Learn how to make an elevator In Minecraft!

Since minecarts won’t help you much in vertical transportation, that is where elevators come in. How To Make An Elevator In Minecraft
Elevators are extremely handy when it comes to traveling large distances vertically in a short duration. They require materials like glass, a door, kelp, soul sand, magma block, and a water bucket alongside a bit of ingenuity!
Some of the elevators can be quite aesthetically pleasing but it all depends on how you make it since the only limit is your creativity. The elevator method used in this guide is usable in all versions of the game regardless of which platform you are playing on. Without further ado, let’s jump right in and take a look at how to make an elevator in Minecraft.
Gather the Required Materials
First things first, you must gather the required materials before you can go ahead with making an elevator. Some of these items can be found easily while others will require some time and effort. With that said, here are all the items you need to make the elevator:
- Glass
- Water Bucket
- Door
- Kelp
- Soul Sand to help you go up
- Magma Block to help you go down
Also, you should keep in mind that the amount of materials (such as glass) depends on how high you want to take your elevator. If you want to know where you can get each of the mentioned items, worry not because we’ve got you covered.
First up, the glass. You can craft glass by collecting sand blocks – which are extremely common – and putting them in a furnace. Use the sand and any fuel source to craft a glass block. You should craft as many as you need to use.
Secondly, the water bucket can be crafted by using three iron ingots on a crafting table in the shape shown in the image above. After you have your bucket, you can simply jump in the water to fill it up.
For the Soul sand and Magma blocks, you need to head over to the Nether. Create a portal using obsidian and enter the Nether. Both of these blocks are extremely common and can be found all across the Nether so you shouldn’t have a tough time locating them.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can use stone blocks as well but glass makes it looks better and will give you a good view of the scenery when you are going up or down the elevator.
After you have collected all of these materials, it is time to start making your very own elevator.
Create a Foundation
Now that you have your materials, you can start making the base or the foundation of the elevator. Start by placing the glass to make a one-wide enclosure. Just make sure to leave a two-high space in both of the enclosures so that you can walk in and out of the elevator.
Once you have done that, you can go as high as you want the elevator to go; it totally depends on you. Place the door in the two-high space so that the water does not leak outside.
Use Kelp in Water
After you have made the foundation of your elevator, go to the top and add water so that it flows from the top to the bottom. However, you will quickly notice that this method requires each water block to be a source block. However, by simply letting it flow, the water blocks other than the top ones are not source blocks, hence why you cannot go up or down.
Worry not because that’s where kelp comes in. Using kelp in the water will allow each water block to become a source block and solve this issue.
Add Magma and Soul Sand
Now comes the fun part, adding the magma and soul sand at the bottom of the elevator. These blocks will help bring you down or take you up respectively. To do so, simply remove the bottom blocks and replace them with these blocks. Just keep in mind that the magma block will allow you to safely come down while the soul sand block will allow you to go up.
The best part is that you can make the elevator as high as you want without any issues. Both of these blocks are the reason that you won’t drown in the water while going up or down. So, you do not have not to worry about the distance since you won’t drown no matter what.
That is how you can easily make an elevator in Minecraft. While there are other types of elevators as well such as the complex Redstone elevator, they require a lot of knowledge and trial and error. If you want to use fewer resources and save time, use the water elevator to make your life easier.
