Potions & Consumables
Items in Abyss are consumable goods that buff your character, restore oxygen, or fulfill quest requirements. There are three main categories: Potions (temporary stat boosts), Oxygen Pods (instant oxygen restoration), and Geodes (cracked for artifacts). This guide covers every item, its effects, and where to get them.
Potions: All Temporary Buffs
Potions provide temporary stat boosts lasting 15 minutes each. They can be purchased from NPC shops or earned as quest rewards.
| Potion | Rarity | Effect | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
XP Potion |
Rare | +30% earned XP | 15 minutes |
Strength Potion |
Rare | +30% Gun Damage | 15 minutes |
| Speed Potion | Rare | +20% Tube Speed | 15 minutes |
Drop Luck Potion |
Rare | +30% Fish Drop Luck | 15 minutes |
Crimson Shard |
Mythical | +50% Speed, +50% Drop Luck, -15% Strength | 15 minutes |
Void Shard |
Mythical | +50% Strength, +50% XP, -15% Speed | 15 minutes |
Oxygen Shard |
Mythical | +30% Oxygen Capacity | 15 minutes |
Standard Potions (Rare Tier)
The four standard potions are the backbone of any farming session:
- XP Potion (+30% XP) -- Best for power-leveling. Stack with the Crab Race (+5% XP) or Vampire Squid Race (+10% XP) for maximum XP gain.
- Strength Potion (+30% Gun Damage) -- Makes aggressive fish much easier to handle. Especially useful for Whale and Dragonfish fights in Spirit Roots.
- Speed Potion (+20% Tube Speed) -- Lets you cover more ground during timed farming sessions. Good for delivery quests from the Diver.
- Drop Luck Potion (+30% Fish Drop Luck) -- Increases your chance of finding mutated fish. Pop one before farming for quest-specific mutations.
Mythical Shards
The three shards are stronger but come with trade-offs:
- Crimson Shard is the best farming potion. +50% Speed and +50% Drop Luck is massive, and the -15% Strength penalty is manageable if you're farming passive fish.
- Void Shard is the best combat potion. +50% Strength and +50% XP with only -15% Speed. Ideal for fighting aggressive Legendary fish.
- Oxygen Shard provides a flat +30% Oxygen Capacity with no downsides. Useful for long expeditions into deep biomes.

When to Use Oxygen Pods
- Small and Basic Pods are cheap enough to stockpile. Use them liberally in Forgotten Deep and Ocean.
- Advanced Pods ($550) give 100 Oxygen and are the sweet spot for mid-game exploration in Ancient Sands and early Spirit Roots.
- Heavy Pods ($1,800) restore 250 Oxygen and are reserved for deep Spirit Roots runs and Angler Cave, where running out of oxygen means losing a valuable haul.
Many quests reward Oxygen Pods:
- Diver's deliveries frequently reward Small and Basic Pods.
- Victor's quests give Heavy and Advanced Pods as rewards.
- Grumpy Hank's Quest 4 rewards 2 Heavy Oxygen Pods.

Item Farming Strategy
Early Game (Forgotten Deep)
Stock up on Small Oxygen Pods ($125) from Mr. Black. Buy a few Speed Potions ($1,250) before grinding deliveries for the Diver.
Mid Game (Ancient Sands)
Switch to Advanced Oxygen Pods ($550) from Jeff. Grab Drop Luck Potions ($2,500) before mutation hunting for Mr. Black's quests. If you can afford it, the Crimson Shard ($10,000) is the strongest farm-boosting potion.
Late Game (Spirit Roots / Angler Cave)
Buy Heavy Oxygen Pods ($1,800) from Victor for deep runs. XP Potions ($6,500) and Strength Potions ($11,500) from Victor are expensive but powerful. Use them for Whale and Dragonfish encounters.
