How a habitat draws guests
Each species has a draw of 1.4 guests plus 0.017 for every point of its income stat, a number the game never shows that also sets how long its delivery takes. The habitat's happiness tier multiplies that, from x0.65 at Struggling to x1.8 at Perfect, and a repeat species only gets part of it. Happiness comes from planting (favourite plants count double), space, food and the group size: the happiness page has the thresholds. How the server turns guests into money each tick isn't in the game client, so the planner stops at guests.

Does happiness change how many guests come?
Yes, a lot. A Perfect habitat (100% happiness) draws x1.8, a Struggling one (under 50%) only x0.65: almost three times less for the same animals.

Less than a new species. The second habitat of a species draws 60% of the first and every one after that 35%, so a cheap new species usually beats a copy of an expensive one.
