Tips & Tricks
Getting Started: Your First Garden
Garden Horizons drops you into an empty plot with one instruction: go buy your first carrot seed. There are six garden plots to choose from, each with a slightly different layout and location on the map. Pick whichever you like — Plot 3 happens to be the closest to the town center if you prefer walking over teleporting.
Two ways to reach Bill's Seeds Shop: click the Seed button at the top of the screen to teleport, or walk there manually. For your first time, walk. The map is worth taking in.
If your device struggles with performance, open the settings gear in the top-left corner and enable Low Detail Mode. This strips out background trees and decorations, making the game run smoother on older phones and computers.
No Stealing, No Gifting
Unlike Grow a Garden, there is no stealing in Garden Horizons. No player can take your plants, fruits, or items — ever. You can play on public servers without worrying about private servers or protecting your garden.
Gifting is also disabled. You cannot hand items to other players, and they cannot give anything to you. No begging, no scams.
How to Plant, Grow & Sell
The core loop is simple: buy seeds → plant them → wait → harvest → sell.
- Buy seeds from Bill's Seeds Shop (restocks every 5 minutes)
- Plant them anywhere in your garden
- Wait for the plant to grow — growth time scales with rarity
- Harvest the fruit once it appears
- Sell to Steve at the sale shop
Steve has three options: check the value of a held item ("How much is this worth?"), sell individually, or sell your entire inventory at once.
Ripening: The Most Important Mechanic
Every fruit starts at Unripe (1.0x multiplier) and progresses through two more stages over time:
- Unripe — 1.0x to 1.9x (just spawned)
- Ripened — 2.0x to 2.9x (partially matured)
- Lush — 3.0x (fully matured, maximum)
The time it takes to ripen is based on how long the plant takes to grow:
- Unripe → Ripened: 2.4× the plant's base growth time
- Ripened → Lush: 7.2× the plant's base growth time
Plants and fruits grow while you're offline, but ripeness does NOT advance offline. You must be in-game for the Lush timer to tick. This is the main reason to stay logged in with expensive plants growing.
The Sell Price Formula
The final sell price of any crop is:
Final Price = Base Sell × Variant Total × Mutation Total × (Weight ÷ Avg Weight)²
There are two categories of modifiers, and they work differently.
Variants (Add Together)
- Growth stages: Lush (3.0x), Ripened (2.0x–2.9x), Unripe (1.0x–1.9x)
- Silver (+2.0x) — adds to the growth stage
- Gold (+5.0x) — adds to the growth stage
Mutations (Add Together)
Soaked (1.2x), Foggy (1.25x), Chilled (1.5x), Flooded (1.75x), Snowy (2.0x), Tidal (2.0x), Sandy (2.5x), Frostbit (3.5x), Mossy (3.5x), Shocked (4.5x), Muddy (5.0x), Starstruck (6.5x), Nova (6.5x), Galactic (TBA), Electric (TBA).
Admin mutations: Meteoric (10.0x), Salad (20.0x), Banned (20.0x) — extremely rare, applied by admins.
Mutation combos: Frostbit = Soaked + Snowy, Mossy = Foggy + Chilled, Muddy = Sandy + Flooded.
Weight (Squared)
Weight has a squared effect on sell price. A crop at 2× its average weight sells for 4× more from weight alone. The in-game weight display rounds to two decimals, so the exact sell price can vary slightly.
How the Math Works
All mutations on a plant are added together. All variants are added together. Then the mutation total is multiplied by the variant total, then by the weight factor.
A plant with Shocked (4.5) + Starstruck (6.5) at Lush (3.0) at average weight: mutations add to 11.0, variant is 3.0. Base × 3.0 × 11.0 = 33x.
If that same plant also had Gold, the variants become Gold (5.0) + Lush (3.0) = 8.0. Then Base × 8.0 × 11.0 = 88x. This is why you always wait for Lush.
How Weather & Mutations Spread
Weather events are tied to the 5-minute seed restock timer. When Bill's shop restocks, the weather changes. Every weather event lasts at least 5 minutes, giving mutations time to spread across your garden.
Each individual fruit has its own independent timer for acquiring mutations. Having a full garden of 300 plants does NOT reduce any single plant's chance of mutating. Fill your garden — you are not missing out on mutations.
You cannot game the system by planting a single cabbage to "focus" all mutations onto it. Every fruit rolls independently.
Best Shop Plants to Buy
Single-Harvest (Best to Worst)
All values at Lush (3.0x), average weight, no mutations:
| Plant | Seed | Sell (Lush) | Profit | ROI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carrot | $20 | $90 | $70 | 350% |
| Onion | $200 | $660 | $460 | 230% |
| Beetroot | $2,500 | $6,000 | $3,500 | 140% |
| Wheat | $12,000 | $21,600 | $9,600 | 80% |
| Cabbage | $150,000 | $180,000 | $30,000 | 20% |
Cabbage is a trap — at 20% ROI, you'd make 7× more profit spending that $150K on Beetroots instead. Wheat at $12K is the best high-budget single-harvest plant. Only buy Cabbage if you get a Gold variant ($330K profit at Lush Gold).
Multi-Harvest (by Breakeven Speed)
| Plant | Seed | Per Fruit | Breakeven |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corn | $100 | $45 | 3 harvests |
| Apple | $7,000 | $810 | 9 harvests |
| Rose | $10,000 | $960 | 11 harvests |
| Banana | $30,000 | $2,250 | 14 harvests |
| Cherry | $1,000,000 | $24,000 | 42 harvests |
Avoid Tomato — $4,000 seed but only $180/fruit, taking 23 harvests to break even. Apple is the best value — $7,000 seed, $810/fruit, breaks even in 9 harvests and scales well with mutations.
Buying Strategy
- Buy every seed you can easily afford — even low-value seeds are useful for completing quests and unlocking entries in the Flora Book.
- Progression path: Carrot flips → Beetroot flips → Wheat flips → Cherry/Potato multi-harvest → Lush Gold + mutations endgame.
- Early game: Buy single-harvest seeds every restock cycle. Sell at Lush. Use profits to climb to more expensive seeds.
- Mid game: Transition to multi-harvest plants like Apple once you can afford the $7,000 seed. After 9 harvests, it's pure profit forever.
Gear & Tools Quick Reference
- Watering Can ($5,000) — Speeds up growth. Stack water 3 times for max effect. Blue circles on the ground show the active duration.
- Sprinklers ($15k–$100k) — Passive boost to growth speed AND fruit size. Super Sprinkler has massive range.
- Harvest Bell ($35,000) — AoE harvest. Picks all fruit around you in one go.
- Favorite Tool ($80,000) — Locks plants to prevent accidental harvest. Gold star only visible while holding the tool. Sold in packs of 2.
- Shovel — Removes plants from your garden.
Favoriting Inventory Items
Right-click any item in your inventory to favorite it. Favorited items glow yellow with a star icon and will not be sold when you use Steve's "Sell Everything" option. Always favorite crops you want to keep before bulk selling.
Seed Packs
Two types of seed packs exist:
- Gardener Seed Pack — earned from daily quests. Contains common to epic seeds (Orange, Birch, Bell Pepper, Dandelion, etc.)
- Dawn Seed Pack — earned from weekly quests only. Contains rarer seeds including the Legendary Dawn Blossom (~4% chance), which takes 3 hours to grow
You can open up to 3 seed packs at once. Legendary drops play a special animation. Both pack types can also be purchased with Robux.
Free Money: Seed Pack Plants
Seed pack plants cost nothing — every sell is pure profit. Best picks at Lush (3.0x):
- Dawnblossom — $36,000 per fruit. Best free plant in the game.
- Olive — $30,000 per fruit.
- Emberwood — $6,600 per fruit.
- Orange — $5,400 per fruit.
Quest Board
Located in the town center near the water fountain.
- Daily quests reward Shillings and Gardener Seed Packs. They reset every 24 hours and can be manually refreshed for 100,000 Shillings — a late-game option for farming extra seed packs.
- Weekly quests reward Dawn Seed Packs and cannot be reset. These are your only free source of Dawn packs.
Floral Book & Leaderboards
Open the Floral Book from the left side of the screen. The Plants tab shows base sell prices for every crop you've discovered. Filter by rarity, alphabetical order, or discovered/undiscovered using the filter button.
The Stats tab has a global leaderboard tracking total money, lifetime earnings, playtime, harvests, shoveled plants, and planted seeds. Compete with friends to climb the rankings.
Navigation & Exploration
- Teleport by clicking Seed Shop, Sale Shop, or Garden buttons at the top of the screen
- The entire map is fully explorable — every tree, rock, and beach is climbable
- The in-game currency is called Shillings — hover the balance display to see your exact amount
- Plot selection — 6 plots available; Plot 3 is closest to town
Other Quick Tips
- Always wait for Lush — selling at Unripe (~1.5x) instead of Lush (3.0x) cuts your income in half. Patience doubles your money.
- Weight matters a lot — weight is squared in the formula. Heavy crops are worth far more than they look.
- Low Detail Mode (settings) removes background trees for better performance on older devices
- Grow All costs 299 Robux — not recommended since plants already grow offline
- Skip Tutorial — red button in the bottom-right corner during the tutorial sequence
- Huge plants — small random chance for any plant to grow into an oversized version
- Benches are sittable. The center of the water fountain is dangerous. You have been warned.
- Growth timers are visible when you hover or tap a growing plant
Use the Crop Calculator to calculate exact values for any combination of crop, growth stage, weight, and mutations.
