Appearance

Vetemortem is a four-eyed quadrupedal creature with a jackal head, reminiscent of the Egyptian god Anubis. Golden blades and draping decorations line its lower jaw and other parts of its body, including its chest, belly, and tail. Its neck, back, and tail ridge are covered with armor plating. Its body is covered with small, golden markings. Vetemortem's tail tip forms the opening of its mouth, which is lined with several sharp teeth and has a curve that resembles that of a crook, a symbol in ancient Egyptian culture. The tail mouth cannot be used to attack, but it can be used for aggressive animations.

Vetemortem has no gender dimorphism.

Abilities

Cause Fear
Cause Fear is an active ability and Recode's equivalent of Fear. It gives all creatures around the user 10 stacks (30 seconds) of Scared Status effect, and has a cooldown of 120 seconds (2 minutes).
Cursed Sigil (4)
Cursed Sigil is an active ability that offensively inflicts the Bad Omen status on anyone in a 100 stud radius centered on the user. It has an 85 second cooldown after use.
Hunters Curse
Hunters Curse is an active ability that costs half of total health to use but grants 10 stacks (30 seconds) of the Hunters Curse status, which increases damage by 100%. It has a 120 second cooldown.
Bleed Attack (3.5)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (0.50)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Poison (0.35)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Disease Attack (4)
Disease Attack is a passive ability where the user inflicts a specific amount of Disease status on any creature it bites. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Raider
Raider is a passive ability that allows users to enter and exit burrows, but not create them.

Behavior

  • Vetemortem hunt alone rather than packs, unless they are a pair. They are very observant and distant from crowds of larger creatures. Instead, they stick to the lost and lesser opponents, which is a patient yet tedious process.
  • Vetemortem are very picky regarding their young. As caring as they could be, the mother and father will only pick one pup who's proven to be the strongest of the litter- to nurture the most. This is why there aren't many. It's rare to see a family or even one Vetemortem wandering around.
  • The Vetemortem fight only when they need to. They rely on their tails to be a flash of intimidation. With fake teeth - made with the same material as their nails - rimmed along it to give a large, carnivorous appearance. If that proves to be unsuccessful, they'll use their sharp incisors that can pierce through any scaled armor or tough hide, while their front claws grip like talons. Hopefully, it would be enough to keep predators away.

Trivia

  • Concept by Alphacalls on the CoS Discord. The Vetemortem's claws and size were inspired by Thanator from Pandora, as well as having main inspiration from Anubis. The name "Vetemortem" may be derived from the Latin words "veteris" and "mortem", meaning "old/ancient" and "dead/death" respectively.
  • Its initial model was released alongside Venatrox and Kendyll's first remodel.
  • Redesign concept by Undeary.
  • Redesign modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • Redesign rigged by ThunderBoo666.
  • Redesign animated by Minisode1_BlueHour.
  • The Vetemortem was the second creature to receive the Sand Breath ability, the first being Kaluaka/Vin'rou.
