Appearance

The Urzuk is a large quadrupedal creature with large wings, a long tail ending in a sharp tip that somewhat resembles a scorpion's stinger, strong front legs, frills behind the head, long tufted ears, and a brown elongated face mask. Urzuk has three black eyes on its mask with purple glowing iris. The third eye located vertically between the first and second eye. Between its horns there is fourth floating eye, diamond-shaped. On its neck there are two gold half rings. Its hands resemble those of a human, with five fingers, although it is quadrupedal. Next to its ankles float three small feathers. Its belly, unlike the white-beige base, is dark purple, and it is dotted with eye spots, but these eyes are not real. Its hind legs are also dark purple, and they also have two eye spots. There is a gold ring on Urzuk's hind ankles. The Urzuk's hind paws, unlike its front paws, are cat-like, and they are three-toed. Its wings are large and smooth, they have almost no sharp edges. In front of the wings are float 3 feather-like things. The base of the wing is dark purple, like the belly and legs, but the feathers themselves are beige, like the base. Urzuk's tail itself is dark purple, being something of an extension of the spot on its belly, but it has a tuft of beige fur hanging off it at the beginning, and is almost entirely decorated with gold rings. The tip of the tail, which resembles a scorpion's stinger, is golden, and in the center of it there is an eye, with black eye with purple glowing iris.

Urzuk has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Fortify
Fortify is an active ability with a 90-second cooldown that wipes almost all status effects deemed as negative, excluding thirst, hunger, plushie-derived effects, and weather effects. It will also wipe beneficial status effects if they contain at least one debuff. It grants a short immunity to all status effects gained after being activated, and increases weight by 5% for a short period according to the stack number (3, in this case).
Hunters Curse
Hunters Curse is an active ability that costs half of total health to use but grants 10 stacks (30 seconds) of the Hunters Curse status, which increases damage by 100%. It has a 120 second cooldown.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.30)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.20)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Breath Resistance (0.35)
Breath Damage Resistance is a passive ability that decreases the percentage of damage received by the user from breath abilities. A 100% breath resistance means full immunity from the damage dealt from breaths, but not for the status effects they afflict, which remain unaffected.
Defensive Frostbite (1)
Frostbite touch/Defensive Frostbite is an ability that defensively deals frostbite when bitten.
Defensive Poison (0.5)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Diver (12)
Diver is a passive ability that grants the user the ability to temporarily keep flying underwater for a short period of time while retaining their diving speed. The exact period of time varies per creature.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Urzuks are intelligent celestial beings, made of magic, that the wardens created as their helpers, guards and companions (something akin to angels). They can have a multitude of roles and powers depending on what is needed of them for the wardens at any time. For example, Rebus' power of being able to locate the warden keys.
  • It is not uncommon to see Urzuks accompanying warden avatars on Sonaria as their protectors.
  • The appearance of an Urzuk can vary wildly, mainly depending on what warden(s) they serve. Their body type, number of wings and eyes, masks (facial features), accessories, as well as many other things, like their 'core' and eye color depend on it. However, they will always keep the same blueprint: a feline body with bird wings and a humanoid-looking mask with a floating eye above it. (The floating eye can have different shapes as well)
  • Just like humans, Urzuks can have a lot of different, unique faces!
  • Their masks resemble a "human" face far more than that of a feline or any other animal, though it can have animalistic traits. Their masks could even be described as uncanny by some. The mouths, noses and general face shape of their masks match that of humans. The reason their masks look this way is unfortunately lost to the ages.
  • Urzuk masks are generally made from different kinds of metal, stones, gemstones, bone or wood. The latter two are mainly used by Urzuks following Mors'vuk (Garra Warden) and Farhaus (Verdant Warden) respectively. Some masks are more brittle than others. Urzuks mainly wear masks as a form of tradition and in appreciation of their creators. Their masks are integral to their identity, as every Urzuk mask is unique. Urzuks are given their first mask by the wardens, and they highly treasure them. Breaking the mask of an Urzuk will cause them extreme distress. They might attack the creature responsible for damaging it. Urzuks who don't wear masks are usually shunned by other Urzuks. Some rogue Urzuks, will sometimes throw their masks away as an act of rebellion against their wardens. But not all behave this way, as most are very attached to their masks.
  • There's nothing under an Urzuk's mask except for a black void with empty pupils (which can be more than how many eyes their mask has).
  • Urzuks are immortal, however they're not invincible and can be killed.
  • Their anatomy is rather unique, as Urzuks are more akin to automatons rather than actual living creatures, they do not possess any bones, organs or even meat, instead they're built out of unknown materials with strange properties, only the wardens may know what they're truly made of. Most of an Urzuk's body is made from a void like "liquid", which makes up most of their insides, even if it is not outwardly visible at first for some Urzuks. It is unclear what the exact properties of this material are, but it is seemingly what allows Urzuks to regenerate severe damage. New limbs can be formed from this matter, which then become hardened and near identical to the lost limb or damaged area. The mask of an Urzuk is not a part of its body.
  • They possess a crystaline, magical core found inside their chest, which is their only power source. This is their life essence, and if it is destroyed, the Urzuk falls apart and dies. Usually, an Urzuk's eye color matches the color of their core. Due to their lack of organs as well as being fully powered by their core, Urzuks do not have to eat, drink or breathe at all.
  • Urzuks cannot reproduce, since they're an entirely artificial species. The only way a new Urzuk can be created is by a warden making them.
  • Urzuks are fantastic vocal mimics, being able to mimic the calls of other creatures as well as a myriad of other sounds, regardless of their pitch. They can choose how their voices sound as well to fit their own liking.
  • Urzuks who have more than one warden as their creator are generally stronger than other Urzuks and have more abilities bestowed upon them. Their cores can have multiple colors as well, but this is not always the case.
  • Urzuks can form friendships with one another, but they don't feel any romantic feelings or attraction towards each other and don't form relationships. This is mainly due to the fact that they do not reproduce at all.
  • Urzuks may form friendships with other sapient species.
  • Urzuks are loyal and obedient by nature towards their wardens, being their dutiful guards and helpers, usually fulfilling any of their orders. If an Urzuk is way too unruly, it may get its mask stripped away or get abandoned, imprisoned, or destroyed by its warden. It depends on what punishment the warden chooses; some wardens are less merciful than others.
  • Urzuks that have multiple wardens as their creators usually stick with only one of them, who they serve for a long time. This can cause scuffles between wardens.
  • Some Urzuks decide to leave their wardens by their own volition, escaping and becoming rogue Urzuks. However, they must go into hiding, because if they're found by the wardens, they will face severe judgement.
  • Urzuks can have varied personalities, which sometimes even clash with the personality of the warden they belong to.
  • Urzuks are an inherently genderless species, however they can and do use different pronouns to refer to each other (she/her, he/him, they/them, etc), but they/them is the most used.
  • Interestingly, some Urzuks may develop a stronger sense of gender after their interactions with other sapient species who have more clearly defined gender roles and identities.
  • When an Urzuk is damaged, its body behaves as if it is made of stone, "wounds" can appear as cracks.
  • The insides of wounds appear black if cut deep enough to reach the shadowy substance inside their body.
  • Urzuks do not bleed, unless their core is damaged. In which case it will seep out magic until it's repaired. If the core is left untreated for too long, the Urzuk may die from running out of magic.
  • They can slowly regenerate parts of their body, which can range from minor injuries to missing limbs, by draining their magic. Depending on the severity of the harm done to their body, their magic depletes accordingly, and this ends up weakening them. If an Urzuk has used up too much of its magic, it might be unable to heal any future damage done to it and will be stuck in that state unless it gets assistance from a warden to replenish its magic. Rogue or abandoned Urzuks generally do not have access to warden assistance, and it is common to see them with a damaged appearance.

Trivia

  • Concept by Renorayz in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by sphinxes, Lamassu, weeping angels and golems. Urzuk's appearance was also slightly inspired by the Golden Guard from The Owl House. The name of the creature is based on the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk. The Urzuk's appearance is also said to be based on the Boreal Warden, Eigion Warden, and Angelic Warden. Not only does the Urzuk share a few characteristics and possible history with the wardens, but 3 of its in-game abilities seem to come from them as well; defensive frostbite seems to come from the Boreal Warden, the diver ability seems to come from the Eigion Warden being aquatic, and the keen observer ability may come from the Angelic Warden. It also has the breath resistance ability, which might have also been inherited from the Wardens. At one point during the design process, Urzuk had three ears.
  • The Urzuk is the species of Rebus, the name of the individual Urzuk featured in the game's official Lore. Urzuk is the first Lore event creature for the game.
  • Along with the Warden's abilities, a few characteristics that the Urzuk has similar to the 3 Wardens are: Urzuk has Boreal Warden-like feathers floating on the sides of its wings, on the back of its legs, and on its back. Urzuk has Eigion Warden-like eyes on its body and the Warden's fins on certain parts of its body, mainly the tail and back legs. Unlike the Eigion however, whose body eyes are said to be false, Urzuk's body eyes may be actual eyes as they turn red during the Blood Moon just like the eyes on its face. Urzuk has Angelic Warden wings, furriness, and just general looks. It also has similar body eyes the Angelic has, but not the same shape as Eigion's. Urzuk was stated to be based off of Angelic Warden the most. Its color palette, while having several similarities to Angelic Warden's cream and dark gray colors, also shares some of the colors (or at least similar ones, but stronger) to Eigion's (reddish hues -> strong reds and oranges; turquoise blues -> blues and greens) and Boreal's (faint purplish bluish hues -> strong blues and purples; faint greens -> green).
  • When entering sleep mode, Urzuk have their pupils shut down so none of the pupil lights can be seen.
