Minecraft has a ton of secrets and items that the player must discover on their journey. One such thing is known as the Conduit. If you are new to the game or just recently heard about them, your in luck because this guide will show you what are conduits in Minecraft and how you can make your own!

Conduits are beacons of the sea that give the player a special Conduit Power once they are activated. These powers are a mixture of night vision, Aqua Affinity, and underwater breathing. Plus, they can help you damage underwater mobs as well.

That’s not all, though, if you want to know how to make your very own Conduit, the next section will show you just that. Also, if there are any questions, worry not because we will answer them too below. With that said, let’s dive right in and find out what are Conduits in Minecraft.

Materials Needed to Make a Conduit

Before we talk about how you can make a Conduit, let’s find out what materials are required. Since a Conduit is a rare item, it will naturally require more difficult to obtain materials that will take quite some time to collect. However, we will tell you where you can easily get these materials and continue making your Conduit.

Nautilus Shell

Obtaining the Nautilus Shell is the most difficult part since it is quite a rare item and will take you quite some time to find. There are three main ways in which you can obtain this item relatively easily. Keep in mind that you need to collect 8 Nautilus Shells to make a Conduit.

First of all, you can go underwater and find some Drowned Mobs. They look like zombies but with a more rotten look to them. Plus, they can mostly be only found underwater. Once you have located them, simply start killing them until you get the item. Depending on the version that you are playing, you’ll either have a higher chance to get this item or a lower one. In the Java version, these mobs have a 3% chance to drop the shell while the Bedrock edition is more forgiving and has an 8% chance.

The second method is to have patience and start fishing. Now, keep in mind that fishing can take a long time and there are no guarantee’s that you’ll find the shell but there is always a slight chance. To increase your odds, you can enchant your fishing rod with the Luck of the Sea enchantment and see if you get the shell or not.

Finally, you can interact with the Wandering Trader that spawns near you. These traders are quite common and difficult to miss, so, don’t worry about not seeing them. You can trade with them to see if they have the Nautilus Shell or not. Sometimes, they do not have them but other times they will be willing to trade them. However, if they do have that item in stock, you can only purchase it 5 times before running out of stock.

Heart of the Sea

Now that you have the Nautilus Shell, the second main material you’ll need is the Heart of the Sea. This item cannot be crafted and you can only find them after following a Treasure Map. Throughout the world, you’ll notice various shipwrecks in the ocean.

Explore them and you’ll find a Treasure Map. Not only do the shipwrecks contain the maps but the ocean ruins also have them. Depending on what you come across, you’ll find the maps in there. To make this process easier, you can find a dolphin and feed it either Raw Salmon or Raw Cod. The dolphin will lead you to the nearest ruin or shipwreck.

Following the map allows you to come across the Heart of the Sea. However, it isn’t as easy as it seems to be. Once you have the map, you’ll notice a big X that you have to follow. Keep following it and you will eventually come across the location where you need to dig. Digging will result in you finding the Heart of the Sea. Keep in mind that it is a certainty that you will find this item if you follow the map.

How to Make a Conduit in Minecraft

Now that we’ve talked about what you need to build a Conduit, let’s take a look at how you can make it. Conduits are interesting structures that can be made by using just 16 blocks but if you wish to use their full power, you will want to use 32 blocks.

First up, you’ll want to craft the Conduit. To do that, open the crafting menu and place the 8 Nautilus Shells on the outside while the Heart of the Sea needs to be in the middle. If done correctly, you’ll see a Conduit on the right side of the arrow as you can see in the image above.

After getting the Conduit, make a structure made out of prismarine blocks. These blocks can be collected by harvesting the ocean monuments. Gather at least 16 blocks if you want to make a basic Conduit or you can gather tons of them to be safe and not run out. Also, keep in mind that the Conduit needs to be over a body of water so you can either make it underwater or on the surface next to the water.

Now, place 9 prismarine blocks on the ground in a “plus (+)” shape. Once that is done, add a four-block tower at the end of each base. While you can technically end here since the requirements are met, you can go higher to receive the full effects. For every 7 blocks of prismarine, the Conduits range will increase by 16 blocks.

After you successfully made the tower from each base, connect them at the top. This should take about 5 blocks and it will make a small “+” shape.

Now, connect the middle of the pillars by using three blocks on each side. You will need a total of 12 blocks for this. It should look a little something like this:

After making the complete structure, you can add the Conduit in the center of it. However, you will need to place a temporary block at the bottom to put the Conduit in place. Once that is done, remove the block (ideally dirt block) from beneath and the Conduit will activate. To know if it is working, you’ll notice that it is sucking materials from all directions and has opened up. Plus, you’ll see a Conduit Power symbol on the top right of your screen.

If done correctly, you will gain the power and it lasts for about 13 seconds. However, if you stay within the range of the Conduit, the power will continuously refresh and you will never run out of it.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Conduit block needs to be surrounded by water on all sides. If even one side does not have water, it will not work. Finally, you can use any type of prismarine block (even sea lanterns). Whether you craft them or harvest them from the ocean monuments, that’s up to you.
