Appearance

The Gloracus is an armored quadrupedal creature with several blue-and-brown fins sprouting from its head (5 cephalic fins), torso (3 dorsal fins, 1 pair of pectoral dosal fins near the shoulders, 1 pair of ventral fins), front legs (2 pairs stemming from their distal forearm near the wrists), and tail base (two pelvic fins and the fouth dorsal fin), along with finned front whiskers. The tail ends of a big three-lobed caudal fin and sports a small group of fins walfway through (the fifth dorsal fin and the third pair of ventral fins). The dorsal areas and sides of torso and neck are covered in fish-like plates, which seem to develop into scaled protrusions on the upper sides of the torso (3 plates) and the base of the pointed head and neck (three pairs of small serrated protrusions). The head also sports an elongated and thin pair of mammalian ears and two small cheek protection plates.

It mostly consists of shades of brown with hints of beige and blue colors.

Abilities

Dazzling Flash
Dazzling Flash is an active ability that generates a quick white flash and causes nearby creatures to experience confusion, tunnel vision, and blurred vision. It has a 70 second cooldown.
Harden
Harden is an active ability which decreases movement speed by 20% in trade of a 35% increase in weight and 25% increase in health regeneration. Does not affect turning rate or turning speed.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.25)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.25)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Poison (0.25)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Broodwatcher
Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows users to assist in the gestation of other players' eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
Charge (Power)
Charge is a passive ability that gradually fills an orange "Charge" bar (unique to creatures with this ability) while running. Once completely full, clicking (Lmb on PC or on Mobile or RT on Xbox) will apply special effects on a creature the user is hitting. If the bar is not full, charge effects may be reduced or non-existent. Current Charge types:
Injury Attack (1.5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Pack Healer
Pack Healer is a pack-oriented passive ability. This passive ability allows the user to boost the HP regen of their fellow packmates.
Strength In Numbers
Strength In Numbers is a passive ability that gives the user a 7% stamina regeneration boost and a 1.5% damage boost. It stacks according to how many creatures with the same ability and species are nearby. If there are no other users with this ability nearby, it will not provide the boost.

Trivia

  • Designed by Reptilez (a.k.a Reptilez_Bugs) on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The concept creator of Gloracus claims to not really remember where they drew inspiration from for Gloracus, it was pretty much trial and error that led to Gloracus. However, they do remember Gloracus was somewhat inspired by a rhino or something similar to that of a rhino. The Gloracus' name and appearance may be a reference to the word 'glaucous', meaning 'of a dull grayish-green or blue color'. Gloracus also seem to resemble the Paraceratherium, a species of hornless rhinoceros that lived during the Paleogene Period.
