Volzerk Beginner’s Guide [April 2024]

Welcome to our Volzerk beginner’s guide. This page is designed to help both novice and veteran players alike, enabling you to navigate through the complexities of the game with ease. We hope this guide will serve as a valuable resource in your Volzerk journey.

Volzerk Beginner's Guide

Volzerk Beginner’s Guide: Starting Your Volzerk Adventure

When you embark on your journey in Volzerk, your first task is to navigate through the main storyline to unlock additional features in the game. As you advance through the main story, you will progressively unlock various enhancement elements, such as character development and equipment upgrades.

The difficulty level of the battles in the initial stages is relatively low. Thus, it is recommended to proceed until you encounter a challenge in acquiring a specific creature or advancing your ranger rank.

Upon completing main episodes 1-4, you will be rewarded with a free 4-star character. Notably, Volzerk does not follow many games’ traditional gacha or reroll system. Instead, some 3-star characters can be obtained using in-game currency. While purchasing characters can be beneficial, it is optional and not a requirement to progress in the game.

In the initial stages of the game, you will recognize four primary types of weapons that your characters can wield:

  • Swords: Known for their swift attacks and knock-up ability in their base combo, disrupting some enemies.
  • Spears: A touch slower but boasts a larger area of effect.
  • Axes: Slightly slower but possess super armor and a knock-up.
  • Staves: These offer ranged attacks and are somewhat slow but have a high hit count on their third hit, which is beneficial for triggering status effects. However, their skills are quite slow, making them less suited for damage per second (DPS).

When you receive your free 4-star character, you can refer to our Volzerk tier list to see how strong it is. While tier lists can be subjective and depend on playstyle, they can provide a useful point of reference for Free-to-play (F2P) players who intend to focus on a single unit until end-game play.

Essential Tips for New Players When Stuck

If you find yourself stuck in the early stages of the game, here are some strategies to help you advance:

Enhance Your Character with Accumulated Experience Points

Use the experience points you’ve earned through exploration and quests to boost your character’s abilities. This will increase your creature’s ability release rate. Combat power is calculated based on your creature’s ability multiplied by the character’s ability release rate, plus equipment. Therefore, strengthening your creatures and characters is the most effective way to boost your combat power.

Strengthen Creatures Through Training

Once you’ve cleared episodes 1-6, you should focus on strengthening your creatures through training. Placing a creature in training will automatically enhance it over time. Training continues even when the game application is not running, so it’s recommended to always have a creature in training.

Acquire New Creatures Through Breeding

After clearing the main episode 1, you will unlock the ability to breed creatures. Breeding allows you to obtain next-generation creatures by consuming one male and one female creature. Be cautious, as creatures used for breeding will disappear, so ensure it is safe to consume a creature before proceeding with breeding.

Explore to Gain Strength

Exploration can be an effective solution if your strength is lacking in the early stages. Exploration allows you to pair creatures, obtain enhancement materials, and discover ruins. You can also obtain new weapons by accumulating exploration points and entering ruins.

Equip Acquired Equipment and Minions

If you’re struggling in the early stages, equip the equipment and minions you’ve obtained to boost your combat power. Equipment can be changed from the equipment formation of the party formation. Setting the equipment will increase your parameters based on the numerical value of the equipment, enabling you to enhance your combat power.

Once you’ve cleared the main episode 3 and unlocked transmutation, you should actively strengthen your equipment. Enhancing your equipment with alchemy will boost your offensive and defensive power, making quest completion easier.

Unlocking New Features as a New Player

Several milestones in the game will unlock new features, including:

Advanced Tips and Tricks for Veteran Players

Hidden Shrine Locations

Each night map contains a hidden shrine that is not visible on the minimap. Visit these shrines and defeat the boss to unlock rare minions in the night map. These shrines are accessed through somewhat concealed locations. After defeating the boss, the shrine will disappear and a rare minion will appear somewhere on the night map. Hard mode also features these shrines.

Breeding Basics

Breeding in Volzerk involves understanding several key aspects:

  • Grades of Creatures: From highest to lowest, the grades are Purple, Red, Yellow, Blue, and None. Pairing an Excellent Grade creature with a Purple grade will result in a Purple Grade offspring. However, if an Excellent Grade creature is paired with a Yellow Grade, the offspring will be Red Grade.
  • Teaching Hearts: A character can only teach one Heart (a skill passive parameter) to the same creature. For example, if you teach a Feena skill to Draco S, you cannot teach the Feena again on another S on that same Draco. However, you can teach it to their offspring.
  • Experience Value and Status: Experience Value is carried over from parent to child, but status is not. You can only carry experience value to make it easier for creatures to be used, as max level parents will only carry total experience value to their offspring.
  • Breeding Same Creatures: If you breed the same creatures, the offspring will be the same creature again, unless the creature doesn’t have an upper generation.
  • Elemental Attributes: Creatures with elemental weaknesses will lose their attribute to the stronger element. For example, when Fire is paired with Water, the offspring will be Water. Incompatible elements will result in either of the elements.
  • Weapon Types: Creatures with the same type of weapon will produce offspring with the same weapon type. If different weapon types are paired, the offspring will have either type.
  • Parameters: The offspring will carry the parameters (S/A/B/C/D) of their parents, with two new random parameters. If you’re not satisfied with the result, you can use the in-game feature to reroll these parameters.
  • Skill Weapons: The Skill Weapon of the offspring will be carried over from the parents AND the actual skill of the child. If the weapons are the same type, the skill will level up. If not, a new skill move will be generated.
  • Slot for Parameters: Every child will come with another 2 Slot for Parameters. These slots can be S too if you’re lucky.

Accumulating Large Amounts of Gold

A great tactic to accumulate gold is to explore dungeons you haven’t explored yet. After clearing a dungeon, there’s a chance a message will pop up with a picture of a monster. This means the next time you go into free exploration in the category of that dungeon; you’ll meet that monster in a fiesta event, where that monster will replace the whole field. This can be a great opportunity to earn a lot of gold.
