WoW Wrath Classic (WotLK) Level 80 Leveling Time

The release of Wrath Classic (WotLK) is nearly upon us! This expansion will unlock the new continent Northrend, as well as an additional 10 character levels to acquire along the way.

The question is, how long does it take to reach level 80 in Wrath Classic (WotLK)?

The answer to that question can be quite skewed, as not only did WotLK make a lot of changes that affect leveling, but there’s also a 50% XP buff currently live on the pre-patch. This can make things a little confusing.

What are the leveling changes in Wrath Classic (WotLK)?

With the release of Wrath, Blizzard decided to make leveling easier across the board. Many of the changes are indirect but certainly make a huge difference to the leveling time required, e.g., using flying mounts at 60.

Leveling Changes

  1. The XP required to level from 60 to 70 was significantly reduced.
  2. Heirlooms were added that grant characters bonus XP. These can be bought by level 80s, and sent to low-level alts on the same account.
  3. Many mobs & quests in the world were made easier.
  4. Characters can now buy mounts sooner, including 60% at level 20, 100% at level 40, and flying mounts at level 60.
  5. Characters can now earn XP from battlegrounds.

How long does it take to reach level 80 in Wrath Classic (WotLK)?

Leveling from 1-80 will take an experienced player around 6 days (144 hours) /played to level to 80 in WotLK Classic. It could be much less, it could be much more.

Casually leveling will likely increase this to around 7 days (168 hours) /played.

There will be many factors involved, including:

  • How contested the leveling zones will be.
  • Which method you choose, (following a paid guide, dungeon grinding, or just casually leveling).
  • Your past leveling experience.
  • Your class.

If an experienced player is also using a speed leveling guide such as RestedXP, the time will likely be reduced to around 5 days (120 hours) /played. This could vary quite a lot, however.

Heirlooms

Wrath introduces 3 items to acquire that increase the XP gain of a character wearing them. The total bonus XP is 25%.

  • Shoulders: +10% XP
  • Chest: +10% XP
  • Ring: +5% XP

While using heirlooms (Chest and Shoulders) to level, an experienced player should be able to take around 4.7 days (115 hours) /played to reach level 80. The ring is from a fishing event and is hard to obtain, so won’t be included.

How long does it take to level from 70 to 80 in Wrath Classic (WotLK)?

Leveling from 70-80 will take most players between 30 and 40 hours to level in WotLK Classic. That’s an average of around 3 to 4 hours per level.

A very experienced player will take around 1 day (24 hours) /played to level to 80 in WotLK Classic. However, this is based on having decent gear and no competition from other players in the zones.

The fastest speedrunners following RestedXP will probably take 20 hours or less.

How long does it take to reach level 70 in Wrath Classic (WotLK)?

Leveling from 1-70 will take an experienced player around 4.5 days (108 hours) /played to level to 70 in WotLK Classic.

If previous leveling runs are taken into account from the pre-patch, this time could be as low as 40 hours if speed leveling.

How long does it take to reach level 70 in WotLK Classic Pre-Patch?

With the XP buff enabled, it will take an experienced player around 3 days (72 hours) /played to level from 1-70 in the pre-patch.

The fastest time to level 1-70 in the pre-patch was 27 hours. This was achieved by a leveling guide maker and twitch streamer known as Tommysalami.

However, there’s 2 things to keep in mind about the run:

  • He switched to a Death Knight at 55, and 55-60 is much faster in the Death Knight starting area and outland.
  • It was done on a fresh server, and once he was ahead of the pack, there was no competition for mobs.

Conclusion

Leveling to 80 in WotLK will be very similar to reaching max level in both WoW Classic, and TBC Classic. With heirlooms and quality of life changes, it will be much faster and easier, however.
