Appearance

The Hyboria is a quadrupedal, sauropod-like creature with a long neck and tail and some artificial-looking plate features throughout its body, more prominently on its neck, legs, shoulder, and back. Square-shaped spikes extend from those plates on its neck and tail, and a nicked spiral shape pattern can be found on the plates at its shoulders and legs. Flowery fur-like spikes adorn its head, neck, shoulders, legs, thighs, and the tip of its tail. Two horns extend from the top of its head and end past the Hyboria's mouth.

Abilities

Fortify
Fortify is an active ability with a 90-second cooldown that wipes almost all status effects deemed as negative, excluding thirst, hunger, plushie-derived effects, and weather effects. It will also wipe beneficial status effects if they contain at least one debuff. It grants a short immunity to all status effects gained after being activated, and increases weight by 5% for a short period according to the stack number (3, in this case).
Block Bleed (1.00)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (0.25)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Injury (1.00)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Necropoison (0.40)
Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
Block Poison (0.25)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Charge (Crush)
Charge is a passive ability that gradually fills an orange "Charge" bar (unique to creatures with this ability) while running. Once completely full, clicking (Lmb on PC or on Mobile or RT on Xbox) will apply special effects on a creature the user is hitting. If the bar is not full, charge effects may be reduced or non-existent. Current Charge types:
Healing Step (3)
Healing Step is a passive ability that activates when the user's health drops to 65% or less. The user leaves a healing trail that restores a customizable % of max health to both the user and any recipients who step in it. This ability only affects the user and their packmates, and the trail is visible only to them. Each trail segment lasts for 8 seconds, with a maximum of 13 segments active at a time.
Unbreakable
Unbreakable is a passive ability that allows the user to be immune to Bleed and Injury.
Will To Live
Will To Live is a passive ability that allows the user to sprint without spending stamina. However, if stamina is depleted and the creature attempts to sprint, it will deal 3% of health every 3 seconds.

Behavior

  • Hyboria are large stone machines made from an unknown race, being gentle giants made of stone and flowers. They’re built to spread large quantities of seeds across dying lands, dropping seeds from their horns and use something similar to magic to make them grow. The Hyboria carry various trees and plants native to an ecosystem.
  • Hyboria are surprisingly light despite being completely made of rock.
  • The horns and head of a Hyboria are hollow in order to carry seeds. "No thoughts, head empty <3" (Quoted by Xhosa).
  • Hyboria can reach speeds up to 45 MPH and can run for hours before needing a break to sit down and charge.
  • Hyboria are often oblivious to the creatures around them, they're programmed to just plant and grow but sometimes they stop directly over creatures to provide shade or shelter. Despite being programmed to ignore, they somehow avoid or step over creatures in their paths. This is mostly due to their size and long legs though.
  • Hyboria start in large, tightly packed groups and slowly fan out to cover more ground, coming back around in large diamond-like shapes to meet in the middle.
  • During the day, Hyboria are active and move around constantly, and once the sun sets below the horizon they slow down and stop in place, still standing, waiting for the sun to rise again.
  • Hyboria can be found everywhere, even in the desert around oasis.
  • Being so large and made of stone, they aren't a target for predators and often have trails of both herbivores and carnivores behind them. The herbivores eat the magically grown plants, and the carnivores stalk the herbivores.

Trivia

  • Concept by Xhosa_Onkai in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord. Inspired by cherry blossoms, stone pillars, gold, giraffes, and the Tallneck from Horizon: Zero Dawn.
  • Hyboria has pink blood. Due to this, it drops a pink carcass in Legacy after dying. While in real life purple-violet blood exists due to hemerythrin — a respiratory pigment of a purplish/violet color once oxygenated, which replaces hemoglobin in several invertebrates — this specific shade of pink is not seen.
  • Hyboria had the highest price in the event shop during part 1 of 2024 Valentines Event.
