Appearance

The Pterolythux is a hybrid between pterosaurs and very early avialans, having a mostly-pterosaur body shape and locomotion with a short tail and a specific head rudder identical to the tail rudder shape that, unlike pterosaurs and more like primitive bird ancestors, resembles avialans frond tail, flattened horizontally instead of vertically. Additionally, it does not have only one, but two pairs of wings, a large and muscular forward pair, and a second smaller pair attached to its hind legs. Apart from that, different types of spikes cover its back, with the neck and tail having conic-like spikes while the actual back has flatter, rhomboid-shaped ones. This last type of spike also covers its chest, forming a line. Two groups of feather/scale-like patterns cover the sides of its head, protruding from the lower jaw.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Bleed Attack (6)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.3)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Diver (10)
Diver is a passive ability that grants the user the ability to temporarily keep flying underwater for a short period of time while retaining their diving speed. The exact period of time varies per creature.
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Serrated Teeth
Serrated Teeth is a passive ability that offensively inflicts Deep Wounds status when biting.

Behavior

  • Pterolythuxs are docile pack creatures. Groups, or skein, of Pterolythux have no social hierarchy and can be seen migrating in V-shaped patterns closely resembling the patterns of a goose migration when moving to warmer climates. Despite the lack of a hierarchy, their social groups are similar to giraffes, where dominance is asserted by fighting with their necks.

Trivia

  • Concept by undeary in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by pterodactyls, Quetzalcoatlus, and long-necked/flying ornithodirans (that is, the group that contains dinosaurs and pterosaurs). This statement may be in reference to azhdarchids and sauropods.
  • In Legacy, Pterolythux can more or less safely traverse through lava (idle animation, sitting, laying down, aggro, cower, hiding scent, and walking on a straight line over lava don't hurt the Pterolythux), as seen here.
