Appearance

The Golgaroth is a quadrupedal artificial crocodilian creature with a large castle-like structure on its back. The largest of the structure's towers are connected by a bridge, and they all have multiple darkened windows containing blinking eyes. These also appear in similar fashion on the sides of its torso. These torso windows are surrounded by moss, which can also be found hanging on the neck and tail. The Golgaroth's head contains a split jaw, and the side of its neck is covered by thick armor, resembling a shingled roof of some sorts. Running down the neck and the back is a stone wall-like sail similar to that of spinosaurid dinosaurs. On its thick front legs and thinner back legs, the Golgaroth has an almost frilly sets of bricks that spread outwards to the side, as well as blue water-like patterns. Its tail has a similar overall shape to modern day crocodilians, but displayed with a stony texture and stone tablets lined up on top of it, each consecutive stone containing a different letter from the Sonarian Font which, when put together, spell "ruin."

**Males**: Males have some extra dark green moss hanging from the undersides of their necks.

Abilities

Bleed Attack (-2)
Bleed Attack is a passive ability, where the user inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on a creature with every bite, excluding with breath/ranged abilities or reflecting abilities. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Block Bleed (1.00)
Bleed Block/Block Bleed is a percentage based passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting bleed status from melee attacks at minimum. If an attacker deals 5 bleed per hit and the receiver has 60% Block Bleed, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 bleed. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. If a creature's Block Bleed is 100%, then they are immune to Bleed inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. If a creature's Block Bleed is negative, it may indicate an extra vulnerability to the status effect.
Block Burn (0.85)
Burn Block/Block Burn is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting burn status from melee attacks. It is percentage based. For example, if an attacker deals 5 burn per hit and the receiver has 60% block burn, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 burn. If a creature's block burn is 100%, then they are immune to Burn inflicted by melee direct attacks once fully grown. This ability is gained gradually as the creature ages. A negative value may indicate that the creature is vulnerable to burn effects.
Block Frostbite (0.85)
Frostbite Block/Block Frostbite is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting frostbite status from melee attacks at the very least, and every other source at most. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 frostbite per hit and the receiver has 60% block frostbite, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 frostbite.
Block Injury (1.00)
Injury Block/Block Injury is a passive ability that grants the user resistance to getting Injury status from melee attacks at the very least. It is percentage based, e.g. if an attacker deals 5 Injury per hit and the receiver has 60% Injury Block, then the receiver gets only 2 of that 5 Injury.
Block Necropoison (0.75)
Block Necropoison is a resistance against the Necropoison Status that reduces the amount of status absorbed and damage dealt by it when accumulating this status.
Block Poison (0.85)
Block Poison/Poison Block is a passive ability that grants resistance to poison status once they reach max age (100). Like many other block defenses, it works by blocking a percentage of the ailment received. If a creature's Poison Block is 100%, then they are immune to those stats (and will be healed instantly if they are somehow applied) once they reach age 100.
Burn Attack (-1)
Burn Attack is an ability that offensively deals burn when biting. Stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Defensive Bleed (-2)
Defensive Bleed is a passive ability where the user defensively inflicts a specific amount of bleed status on their attacker upon being bitten.
Defensive Burn (-1)
Burn touch/Defensive burn is an ability that deals burn to the opposing creature when being bitten. Stacks with itself.
Defensive Frostbite (-1)
Frostbite touch/Defensive Frostbite is an ability that defensively deals frostbite when bitten.
Defensive Injury (0.5)
Injury touch/Defensive Injury is an ability that defensively deals injury status when bitten.
Defensive Necropoison (-1)
Defensive Necropoison is a passive ability that makes the user deal Necropoison Status to an attacker upon being bitten. It stacks with itself, but does not get worse over time.
Defensive Poison (-1.5)
Defensive Poison/Melee Toxin is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to an attacker upon being attacked. Stacks with itself.
Frostbite Attack (-1)
Frostbite Attack is an ability that offensively deals frostbite when biting. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.
Hunker (80)
Hunker is a passive ability that activates when a user with this ability strafes. While active, hunker reduces the creature's speed by 25%, damage by 50%, and reduces damage taken by a percentage based on what is listed for the creature. For example, a creature with 75 hunker will only receive 25% of damage while the ability is active.
Iron Stomach
Iron Stomach is a passive ability that allows the user to eat rotten meat without getting negative ailments from it--preventing them from getting the Sickly Status.
Keen Observer
Keen Observer is a passive ability that allows the user to see the health, equipped Plushies, Traits, and status effects of nearby creatures with a green HP bar over them. Temporary status buffs are set on green, temporary status debuffs on red, traits now present their correct indicator and plushies are marked with their plushie icon.
Pack Healer
Pack Healer is a pack-oriented passive ability. This passive ability allows the user to boost the HP regen of their fellow packmates.
Poison Attack (-1)
Poison Attack is a passive ability that makes the user deal Poison Status to another creature upon biting them. It stacks with itself. A negative value means that it heals an amount of such status upon biting.

Behavior

  • Golgaroth are defensive and not outwardly aggressive, in fact part of that is because the real creature (called Golgy) is actually quite tiny and wants to stay safe.
  • What other creatures can see is actually a "castle" armor that Golgy builds around itself over time to keep themselves safe, with the eyes peeking out from the castle being part of the true being inside.
  • NOTE: unapplied to in-game mechanics: When a Golgaroth seems to die, that is rarely the case, it's that the castle armor breaks down and the Golgy runs away to start rebuilding again.

Trivia

  • Concept by JaxonBirb in the Creatures of Sonaria Discord.
  • Modeled by JaxonBirb.
  • The Golgaroth's eyes are animated in a way similar to Urzuk's, which allow it to retract its eyes into its body or "blink". Golgaroth is also modeled in a way that allows for the eye to make a traditional "football" eye shape whilst they're retracted into its head, for lack of a better term.
  • The Sonarian text on Golgaroth's tail spells out the word "Ruin". The Golgaroth is the second creature to have Sonarian text located on its body, the first being Owa'Stryrus.
  • Upon release, the Golgaroth was lacking an attack animation. This has since been fixed.
