Appearance

The Volnoirve is a quadruped that has similar features to a nian (Chinese New Year lion) or qilin with the body of a pig/boar, with some neural-spine-sail-like crest covering its back, with its tail imitating part of the spine sail. It has smoke particles coming from its mouth and ash/dust on its back. Its head additionally bears two pairs of long, curved teeth sticking out from the rest of teeth like tusks, and two small pieces of armor plate between its lower and mid eyes. It may also resemble an Aztec lion due to the form in its head.

Abilities

Cause Fear

Cause Fear is an active ability and Recode's equivalent of Fear. It gives all creatures around the user 10 stacks (30 seconds) of Scared Status effect, and has a cooldown of 120 seconds (2 minutes).

Spite (0.30)

Spite is an active ability that increases a user's next attack damage based on its power meter, which gradually fills once the ability is triggered and then drains to 0 if no creature is attacked by the user during this time. It also has a customizable percentage (%) of the creature's damage (the % listed is the max of said creature's Spite power). Alongside raw damage, the user inflicts double ailments on their targets. The ability has a 20-second cooldown that starts upon activation.

Unbridled Rage

Unbridled Rage is an active ability that consumes half of a user's stamina upon being activated and grants 10 stacks (30 seconds) of the Unbridled Rage Status. It has a 120 second cooldown.

Block Bleed (0.35)

Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.

Block Burn (0.85)

Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.

Burn Attack is an ability that offensively deals burn when biting. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Volcanic

Volcanic is a passive ability that grants users the ability to walk in lava without getting hurt or suffering status debuffs. During Famine and Drought, it additionally grants a 50% health regeneration boost and 25% thirst and hunger rate reduction. Volcanic does not protect a creature from Shadow Isle's corrupted lava.

Behavior

Volnoirve love to chew on bones.
Volnoirve are fiercely loyal to protecting their object of choice, rarely that object is a living creature.
Volnoirve shed their tusks.
Volnoirve hibernate during the cold months.

Lore (non-canon)

Volnoirve are able to control the concentration of heat within their body, often being very hot to the touch but taking care not to burn the ground beneath them. Their ashy aura is the result of shedding and burning off excess weight.
When Volnoirve hibernate during the cold months, their body begins to harden, and fire seeps through the cracks; compare to hardened lava.
Individuals whose flame appears to be going out are avoided or shunned, they are seen as a bad omen once their fire goes out.
Consuming large amounts of vegetation will turn them and their fire a yellow-ish hue, although this is only done so if food is scarce.

Trivia

Concept by TyrantDinosaur889/Thundernova. Inspired by foo dogs, Cerberus/hellhound theme, Kylo Ren's lightsaber, and billowing smoke.
It originally rivaled the size of the Hygos. A few weeks after its release it was made smaller.
The Volnoirve once had the most health out of any carnivore in the game, but it was then beaten by the Iztajuatl.
