Appearance

The Minthwyrm is a small multi-winged wyvern-like creature with a candycane appearance. Its head is thin and long, with two ram-like horns coming out of its cheeks. The long neck has several candy cane feather-like aprons sprouting out of it; these candy canes can also be seen on parts of its back and tail. Possessing a large torso to stay airborne. Having no legs whatsoever its abdomen smooths into a long, thin tail. Said tail strongly resembles a candy cane, with the end of it having a little hook to it along the side of some feathers. Two pairs of wings sprout from its back, with the front wings being fairly larger than the back wings. These wings start off as feathered but end in membrane wings. Four candy cane-like appendages sprout out of the feathered part of the wings. The smaller wings possess only three of said appendages.

Abilities

Dazzling Flash
Dazzling Flash is an active ability that generates a quick white flash and causes nearby creatures to experience confusion, tunnel vision, and blurred vision. It has a 70 second cooldown.
Stamina Puddle
Stamina Puddle is an active ability that places down a small star-filled puddle. Once a user interacts with the puddle, their stamina will regenerate three times faster for 180 seconds. Placement has a 120 second cooldown. A creature can place more than 1 puddle at a time, but the boost will not stack or reset to max by interacting multiple times with a puddle before the stamina boost fades.
Yolk Bomb (Frostbite)
Yolk Bomb is an active ability available after reaching the adult stage. It drops an egg directly below the user using the ability when flying or gliding. The egg explodes on contact with the ground and has a radius of 40 studs. All creatures within the range of the explosion receive the same amount of knockback, 2 stacks of Slowed status, and 4 of the variable status effect specific to its type (e.g. frostbite, burn, etcetera). It has a cooldown of 30 seconds.
Bleed Attack (1)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.3)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (-0.3)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Frostbite (0.5)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Block Disease (0.2)
Disease Block/Block Disease is a passive ability that grants the user partial resistance to getting the Disease status from attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 Disease per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Disease, then the receiver gets only 2 of 6 stacks. If a creature's Block Disease is 100%, then they are immune to Disease inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages.
Defensive Frostbite (0.5)
Frostbite touch/Defensive Frostbite is an ability that defensively deals frostbite when bitten.
Frostbite Attack (1)
Frostbite Attack is an ability that offensively deals frostbite when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Frosty
Frosty is a passive ability that causes the user to receive +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine. Additionally, it prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.

Behavior

  • Minthwyrms primarily hunt small prey. They kill them with their venom, which when injected will cause their prey's body temperatures to lower to dangerous levels. This causes extreme sluggishness, disorientation and eventually unconsciousness. The Minthwyrm will then swallow its incapacitated prey whole, much like a snake.
  • A Minthwyrm's venom is not as effective on larger prey but still has a noticeable effect. Minthwyrms may bite larger creatures, putting them into a lethargic state. Then proceed to take advantage of their delayed reaction times to fly off with their eggs, babies, or scraps of food.
  • Minthwyrms sleep and lay their eggs in burrows made in the snow.
  • Minthwyrms have an aggressive rivalry with Euvias and are highly territorial towards them. Minthwyrms will go out of their way to sabotage euvias nests and kill lone individuals, even if not hungry.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Minthwyrms have amazing senses and can sense prey by their thermal signatures.

Trivia

  • Concept by Austroraptors in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The Minthwyrm was inspired by snakes, candy canes, and peppermint swirls. The name "Minthwyrm" may be a portmanteau of the words 'minth' and 'wyrm'
  • Modeled by nekcihc (Fizzyton) and rigged by ThunderBoo666.
  • Animated by Zyraphes.
  • Minthwyrm is the first creature to receive the Yolk Bomb ability.
