How to Use Scrolls in Skyrim?

During your adventures in Skyrim, you might have come across various items that are called Scrolls. There are multiple Scrolls across the world of Skyrim that you can find. The best part is that you can use them even if you are not going for a magic build. However, if you are confused about how to use these items, worry not because this guide will show you how to use Scrolls in Skyrim.

How to Use Scrolls in Skyrim?

To use Scrolls in Skyrim, you must first find one and select it from your inventory. Once the Scroll is in your hand, you must press and hold the attack button to start the animation. Only release the attack button when the casting animation ends, or you will have to do this process all over again.

If you want to know whether or not you should use these Scrolls and if they are effective or not, continue reading to find out. Plus, we will list down some powerful Scrolls that every player should use at least once. Without further ado, let’s take a look at how to use Scrolls in Skyrim and are they effective or not.

Should You Use Scrolls

How to Use Scrolls in Skyrim?

You should use Scrolls if you come across them because they do not require any magic skills or Magicka to use. This is a massive advantage as any player can use them regardless of which build you are going for. Plus, they are extremely light in weight, so don’t worry about them taking up a lot of your inventory.

To find Scrolls, you need to explore the world as you can find them lying in various cabins or dungeons. Plus, you can even purchase them from certain spell merchants as well. If you do find a Scroll that you know for certain that you will never use, sell it to a merchant for a decent amount of gold.

The major downside to using Scrolls is that the majority of them can only be used once before being consumed and disappearing forever. This might be quite the downside if you are not a magic user. Since you do not have other spells as a warrior or any other class, you rely on Scrolls for magic damage.

Plus, they require a charging time by pressing down the attack button. Depending on the Scroll, you will need to cast it for anywhere between 5-15 seconds. If you are interrupted before that, the Scroll will not be consumed, and the spell will not be used. You’ll have to cast it all over again. This leaves the player in vulnerable positions as you cannot move or do anything during this state.

Most Scrolls can be used in a single hand, but some require you to hold them in both hands for proper use. Finally, you will not gain any skills by using Scrolls, so just use them for damaging purposes or sell them if you are looking to earn some gold.

Which Scrolls Are Worth Getting?

There are a lot of Scrolls in the game, and all of them have unique effects. Some of them deal damage, while others provide utility to the player by displacing the enemy and allowing you to damage them freely. After using multiple Scrolls, we have noted down some of the best ones that you can use to assist you on your journey.

Starting with a Scroll that deals a good amount of damage, the Scroll of Ice Strom. This spell has a decent range and does a good amount of damage. Plus, you will also slow the enemy by depleting their Stamina as well. Use this to damage and slow the enemy while you use your weapons to finish him off.

The second Scroll that’s worth getting is the Scroll of Chain Lightning. This Scroll has a decent amount of damage, but that’s not the reason why it is good. The main reason why you should use it is to deal with enemies that surround you. As the name suggests, you will cast a lightning spell that will chain to any enemy in a nearby radius.

Finally, the Scroll of Fast Healing is always worth having in your inventory. While you might consider using potions or food to restore your HP, this Scroll will help you quickly heal during an annoying boss fight. Alternatively, you can use the Scroll of Cure Wounds to heal even more HP if it comes down to that.
