Abilities

Cause Fear
Cause Fear is an active ability and Recode's equivalent of Fear. It gives all creatures around the user 10 stacks (30 seconds) of Scared Status effect, and has a cooldown of 120 seconds (2 minutes).
Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Healing Hunter (140)
Healing Hunter is a toggleable active ability that allows the user to deal melee hits that replenish the target's HP when hitting. This ability also allows the healer to toggle between melee heal mode and regular attack mode, where the healer's bites deal melee damage instead. It also prevents bleed and poison-booster plushies from giving extra offensive bleed or poison when hitting under healing mode. If a creature with this ability is on healing mode, they are surrounded by a pink hollow sphere with pink cross particles.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.25)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (0.5)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Frostbite (0.5)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Block Injury (0.5)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Poison (0.4)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Defensive Bleed (1)
Defensive Bleed is a passive ability where the user defensively inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on their attacker upon being bitten.
Diver (5)
Diver is a passive ability that grants the user the ability to temporarily keep flying underwater for a short period of time while retaining their diving speed. The exact period of time varies per creature.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.

Behavior

  • Generally, Opralegion are passive and, unless provoked, will usually fly around in the skies.
  • Tends to help guide lost creatures back to their homes and be a beacon of guidance to other creatures.
  • When attacked, they prefer not to attack back unless highly threatened, in which they will display aggression back and attempt to scare you off rather than kill.
  • They like to hover over creatures which makes them seem predatory, but in fact Opralegion think that anything beneath its shadow is safe.
  • Its eyes are sometimes described as an abyss that stares back.

Trivia

  • Concept art by LammieLord on the Creatures of Sonaria discord. Inspired by a moodboard for Wolfragon, and the concept creator's personal inspiration was Astrocetus from ARK: Survival Evolved. When asked about the naming of the Opralegion, LammieLord states that she "...had the Pokémon Basculegion in my mind when I came up with the name," and that "...it sounded cool lol and also at the time not a lot of creatures had O as their first letter (at the time it was just Ovufu) so ye"[1] The Opralegion is "meant to resemble a True Biblical angel, hence the many eyes." Along with this, it's a whale and dragon-like (quoted by Wolfragon). The Opralegion's first draft involved a different type of head, but was changed upon request of a head that was more draconic. "Its eyes are actually the floating bits around it..It has no real eyes on its body except the purple-looking eyeballs that are placed around it. - Wolfragon." The second palette is comprised of black, red, and tan colors to incorporate the developer's OC colors called Dragotias. These colors were also chosen to serve as a nice demon-like contrast to the angelic appearance of the default palette.
  • Modeled and rigged by Wolfragon. Wolfragon has clarified that in-game, the Opralegion will never be larger than a Boreal Warden. They have draconic-like teeth, more omnivorous. In the original concept art, the teeth appeared more bristle-like instead.
  • Originally planned to be a sky-aquatic (Skyquatic), meaning it could fly and swim efficiently, but not walk on land, and originally confirmed by Wolfragon to not release until the game's recode; due to the recode being delayed that was no longer the case. As such, it also changed from Sky-Aquatic creature to All-terrain. After Skyquatics finally released in Recode, Opralegion finally became a Skyquatic.
  • Redesign concept art by retronintendo102.
  • Redesign modeled and rigged by Wolfragon.
  • Redesign animated by Mukudori (M_uku).
  • Opralegion has purple/violet blood. Because of that, when dying, it drops a purple carcass. In real life, the change in color is caused by hemerythrin, a respiratory pigment of a purplish/violet color once oxygenated, replacing hemoglobin in several invertebrates.
  • The OG concept creator of Opralegion created a discord profile picture for Wolfragon of Opralegion, inspired/referenced off of a development image they took in a development stream.
  • In Legacy, there was an easter egg underwater where an Opralegion's eye was in a volcanic vent.
  • Some people nicknamed it as the "Whale, Opra, Opera and Bootleg Novus", while others joking refer to it as "Fantasia 2000 Whale" because those whales could fly as well.
