Diablo Immortal: Elder Rifts

Elder Rifts are a core mechanic of Diablo Immortal. They’re very similar to the rifts that were previously used in Diablo 3, and the goal is to empower your character via the process of killing enemies.

Diablo Immortal: Elder Rifts Guide

The easiest explanation of Elder Rifts is that they are essentially randomized dungeons that can be completed in a short period of time (around 3-5 minutes on average).

They’re a very good way to progress your character’s development by obtaining Legendary gems, gear and gaining character experience.

Each rift is completely randomized, which means that you won’t follow one single pattern throughout the zone.

How to Enter the Elder Rifts?

Elder Rifts are unlocked after completing a primary questline in the game. You’ll reach a point where you’ll be granted access to the Elder Rifts. The first one will act as a tutorial, where you can learn about the philosophy of Elder Rifts and how they work. The real challenge, however, will come from the full ones.

Elder Rift Questline

There are a couple of steps that you need to complete after you make some progress throughout the game. The first one is that you have to have an encounter with Lethes, which should be done after the Mad King’s Breach dungeon has been completed from your side.

Your next destination should be Westmarch. There, you’ll complete two quests: Braving the Rift and Legends of Eld.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll be introduced to your first Elder Rift, which will serve you as a tutorial for this game mode. Once all of these steps are finished, you can access the Elder Rift Entrance in Westmarch whenever you want.

Elder Rifts Rewards

Elder Rifts are a fun way to spend some time in Diablo Immortal, but fun isn’t the only reason to enter them of course. Rewards are also important, and when it comes to Elder Rifts, they are certainly worth your time.

Elder Rifts are considered to be the primary way to earn a Legendary Gem in the game. This is achieved by either applying a Crest to the rift or using the Fading Embers that drop from there to buy a Legendary Gem at the Fading Ember Merchant in Westmarch.

Elder rifts are also a great way to farm Rune.

You will also be eligible to earn a modest amount of experience and a bunch of loot while completing them.

Empowering Elder Rifts: Crests

When talking about rewards, there’s one important feature of the Elder Rift that needs to be mentioned: Empowering. Before starting a rift you’ll have the choice to empower it with a Crest.

There are two types of crests in the game: Rare, and Legendary.

Using them will enable the dungeon to drop more loot and also a chance at a Legendary Gem. However, only the player will have the chance for a legendary gem to drop. You’ll be able to earn more Fading Embers when using crests, and all party members will receive these.

Empowering a rift will also add special Harmful or Beneficial affixes to it, depending on how many crests are used.

How to Successfully Complete Elder Rifts

Elder Rifts are all about slaughtering as many enemies as possible, as quickly as possible. They’re not really that hard, as all mobs wills scale to your character in almost every way.

Killing monsters in the zone will allow the progress meter to fill, and once it’s filled completely, a Rift Guardian will appear in front of you.

The Rift Guardian is the final boss you have to defeat in order to complete the Elder Rifts. However, you don’t have an infinite amount of time to complete this task, and bonus rewards will be available for taking if you manage to kill the Guardian before time runs out. This is when the dungeon is completed on a successful matter!

Tips and Tricks

  • One simple strategy is to just group up with other players. Not only will this make the run faster, but it means if a player has used a Crest, you’ll get a share of the Fading Embers.
  • If you’re using a group, have everyone split up and go their own way. This will fill up the bar the fastest, assuming there are no slackers or weaker players.
  • Always go straight for Elite Packs. They drop orbs that will increase the progress bar faster.
  • Use a build that will enhance your speed and focus on AOE skills. This will enable you a much faster clearance of mobs.
  • Using a Crest is also a very good tactic because the modifiers will bring huge benefits to everyone involved in your group.

Conclusion

We hope that this guide has provided a decent amount of information for Elder Rifts in Diablo Immortal. Hopefully, you now possess a little more knowledge about the game and can confidently enter as many rifts as you want without worrying about how they work.
