Best Contract Expiry Signings FIFA 23 Second Season (2024)

This list has been updated to reflect the February 7, 2023 FIFA career mode update.

Here are the top players to sign that are out of contract during the second season in 2024.

11

Christopher Nkunku (86 OVR / 89 POT)

Christopher Nkunku is a French professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. He was born in Evry, France, and began his football career in the youth academy of Paris Saint-Germain. Nkunku made his professional debut for PSG in 2016 and quickly established himself as a talented and creative midfielder, known for his passing ability and eye for goal. He spent several seasons with the Parisian club, winning several league titles and reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League before moving to RB Leipzig in 2019. Since joining the German club, Nkunku has continued to impress with his technical ability, versatility, and energy in the center of the pitch.

The attacking midfielder signed new terms with the club soon after an incredible 2021/22 season, during which he made 34 league appearances, scored 20 goals, and had 13 assists. This performance earned him the Bundesliga Player of the Season Award. He also led Leipzig to a successful DFB Cup campaign and became a full member of the France national team.

The 24-year-old Player left his boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain and joined Leipzig in July 2019. He has participated in 147 competitive matches for the team so far, scoring 53 goals as a part of 89 direct goal involvements. He recently proved influential in the final third with his eye for a ball and deadly instinct in front of the goal.

His outstanding form made him a hot transfer target for numerous prominent European teams, with his future unclear before his contract renewal.

10

Parejo (86 OVR / 86 POT)

Dani Parejo, the right-footed midfielder, completed his transfer from Valencia to Villareal in August 2020 to end his legendary 9-year spell at his former team. In 2019, he led Valencia as the team captain to their first trophy in 11 years, defeating a strong Barcelona team in an emotional Copa Del Ray triumph.

Leaving Valencia as a Club Legend, Parejo joined Villarreal CF on a free transfer and a four-year contract on 12 August 2020 —a move that infuriated Valencia’s fans. He would go on to win the Europa League in his first season at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The 33-year-old Spanish central midfielder has his contract with Villareal expiring in June 2024.

Considering the Player’s age, his form will most likely suffer a setback. Regardless, having an 86 potential rating, he will be a great free agent signing in the second season of FIFA 23. Well, time will tell if he will (or will not) sign a new contract with Villareal.

9

Thiago Alcântara (86 OVR / 86 POT)

More than anything else, the early midfield struggles for Liverpool in the 2022/23 season have shown that Thiago Alcântara is a great asset to Jürgen Klopp’s team than initially assumed. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona star’s comeback has added calmness to the center of the field. His easy decision-making, defensive work, and passing abilities show a quality gap compared to the team’s other choices.

The 31-year-old professional footballer, currently a center midfielder for Premier League side Liverpool and the Spain national team, has won 16 trophies, including the Bundesliga seven times in a row and a continental treble in the course of his spell at Bayern Munich. With only one year remaining on his Bayern Munich contract, Liverpool confirmed in September 2020 that they had signed Thiago to a four-year deal.

The contract of the Player, who, despite his remarkable talent, hasn’t been able to avoid injury issues, will end during the second season of FIFA 23’s career mode in 2024.

8

Hugo Lloris (85 OVR / 85 POT)

Hugo Lloris, the captain of Tottenham, extended his contract by two years in January 2022 to keep him with the team through 2024. After moving from Lyon to Tottenham in August 2012, the French goalkeeper holds the record for the club’s most Premier League appearances. Hugo, 35, has recorded over 400 games since joining from his previous club. Excelling in his role as the captain of club and country, he captained France to the World Cup and UEFA Nations League glory.

The 12-year spell of the first Player to record 100 Premier League shutouts for Tottenham may end in June 2024 when his current contract expires. He’d be 37 years old by then, and getting another contract renewal might be tough since he would be way past his prime. Rated as one of the best GKs in FIFA 23, he will still make a good free agent signing for your team, regardless.

7

Marco Verratti (87 OVR / 87 POT)

Verratti moved to PSG in 2012 from the Italian club Pescara and has remained a mainstay despite sustaining multiple injuries during that time. Marco Verratti, who amassed numerous titles with PSG, has now also won the European championship, having been instrumental in Italy’s victory at Euro 2020.

His new contract shows that he is committed to PSG for the long term and is expected to keep him in Paris until he is 31. There may be shared interest in this issue between the two parties because the Italian central midfielder has previously spoken candidly about the possibility of retiring at PSG. He might, however, become a free agent in the second season of FIFA 23’s career mode if things go the other way around.

Considering all the high-profile contracts that PSG will have to manage in the second season, Verratti’s real-life wage demands might be the primary factor in determining whether or not he can become a free agent signing on FIFA. With an 87 overall rating, the Italian still has much to offer in any FIFA 23 team.

6

Thomas Müller (86 OVR / 86 POT)

The 32-year-old has spent his whole career with Bayern, joining the team at 10 and playing for the team at every age level before going pro in 2008. Muller earned his 11th Bundesliga winners medal, the most of any player in German football history, after Julian Nagelsmann’s team won the league for the remarkable 10th consecutive season in the 21/22 season.

Muller has an impressive track record at the highest level. He has scored 228 goals in 637 caps for the Bavarian club and 44 goals in 118 appearances for Germany. When the German team won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Muller also accomplished the impossible.

Although it is not yet sure when Müller will retire, it is comforting to know that he might be spending the foreseeable future with his boyhood club. Bayern fans will hope that Müller ends his career where he began it, even though his current contract expires in 2024. Müller will remain a Bayern legend and a Bavarian icon for life.

5

Marquinhos (88 OVR / 90 POT)

Although Marquinhos’ current contract is set to expire in 2024, Paris Saint-Germain isn’t waiting to start talks about a new one. The two sides soon decided on the length of the new contract, as they sought to extend the contract to 2026 or 2027. However, because of how far apart they are financially, the salary issue stands in the way of reaching an agreement.

Since he arrived in 2013, Marquinhos has developed his game, forged relationships with the fans, and taken the reins as captain of the capital club. Marquinhos is living up to his potential as the club captain and proves to be solid at the defense. However, the defender’s time at PSG may end in 2024 if the two parties cannot work out an agreement before his contract expires.

Marquinhos, who has an overall rating of 88 in FIFA 23, is unquestionably one of the top centre backs in the game and will still be in the prime of his career in 2024, when his contract is up, making him a potential free agent signing.

4

Keylor Navas (87 OVR / 87 POT)

Upon moving from Real Madrid to PSG in 2019, the Costa Rican international had a four-year initial contract. Later, Keylor Navas and Paris Saint-Germain reached a deal on a one-year contract extension that will keep him in the French capital through 2024.

Navas, who had three Champions League titles to his name in Madrid, was replaced by Thibaut Courtois, who was signed from Chelsea, forcing him to move to the Les Parisiens team. Keylor Navas briefly succeeded in keeping Gianluigi Donnarumma, the team’s starting goalkeeper, out of the goal. But right now, things aren’t going so well for him.

Navas is a strong GK with an 88 overall rating at the start of FIFA 23, and is capable of starting in any goal. But because he rarely participates in matches, his total rating of 88 will possibly decline by the third season, and he may end up not meeting up with his potential rating.

3

Harry Kane (89 OVR / 89 POT)

Despite speculations that Bayern Munich is interested in signing Harry Kane to a deal, Tottenham is taking their time. The present contract for the England captain expires in 2024. And according to rumors in Germany, Bayern Munich is interested in making him a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona following a wild transfer drama.

The terrific striker, who has yet to win any major silverware, is rumored to be interested in leaving Tottenham Hotspur. According to the explicit agreement, England striker Harry Kane and chairman Daniel Levy reached a consensus that would allow the Player to go in the summer of 2021 if he stayed for another year. All subsequent Kane offers, though, were turned down by Spurs.

Kane will be getting close to 31 years old and over his prime, by the time FIFA 23’s second season arrives. Despite this, his overall rating of 89 shouldn’t have declined significantly. The striker will be one of the best contract expiration signings in 2024 if he refuses to sign a deal, as he is likely to do in real life.

2

Manuel Neuer (90 OVR / 90 POT)

After sustaining a series of metatarsal injuries, Neuer, who is largely considered the best goalkeeper in the sport’s history, has recently returned to his best. In 2011, Neuer moved from Schalke, a Bundesliga rival, to Bayern. He has since played for the club in 483 competitive games, including winning the 2012/13 treble and leading a Bayern squad coached by current Germany manager Hansi Flick to the 2020 sextuple.

2014 World Cup winner and top three FIFA Ballon d’Or nominee Manuel Neuer also holds the record for the most wins and clean sheets in Bundesliga history. Before his contract expires in 2024, the German international hopes to continue competing at the greatest level. Having a 90 overall rating, he would probably be the best free agent signing in the second season of FIFA 23, should he leave at his contract expiry. With a 90 potential rating, the 10-times Bundesliga winner appears to have some juice reserved for his old age.

1

Kylian Mbappé (91 OVR / 95 POT)

Kylian Mbappé is a French professional footballer who plays as a forward for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team. He is widely considered one of the most talented and promising young players in the world and has already achieved a great deal of success in his young career.

Mbappé was born in Paris and began his football career in the youth academy of his local club Bondy. He quickly made a name for himself with his incredible speed, dribbling skills, and finishing ability and was soon signed by French giants Paris Saint-Germain. He made his professional debut for the club in 2016 and has since established himself as one of the top attacking players in Ligue 1, helping PSG win several league titles and reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2021.

Mbappé has also been a key player for the French national team, helping them win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He was named the competition’s Best Young Player and became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since Pelé in 1958. He has since continued to impress on the international stage, scoring goals and providing assists for Les Bleus.

With his incredible speed, dribbling skills, and finishing ability, Kylian Mbappé is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in world football. He has been linked with moves to several top clubs in Europe and is expected to have a long and successful career at the highest level of the sport.
