Vampire Survivors Secret Characters Guide

In addition to the 24 standard characters you can select in Vampire survivors, there are also 9 secret characters you can unlock. Some of these unique characters are entirely too weak and exist to provide a challenge, and some are incredibly strong.

Here is our breakdown of all nine characters and how to unlock them!

Exdash Exiviiq

There are two ways to unlock Exdash. The first is through sheer luck. There is a 1 out of 65535 chance that you unlock Exdash each time you collect a Little Clover pickup item. The Little Clover is already the rarest drop from destroyed light sources, so it will take you quite some time to unlock Exdash in this way.

The second method is a lot simpler. You can unlock Exdash by quickly typing in “x-x1viiq” while in the main menu. If you’ve typed it in successfully, you’ll soon hear a jungle, and Exdash will be unlocked.

Exdash Exiviiq starts with Ebony Wings, a very lacklustre weapon that does potentially get really good if united with Peachone. In addition to this, Exdash has severe drawbacks in their stats. They have a penalty to maximum health, movement speed, damage, area of weapon effects, speed of weapons, duration of weapon effects, and an increased cooldown for all weapons. However, Exdash does have +100% Luck! This means that you might have luck with Exdash by focusing on a build that takes advantage of critical attacks.

All in all, Exdash is not the best character in the game, but can provide a fun challenge for veteran players who have invested a lot of coins in PowerUps.

Toastie

To unlock Toastie, you must first have Exdash unlocked. Then, you are required to defeat the Stalker, Drowner, or Trickster. These are some of the most dangerous enemies in Vampire Survivors, so it may be a while before you can hope to best them. Upon killing them you must immediately press the down arrow key on your keyboard and the Enter key. If you were successful, you’ll hear a jingle, and Toastie will be unlocked.

Toastie is in many ways comparable to Exdash. He starts with the mediocre Peachone and has numerous penalties to their stats. In fact, Toastie starts the game with only 1 single health point. You won’t be able to increase Toastie’s health to any reasonable amount, so focusing on damage and projectiles is your key to winning as always. However, the Laurel weapon might find some use with Toastie, even though it is normally a pretty forgettable weapon.

Another interesting character for players looking for a challenge!

Smith IV

Smith IV is the third ghastly character you can unlock. Here is the procedure to unlocking Smith:

  • 1) Unlock Exdash and Toastie
  • 2) Type “spam” in the menu
  • 3) Type “spam” in the character selection screen
  • 4) Type “spam” in the stage selection screen
  • 5) Type “humbug” once the game begins.

Smith IV has similar penalties to Exdash and Toastie but is a little bit more manageable. They have just a sliver of health more than Toastie, keep Toastie’s movement speed boost, and start with the excellent Vandalier weapon, rather than its mediocre components.

Even though Smith starts the game with a united weapon, they are definitely a challenge and meant for advanced players.

Boon Marrabbio

Boon Marrabbio is unlocked in the following way:

  • 1) Collect 100 Floor Chickens over the course of playing the game.
  • 2) Start a game on the Mad Forest
  • 3) Remove Skull O’Maniac and Pummarola from the stage, either by picking them up or by discarding them.
  • 4) Pies will begin to appear, leading you to a specific part of the map, where a shadowy enemy will appear.
  • 5) Defeating the enemy unlocks Boon Marrabbio, whom you can then purchase for 666 coins.

Marrabbio starts with increased movement speed, health, and damage. They also have a rather hefty penalty to Greed, meaning it will be more difficult to earn coins with them, and they also start with 10% Curse. Finally, Marrabio starts the game with -110% weapon speed. This means that his projectiles will shoot out backwards.

Marrabio has an interesting blend of benefits and drawbacks, and is overall not recommended for a serious run, but they are definitely a viable choice.

Minnah Mannarah

To unlock Minnah, you must first find the Cheese item in the Dairy Plant. To find it, you must first collect the Yellow Sign Relic from the Holy Forbidden. After that, make your way to the Dairy Plant, find the Cheese on your map and make your way there. Upon collecting the Cheese, seven werewolves will spawn and upon killing them, Minnah will be unlocked.

Minnah starts the game with the mediocre Bloody Whip, which can, however, be upgraded into the fantastic Fuwalafuwaloo. Furthermore, Bloody Whip can be made much stronger with the Sarabande of Healing Arcana. Minnah starts with -70% Might, greatly reducing her initial damage output. Her Might, Speed, Duration, Area and Cooldown change every minute, however, making her a bit of a wild card.

Minnah is a fun but risky character and can provide a nice challenge to veteran players.

Leda

Leda is a hidden boss that can be found south of the Gallo Tower. When approaching their location, the screen will begin to gradually darken, and that’s how you know they’re about to spawn. Defeating them unlocks Leda as a playable character.

Leda starts the game with the fantastic Holy Wand. They have a penalty to Greed and movement speed, but a whopping +100% boost to damage, increased Area, Armor, and lower weapon cooldowns.

Leda is very powerful and could be a staple pick for you, if you don’t mind the penalty to gold gain and slower movement.

Peppino

Peppino is unlocked in the following way:

  • 1) Select O’Sole Meeo (unlocked by defeating a total of 3000 Dragon Shrimps)
  • 2) Choose the Il Molise Bonus Stage (unlocked by unlocking Hyper Mode for any normal stage). O’Sole takes no damage from the plants in this area.
  • 3) Heal plants with your Celestial Dusting. Once you heal the plants for a total of 100,000 health, you will hear a jingle and unlock Peppino.

Peppino starts the game with increased defences but -100% movement speed. This means that Peppino is essentially stationary. They start with the Soul Eater, so they can heal up any damage they take, and they will be able to move, ever so slowly, if you can pick up Wings and grab some movement buffs from PowerUps.

Peppino starts the game with increased defences but a -100% penalty to movement speed. This means that Peppino is essentially stationary. They do start with the Soul Eater, so they can heal up any damage they take and enemies that approach Peppino will die in the Garlic aura. You will be able to move, ever so slowly, if you can pick up Wings and grab some movement buffs from PowerUps. It is also highly recommended to grab the Attractorb and the Mad Groove Arcana.

A fun, if a bit frustrating, challenge!

Gains Boros

Gains Boros is unlocked in the Bone Zone Challenge stage. The player must travel North until they find a ring of flowers. Staying in the ring for ten seconds produces a jingle that signifies that Gains Boros has been unlocked.

Gains Boros starts with the Heavenly Sword and gains a +2% to Growth every level indefinitely. This means that it’s very easy to get to level up as Boros and that this character could potentially reach a level no other character can. This directly translates to the opportunity to gain more money than other characters.

Mask of the Red Death

This character is unlocked by killing Death. The easiest way to do so is by making use of the Crimson Shroud and the Infinite Corridor.

  • 1) Collect the Yellow Sign Relic from the Holy Forbidden.
  • 2) Collect the items Metaglio Left, Metaglio Right, Silver Ring and Gold Ring. They were previously hidden but can now be found in any stage.
  • 3) Have a level 7 Clock Lancet, level 9 Silver Ring, level 9 Gold Ring and evolve the Clock Lancet into the Infinite Corridor.
  • 4) Have a level 7 Laurel, level 9 Metaglio Left and level 9 Metaglio Right and evolve the Laurel into the Crimson Shroud.

The combination of these two weapons is enough to kill Death. The Crimson Shroud limits damage taken so that Death’s attacks are not fatal, and the Infinite Corridor freezes Death, delaying his attacks so you can hope to kill him. Of course, you still need a good loadout with a lot of damage to be able to kill them.

Once they have been killed, Mask of the Red Death is unlocked. They start with the Death Spiral and +100% movement speed, the highest in the game, as well as a bonus to damage and health.

Mask of the Red Death takes a lot of work to unlock but is arguably the strongest character in the game.
