ways of the pack up until their eventual graduation. They also typically become members of the council. Fledgelings: Young Nimoona who are being brought up by senior members of the clan. Gatherers: Gatherer Nimoona collect and forage fruits and vegetables to be eaten by the pack. Some are clever enough to have figured out how to replant the seedlings; leading to dense kelp-fruit forests inhabited by the packs. Defenders: As Nimoona are typically docile and friendly creatures, defenders protect and patrol the territory to scout out potential threats to the pack. Nimoona only attack when there are territory disputes or threat to younglings. Caretakers: These Nimoona care for the pack's young and nesting Nimoona’s clutches. Nimoonas typically have three to four eggs in one clutch! Younglings: These are the juvenile Nimoona taken care of by the caretakers.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Five major Nimoona packs inhabit the oceans of Sonaria: the Intertide, Anthozoa, Pelagic, Abyss, and Benthic packs. Intertide are the tidal groups of Nimoona. As Nimoona can come up to land for short periods of time, these packs come in and out with the tides of the Sonarian ocean. Some of these Nimoona end up getting swept into the freshwater rivers and estuaries near the coast; leading to some to develop a unique adaptation to survive in both fresh and saltwater. Anthozoan Nimoona exist in the warm coral reefs of Sonaria. They are smaller; very colorful and agile Nimoona that like to burrow and make homes among the very biodiverse coral atolls, fringing, and barrier reefs of Sonaria. Pelagic Nimoona are the largest variety of Nimoona; these Nimoona exist in the large open oceans and therefore typically grow to be the largest. You can see packs of these Nimoona coming up to playfully breach the ocean. Benthic Nimoona exist in-between the Pelagic and Abyssal clans of Nimoona; living in deeper ocean that tends to be sparser but not fully devoid of life. These Nimoona are unusually long, quick swimmers and scavenge off the sparse plant life of the benthic ocean. These Nimoona shelter in the skeletal remains of the Titan (tier six) species that used to roam Sonaria before their inevitable demise. Abyssal Nimoona are the most elusive and mysterious pack of Nimoona. As they exist in some of the deepest depths of the Sonarian ocean; they have adapted to live in the low light and tend to be skinnier and weaker than their surface-dwelling counterparts. Their eyes are often cloudy, and they are far less colorful than other Nimoona. They exist around submarine volcanoes and vents, and have evolved to withstand the extreme pressures of the deep ocean.

Trivia

  • Designed and modeled by Malarkeii. Originally the design was heavily inspired by the popular Blue Dragon, and later by inspiring on sea slugs in general, but the face was based off of malarkeii's pet corn snake Curie. "They have super baby faces" - Malarkeii.
  • Redesign concept by Malarkeii. Nimoona's redesign was made to refine the original concept to a more modern and less simplistic Sonaria while keeping its overall cuteness.
  • Redesign modeled by dino (Acrasixa).
  • Redesign animated by Zyraphes.
  • One of the few creatures that was made in the game's Alpha stage.
  • Nimoona is currently the smallest fully aquatic creature in-game.
  • The Nimoona was the first aquatic creature to have received a breath (that of which being storm). However, it has since lost this ability.
