It has a lobster-like tail to help it swim. Two smaller mantis arms on its lower jaw help it carry food. This creature's colours consist of dark and light blues, black and white.

Abilities

Spite (0.75)
Spite is an active ability that increases a user's next attack damage based on its power meter, which gradually fills once the ability is triggered and then drains to 0 if no creature is attacked by the user during this time. It also has a customizable percentage (%) of the creature's damage (the % listed is the max of said creature's Spite power). Alongside raw damage, the user inflicts double ailments on their targets. The ability has a 20-second cooldown that starts upon activation.
Agile Swimmer
Agile Swimmer is a passive ability that causes the player to receive the following buffs when submerged underwater for more than a second: 100% more stamina regeneration 50% more total stamina 75% more walk speed 75% more sprint speed A % increase in oxygen (oxygen increase percentage is based off the amount of oxygen the creature originally has) Additionally, a glider semi-aquatic (and an aqua-glider) can abuse the extra stamina to increase the number of glide flaps it can perform from the water boosted. Until they touch the ground or stop gliding, the boosted stamina amount will remain.
Block Bleed (0.45)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Injury (0.35)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Frosty
Frosty is a passive ability that causes the user to receive +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine. Additionally, it prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.
Injury Attack (5)
Injury Attack is an ability that offensively deals injury status when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Behavior

  • Polymonstrum hunt both on land and under shallow waters, using ambush methods from dense foliage, or shorelines. Baby Polymonstrum will initially act friendly to one another, but will attack each other the moment one's guard is lowered.
  • Polymonstrum are highly aggressive and will eat anything if given an opportunity, with the exception of two things which they will never attack as well: their children and their own parent figure. Polymonstrum are very good mothers, and very gentle and caring for their children. Any species can raise a Polymonstrums with zero risk of harm or death, a juvenile Polymonstrum will imprint on the first living being it sees and defend them valiantly. However, Polymonstrum will still show hostility to other creatures around them even if they are the same species as its imprinted mother. This can be lessened through training, but caution would still be advised.
  • If they want to eat you but don't have the opportunity to ambush, they will just sit there and stare at you.
  • Their attacks are extremely precise, and insanely powerful, similar to a human being struck by a bullet train. A singular hit from a Polymonstrum is capable of completely smashing a Kendyll's skull. Polymonstrum's punch would be comparatively weaker to that of a mantis shrimp's assuming they were the same size, but given Polymonstrum is much larger its punch would be roughly 40 times stronger.
  • Polymonstrum do not aim for limbs when attacking. They will aim for exclusively the body or the head.

Lore (non-canon)

  • Polymonstrum has about 30 different species and subspecies associated with it, the same as Trutholbyeva. Some of these subspecies of Polymonstrum have adapted to Freshwater or Saltwater depending on their living environment.
  • Polymonstrum have no gender and reproduce asexually, the 4 spine antennae on their hips are baby Polymonstrums, they harden and then fall off and melt into tadpole Polymonstrums, which the parental figure cares for them from there. The parental figure is usually referred to as mother. Baby Polymonstrums CANNOT eat, they are born with no mouth, and must develop a mouth in time to eat before they starve to death. Two forms of Polymonstrums exist, one in which their shell is soft and used more to absorb sunlight for energy, and another in which the shell is extremely dense and hard to break. If the antennae fall off while it is hardened, the Polymonstrum is born with no issues. If the antennae falls off while it is still soft, the Polymonstrum itself hardens later on and this armor persists throughout its lifetime. Hardened Polymonstrum are largely stationary, and usually die off early in their lifetime due to being unable to move themselves around. Polymonstrum ignore the magical capabilities and properties of other creatures, to the point even a Warden would suffer immense damage trying to deal with a Polymonstrum. An Aereis would immediately die upon being attacked by a Polymonstrum due to this property.
  • The weakness of a Polymonstrum is on the back of their neck; by grabbing onto their throat from this angle and crushing it, the Polymonstrum will die of asphyxiation.
  • Nyctoxon would apparently be an excellent hunter of Polymonstrum. This extends to any creature large enough to get its jaws around Polymonstrum's throat, but is still agile enough to pin it down. Such an example includes Tarakotu. The current design of Polymonstrum is considered a subspecies of the original design of Polymonstrum. (Not reflected through in-game mechanics) There is a possibility that the current design of Polymonstrum can be considered a photocarnivore. Despite its advertised strength, a Polymonstrum could not realistically break through a Militrua's shell, as it is 2-3 feet of solid steel. However, being able to ambush a Militrua from underneath would guarantee an easy kill, as unlikely as the situation would be. Polymonstrum's whiskers are used for sensing vibrations. In the original variation of Polymonstrum it was its feet that held this property. Polymonstrum are able to change color depending on mood.
  • There is an empire state building sized creature referred to as the 'queen of Polymonstrums' that absorbs her preys intelligence and memories, named Polyphome.

Trivia

  • Concept and model by CatboyNathann/PlagaeDoctor and Senior_Puertasaurus on the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. The Polymonstrum was inspired by mantis shrimp, squids, and octopi. Polymonstrum's name possibly means multiple-monster, because poly means multiple and monstrum means monster in Latin. On the concept art, Polymonstrum's arms are different from the one in game. Originally intended to be a glass cannon creature with last minute changes to stats before release. Polymonstrum's second color palette is based off of mantis shrimp and thus has nearly the entire rainbow.
  • Redesign concept by CatasticalCalamity. Redesign inspired by bullseye pistol shrimp, lobsters, mantis shrimp, nautilus, and its pre-redesign.
  • Redesign modeled by Erythia.
  • Redesign animated by Mukudori.
  • The Polymonstrum is among the uncommon creature group who attack with their arms instead of biting. Other creatures with this trait include Ani, Arachyu, Buff Eulopii, Jeff, Konomushi, Qurugosk, and Therokis.
  • Most of the Polymonstrum's calls are edited versions of the Chrysos' calls.
