Appearance

The Slaiorn has a teardrop-shaped body, with a rounded torso that thins from the lower torso to the tail tip. On the tail's tip is a battle-axe-shaped feature with a pair of pointed pincer-like shapes appearing on the end. Large scales cover the back with its face placed low along the front end with thick, short horn-like features protruding from the creature's forehead. There are several floating details spread across the base of the body, tail's end, and similarly-shaped thin strips attached to the face. Its 3 pairs of eyes are actually located in their lower jaw. In front of its face is a long floating piece that curves toward the body and a duplicate shape flipped vertically that bends below the creature's face. On its sides, it has thick flipper-like limbs with floating rings around the fin tips. On the upper floating piece in front of the creature's face and the pincer-like shape on the tail tip are small, red floating orbs. It consists of reds, yellows, and light and dark grays.

**Males**: Males present two pairs of whisker-like spines under their head, at the base of their lower jaws, aiming downwards.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Radiation (0.5)
Radiation is a toggleable (ON/OFF) area-of-effect (AOE) ability that gives Corrosion status to nearby creatures. The severity of corrosion received is determined by proximity to the user. It can go from the base damage indicated on the creature labels (usually 0.25) per tick from afar to twice that value (0.5) per tick around mid-range, and finally going to thrice the original value (0.75) per tick when close. A creature emitting radiation can be spotted by a green spherical glow around their body.
Block Bleed (0.5)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.75)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Poison (0.5)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Defensive Poison (2.5)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Poison Attack (2)
Poison Attack is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to another creature upon biting them. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Behavior

  • Slaiorn will use their tails to break rocks and reefs to terraform their homes. They can also use their tails to dig into the sea floor and kick up and to confuse their enemies or like anchors to stop themselves at high speeds.

Trivia

  • Concept by Shugalio_333 in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The Slaiorn was inspired by "a puffer fish body with armor but other than that i kinda just did whatever i wanted" (quoted by concept creator @icecreamNavacodo) Other general inspirations/bases include radioactivity and hammers.
  • Modeled by Wolfragon.
  • Current animations by Mukudori. Previously animated by BlckBrryJam.
