Appearance

The Aleicuda is a long creature with features reminiscent of a nothosaur, eel, lancet fish, and flying fish. It has a long neck and narrow head similar to a barracuda's and translucent fins on its head, neck, back, and tail. Three opaque fins line its stomach, while another three adorn the distal tail, resembling shark-like caudal fins. From the torso sprout three pairs of flippers that all have translucent membranes. Short spiked armor plates line its neck and lower body and tail base, while stripes are found on its torso and the tip of its tail. Its color palette consists of green, gold, white, black, brown, and gray.

**Males**: Males have an additional small translucent fin pair on their snout.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Bleed Attack (5)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.2)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Serrated Teeth
Serrated Teeth is a passive ability that offensively inflicts Deep Wounds status when biting.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.
Will To Live
Will To Live is a passive ability that allows the user to sprint without spending stamina. However, if stamina is depleted and the creature attempts to sprint, it will deal 3% of health every 3 seconds.

Behavior

  • The Aleicuda is an open ocean, surface/mid-water predator. It can hunt alone or in groups, the latter of which is typically led by one individual who coordinates hunts. The lead Aleicuda can be of either gender. In a group hunt, Aleicudas can coordinate attacks on small schools of fish, with one Aleicuda acting as the main attacker and the others acting as supports to keep the fish in a tight ball. Lone Aleicudas have been observed working with Koipise to hunt fish, but this behavior is rare.
  • Aleicudas can occasionally be seen cleaning its six pectoral fins with kelp. Additionally, it often rubs up on rocks and allows smaller creatures to pick parasites from its skin.
  • Aleicuda is a vertical migrator that moves closer to the surface at night while staying slightly deeper during the day to avoid predators. Their main and most noteworthy predator is Axothan.
  • Aleicuda will die if it fully dries out, which can occur if it accidentally beaches itself while gliding.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Aleicudas can be seen as a good omen, as they are usually seen when fish stocks and prey are abundant.

Trivia

  • Concept by HappyPoltergeist. Aleicuda was inspired by flying fish, barracuda, lancetfish, tuna, ribbon eels, and marlins. In the concept art of the Glimmer variant, the species is referred to as Alepicuda.
  • Aleicuda currently borrows modified calls from Beezu and Lerachu.
  • Aleicuda is the first fully-aquatic secret mission creature.
  • On Aleicuda's concept art, it is depicted with an extra extension on the tail fin; however, this was never added into the final design.
