Appearance

The Coniferon is a quadrupedal, long-necked creature. It has a short tail that, along with its neck, is adorned with greenery similar to that of an evergreen tree. Its stomach and legs seem to replicate wood, with brown colors and swirled patterns. It has a clump of fur or leaves/needles on each foot. Its head is similar to that of a bird's, bearing an ornamental golden crest consisting of two horn-like structures with floating crystals at their tops, along with a golden ribbon found on either side of its head. Two of the same ribbons can be found on its tail. On each of its legs, it has a "frill" similar to the other greenery covering the majority of its body.

**Males**: Males have small orange crests on their legs and shoulders.

Abilities

Grab
Grab is an active ability that allows the user to pick up a lower-tiered creature. Grabbed creatures cannot escape for 5 seconds. After that, the grabbed creature can struggle by pressing any button and will be released from the grab. The user can ungrab at any moment by pressing the same button used to grab. A creature darting from outside water will grab any creature it finds automatically.
Healing Hunter (160)
Healing Hunter is a toggleable active ability that allows the user to deal melee hits that replenish the target's HP when hitting. This ability also allows the healer to toggle between melee heal mode and regular attack mode, where the healer's bites deal melee damage instead. It also prevents bleed and poison-booster plushies from giving extra offensive bleed or poison when hitting under healing mode. If a creature with this ability is on healing mode, they are surrounded by a pink hollow sphere with pink cross particles.
Block Bleed (0.6)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Frostbite (0.4)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Block Poison (0.3)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Broodwatcher
Broodwatcher is a passive ability that allows users to assist in the gestation of other players' eggs. It applies one stack of Gestation to nearby creatures, which increases other creatures' egg gestation speed by 2.5%. The total buff any nesting species can receive is 5%, so only two Broodwatchers can be effective at any one time. Additionally, when sitting near a nest, the Broodwatcher gains 5 Defensive, which starts to decrease if they move.
Defensive Bleed (3)
Defensive Bleed is a passive ability where the user defensively inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on their attacker upon being bitten.
Frosty
Frosty is a passive ability that causes the user to receive +25% stamina regeneration, +25% health regeneration, -25% thirst depletion, and -25% hunger depletion during Winter and Famine. Additionally, it prevents getting hypothermia from blizzards.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.

Behavior

  • Coniferons smell fresh like actual pine trees.
  • The green "feathers" on Coniferon are actually leaves, which they use to photosynthesize with.
  • Their ribbon-like appendages can be used as "hands".
  • Coniferons absolutely love the company of other creatures, especially smaller ones. They interact with them very playfully and even guide them to unseen parts of the tundra.
  • During the night, it is unknown why they are so extremely interested in the stars: a theory could be that they were once spirits among the stars that descended onto the pine trees in the tundra.
  • They prefer peace, stopping any chaos in their territory by interfering, stepping right in between the commotion.
  • If any visitor passes their territory, Coniferons will gift them berries or pinecones as a sign of peace while jingling the bells on their necks excitedly. The ribbons on Coniferon represent "presents", as it uses these ribbons to give "gifts" (berries and healing) to others.
  • If they are tired, Coniferon can absorb water from their feet instead of using their mouth, although this takes longer.

Trivia

  • Concept by Kyzenith in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by "Pine trees, firs, Christmas trees, and the North Star". Part of its name may derive from the word "conifer".
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • Animated by Mukudori.
  • The Coniferon has light green blood. Due to this, when killed, the Coniferon drops a light green carcass in Legacy. This is an actual color in some Earth creatures: both from those that use chlorocruorin, a green oxygen carrier that replaces hemoglobin in some invertebrates' blood and in some vertebrates (like some green-blooded lizards) that have adapted to carry lethal amounts of biliverdin in their blood, which is a toxic byproduct of heme catabolism whose only good side is that it has antimutagenic properties. It is possibly green just because of the inspiration of this creature, meaning the blood could be a sap, which is more fitting for the Coniferon.
  • Coniferon is the very first photovore to receive the ambush ability. Also, before its abilities changed in Recode, it was the first photovore to receive an Elemental Breath ability in Legacy.
  • It is the first Christmas Event creature to be an HP healer and the second overall Christmas Event healer if taking into account that Norskogg had Pack Healer ability during the first weeks of its release.
  • Many people refer to it as "pine llama" or "pine alpaca".
